Zipcar is a car sharing service that aims to have more members than private car owners in major cities. It allows users to reserve vehicles by the hour or day with gas, insurance, and 180 miles per day included. Zipcar has over a million members worldwide who can access over 11,000 vehicles across the US, Canada, Spain and UK. In Massachusetts specifically, Zipcar has a presence in 14 cities and 50 colleges and universities with over 1,000 vehicles across 792 locations. UMass Lowell has over 200 Zipcar members on campus and is one of three colleges in the state to offer an electric vehicle, with students only needing to be 18 years old to apply.
