2. Experience
Cherokee International
R&D Project Leader Sept 2006 – May 2008
- Responsible for the Hardware and Software development of a new generation of embedded monitoring
for energy applications. No real specification, I had to be innovative
- Development of the energy system regulation on microcontroller
- Development of the monitoring platform on Windows CE, in C and C# .NET
- Main embedded application called ‘Compas’ relies today on more than 150.000 lines of codes
- Electronic hardware design from schematic and mechanical draws to mass production in our factory
- Introduction of software quality, source code management, traceability, etc.
- Active member of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), I proposed a new
protocol for energy monitoring systems based on XML and web services (ES 202 336). I presented this
new standard as Chairman of the monitoring session at 2007 International Telecommunications Energy
Conference
- The developed monitoring is a business success, thousands of devices are sold a year, the flexible
design is still under continuous improvement and used by many customers (>10k devices in the field).
- Customer support all over the world; sales support for application presentation
- Application testing and documentation
Cherokee International - Mitra Energy & Infrastructure (MBO)
R&D Group Leader / ICT Manager
CIO – Chief Information Officer
Alpha Technologies S.A. (bought by the Alpha Group)
Director of ICT and Software Engineering
May 2008 – Sept 2008
Oct 2008 – Dec 2009
Jan 2010 – Now
- As our ICT director left the company, and in addition to my project leader job, I’ve been asked to manage
and improve the entire ICT infrastructure
- I became member of the management team, reporting to CEO
- In charge of a team of 4+ peoples (ERP Manager, ICT supervisor, Developers) + Consultants on project
basis
- Job title updated to CIO to be officially member of the management team.
- I quickly started to improve our ICT infrastructure.
- Design and development of internal web applications to manage all the technical and production
documentation, tools to manage quickly the Engineering change requests.
- Automation of procedures to increase company efficiency (code request, build of materials).
- Replacement of all the servers with the deployment of high tech virtualized environment (VMware,
VSphere) – ROI in a year.
- Replacement of desktop and laptop to avoid computers older than 4 years.
- Backup automation with VEEAM.
- New firewall installation.
- New mail server implementation (Kerio Connect).
- Deployment of Microsoft Project Server Professional for the R&D.
- Deployment of Microsoft SharePoint as collaborative portal inside all the departments.
- Better internal ICT support.
- Deployment of a new public web site (Drupal based).
- Development of the server application ‘Armada’ to manage thousands of energy monitoring (developed
previously). This was designed as a 3-tier application, with concerns about high availability and efficiency.
It is about alarming, reporting, asset management, data record consolidation and analysis, maintenance,
document management, etc. It is based on the proposed ETSI standard.
- Test environment to emulate large networks of energy monitoring (Software quality).
3. - We went to bankruptcy in March 2010 and got bought by the Alpha Group.
- The new challenge was to restart the company.
- IT support to outsource production in china.
- Deployment of Accounting system optimized for Belgium rules (Sage BOB50).
- Implementation of a new ERP system: migration from QAD MFG Pro to Infor Syteline, with very little help
from external services. This ERP is also used by our investor in Alpha Canada.
- In charge of helping the group with the development of a new embedded energy monitoring platform,
based on previous successful developments. (International Project, in Vancouver).
- Customization of the ERP to support the business (Custom procedures, reporting, dynamic excel).
- Deployment of JIRA and Subversion/Mercurial to follow software developments and track issues.
- Support for new R&D software tools (Solidworks, Altium, PDM, …)
- Optimization of Financial and Operational processes.
- Automated build server implementation for quality improvement of the software engineering deliverables.
- Relocation of the Company to Louvain-La-Neuve: contracting and follow up for internal network, internet
communications, VOIP phones, infrastructure move …
