Introduce myself & the course
Class introduce themselves
Extras are some fun additional things and a chance for us to take a break from our work and look at some other useful tools. Our class is small which might mean we zip through the work a lot faster. I’ll have to gauge our course speed as we go and we’ll sort it all out as we go. If there are things you’re interested in spending some time on from the extras, or maybe something else, let me know.If you have real-life projects you want to work on in the class, it will be a great opportunity for you to do them.
Recommended FreewareJing Screen captures, 5 minute videos, callouts, etc., SWF format / tied into Camtasia. Used to have Pro version for $15 with MP4 movies, but dropped.uTIPu – FLV filesProblem with these is that FLV/SWF is dying. MP4 is becoming standard.Web-basedscreenr – have to log in (using available accounts) and publish to web to get download. Is an MP4 file. Can delete afterwards. Can get embed codes & shortened links.ScreenToasterRecord MP3 may do webcams, too. Otherwise, MP3 file.Freeware Wink – pretty complete but limited and working knowledge of screencasting products will be helpful

Camtasia records video and audio from computer screens and cameras, and imports media (video and audio) to edit and create video and audio files.Records video that captures action on computer screensRecords audioUses special features to enhance visual information for better comprehensionCallouts, highlights, linksProvides for interactivity with the viewer – quizzes & surveysExports movies for use on computers, portable media players, and on the webCamtasia recently upgraded their product, now version 6. The new version enhances editing and output for a better & faster editing experience and higher quality output options. Also in the upgrade is a change in the hotkeys to simplify editing. Hotkeys are key commands that are menu item equivalents (like Control+X to Cut). Hotkeys can reduce editing time be 30%. A lot of people don’t gravitate towards key commands, but they speed up all computer time in all programs.
You want the free player piece only. Don’t have to buy. The company’s website sometimes buries the free player. Searching the Windows site can be more productive.
