Lead the electrical and instrumentation engineering & design efforts on small to mid-sized
projects (< $15MM). Develop detailed scope of work, specify and procure instrument and
electrical equipment, plan and schedule project discipline activities from detailed design through
start-up and commissioning. Develop phase logic for DCS configuration requirements, produce
interlock matrices from process control parameters and insure scope, schedule, procedure and
budget compliance for the overall success of a project.

This assignment consisted of managing a construction workforce made up of Trade Union
personnel as well as Bayer Material Science, LLC cut-back maintenance and production
employees. I was accountable for providing construction leadership on policy and procedures as
it applies to contracted services, managed capital hard goods and construction-related facilities. I
also scheduled resources and directed the field implementation of capital and major maintenance
projects by administering general as well as specialty contractors as applicable.

Duties included all phases of E&I (Electrical & Instrument) Project Engineering, including
detailed design, funding procurement, specification development, estimating, safety system
design, project planning, contract development, cost control, scheduling, installation, start-up and
commissioning of projects. The majority of projects consisted of complete control system
3. installations and upgrades ranging from stand-alone field mounted controllers to multi-controller,
multi-workstation PLC’s (Allen Bradley PLC-2, PLC-5, Micrologix, SLC’s, etc.) and DCS
systems (Fisher PROVOX and Delta-V), Analytical System installations and start-ups, as well as
Burner Management System installations.
E&I Designer
Matrix Inc. (contract for Bayer Corp.) New Martinsville, WV
April 1988 – February 1995
Responsible for the design and development of electrical and instrumentation (E&I) drawing
packages for numerous projects utilizing Microstation’s Intergraph CAD system. Designed and
assisted with many 480VAC Motor Control Center installations, including variable frequency
drives and soft-start applications. Designed and assisted with the start-up and commissioning of
various automation projects and upgrades, including the migration of controls from panel
mounted instrumentation, pneumatic and stand-alone controllers to distributed control systems.

Electrical Project Engineer

In this position I started as a draftsperson and was quickly promoted to a Project Engineer, where
I became responsible for estimating, designing and engineering various industrial electrical
projects for the coal and material handling industries. The types of projects I managed included
small electrical upgrades within Electrical Power Plants, Coal Preparation Plants, Pumping
Facilities and various Material Handling Facilities.
