Hinweis der Redaktion

  1. The last year has been one of significant positive change for public educationWe have seen unprecedented community and district alignment around some key priorities that were jointly identified around this time last year
  2. JCCI comparisonReally shows that the superintendent and school board are a team
  3. Priorities from the strategic plan and community agreementWhich priority is most important to address first? As you can see, the community felt that working to develop great teachers and leaders was a top priority. This really shows where there can be a great area of alignment — community, district, philanthropic.
  4. Additional notes:The IRS regulations that govern spending limits specifically cover lobbying on specific pieces of legislation.Under our current and proposed budgets, we could spend up to $225,000 on these activities per yearOur current spending on this is $0The Rapid Response Team is something that we have done informally in the past – this formalizes the process and ensures that the board is always in the loopHand over to Deirdre to set up the guiding principles discussion and breakout instructions.

  6. Emerging issue of school grades
  7. - Finally, we wanted to draw your attention to a question that really demonstrates the support in the community for a crucial education improvement that has been in the news lately. Common Core State Standards will ensure that students in Florida are meeting the same high expectations as students in other states. When we asked respondents whether this was important, they agreed by a very wide margin. This shows that we need to continue to educate the public on what these standards are.
  8. Thank you so much for taking time to be here today. This poll will be an annual event, and the information from the poll will be presented to delegates to the Second Annual ONE by ONE convention on January 18, 2014. We encourage you all to be there. Now I’ll take some questions.
