Urban landscape photography documents urban life and cities. It started in the late 1800s when John Thomson photographed street life in London. There are several subfields of urban landscape photography including cityscape photography which captures the whole city, architectural photography which focuses on buildings, and street photography which documents people's lives in the city. While related to documentary photography, urban landscape photography does not chronicle historical events and focuses more on random images of the present rather than people's lives.
