3. Unlocking of terms
Expressionism- it is an artistic style in which the artist seeks to depict not objective reality but
rather the subjective emotions and responses that objects and events within a person.
Fauvism- it is a style that used bold, vibrant colors and visual distortions.
Dadaism- it is a style characterized by dream fantasies, memory images, and visual tricks.
Surrealism- it is a style that depicted an illogical, subconscious dream world beyond the logical,
conscious, physical one.
Social realism- it expresses the artist’s role in social reform. Artists used their works to protest
against the injustices, inequalities, immorality, and ugliness of the human condition.
C. Learning Activities
1. Surrealism. Recall a memorable dream that you had. Write your short story about it by
describing it in detail.
2. Social Realism. Choose from any of the social issues below. Write a short essay on your
stand on the chosen issue.

Expressionism focuses more with the artists’ imagination and feelings, rather than with
what their eyes saw in the physical world.
4. Assessment
Surrealistic Painting. In a piece of paper, draw and Paint the dream that you described in
an earlier activity.
5. Application
Make a poster that depicts the social issue that you chose in the earlier activity. Apply
heavy and dark colors as per the style of Fauvism.
