Over 1 million ceramic tiles has been used on
roof.

17. The use of tiles in Islamic architecture was an important influence on Utzon at
the Sydney Opera House.
The Friday Mosque in Isfahan, Iran, also influenced Utzon’s early designs for
the Major Hall.

• Interior is made of pink granite extracted
from Tarana, timber and plywood from
NSW.
• The covers of the theatre are covered with
1.056 million glossy white and cream tiles.

wind technology is used.
