1. Tailgates &Tanlinesby country artist Luke Bryan (2011) his 3rd studio album
Artist Background Information:
Luke started his career in the mid 2000’s as a writer for artists like Travis Tritt and Billy Currington
He started recording his first album “I’ll Stay Me” in 2007 after signing with Capitol Records Nashville,
which features hits like “Rain Is a Good Thing”, “Someone Else Calling You Baby" and “All My Friends
Say”
Late last year, Luke announced his first headlining tour with Florida-Georgia Line & Thompson Square
called the “Dirt Road Diaries Tour”, I’ll put a link to the tour information below
Album Background:
Tailgates &Tanlines peaked at number one on the Top Country Albums and number two on the Billboard
200. Songs from the album to “chart” at #1 include "I Don't Want This Night to End," "Drunk On You,"
and "Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye", and Country Girl (Shake It For Me)
Track by Track Review:
1. Country Girl (Shake It for Me) - First single off the album, when it was released it debuted and
number 52 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs… Like the backing drum beat, catchy vocals;
great lyrics, a song about "a country girl getting up there getting a little wild"… This song was
criticized by critics, who called it sexist, I see what they mean by this but I see it as a good party
song…..
2. Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye– Good lyrics… very catchy, country rock feel, great guitar work……
About a couple who has broken up and are trying to reunite
3. Drunk On You –Like the opening to this song, again very catchy lyrics, very descriptive… Like the
fact that this song is a love song with a party feel…. Meaning: About a guy finding love one
summer and not being able to forget her.
4. Too Damn Young – I like the classic country feel to this song, good vocals, catchy… This song is
about a summer love that Luke had, and the good times this had during that summer
5. I Don't Want This Night to End– Classic summer anthem about "a guy meeting a girl, and it's the
first night that they're hanging out. It's a magical night and he doesn't want it to end. It's got a
big fun chorus in it.…. Like the instrumental work and mixed vocals to this song, first song I
actually heard off this album… One of Luke best songs ever, it was called an "infectious and sing-
a-long ready"….
6. You Don't Know Jack –It has a depressing tone about a man’s struggle with the whiskey
bottle, this song is very personal; a real life song… As many people deal with alcohol and have to
deal with these same consequences mentioned in this song.
7. Harvest Time–Like this songs country rock feel. Good lyrics, about the average harvest time for
farming towns in the south. Its shows all the hard work that has to be given by everyone in the
community to get food to market.
2. 8. I Know You're Gonna Be There – Like this song slow buildup and the country rock feel, good
lyrics… this song is about [A Guy] You miss her and want to see her badly. You bring someone to
your favorite place knowing she's gonna be there. It hurts a lot, and no one will fill that void
other than her. Classic love song….
9. Muckalee Creek Water– Like the slow, southern rock feel to this song, something that Jason
Aldean would write. Anyway good lyrics, love the rough guitar work… I’d say this song is closest
to a pure rocker off this album… Its about want to go back to his roots
10. Tailgate Blues– This song is the most depressed off the album, about just feeling depressed and
reflecting back on his past. Like the lyrics [very heartfelt] and the dueling vocals on the chorus.
11. Been There, Done That– Like the fast country feel, the lyrics are good, catchy, especially in the
chorus.. Good guitar work.. Interesting meaning, something everyone can relate to during there
like…. because it reminds me of me been there done that i have done it so many times
12. Faded Away– Like the opening guitar riffs.. About a summer love that suddenly disappeared
after summer….. Can also be related to friends after high school who just “fade away” and don’t
really talk anymore…
13. I Knew You That Way – Like the acoustic guitar opening, this song has an extremely depressed
feel, its about a man who lost his lover and hes reflecting back on the past and all the wasted
memories.
My favorite tracks: Drunk on You, Too Damn Young, I Don't Want This Night to End, You Don't
Know Jack, I Know You're Gonna Be There, Been There, Done That
Overall this album is really good; I’d give it a sold 9 out of 10, because of some slow parts…. Anyway I’d
say this is Luke’s best to date not only because of the hits but because on the overall lyrics, especially on
the “lesser known songs”; they sound very deep and passionate but because of the instrumental work
through the entire album was great. With all the positives being said I believe that Luke has a lot to live
up to on his next studio record, which is currently in the works, because of this one’s success and his
mainstream country popularity. One more thing, if you have a chance to see Luke on his upcoming
summer tour, I would defiantly do it because he’s a great live performer, as I saw him with Jason Aldean
last summer….
