2. THE WORKING TITLES
Film Idea 1
The Working Title that I have chosen for my idea 1 film is "S.A.D in the winter". I have
chosen this because the main character in my story suffers from this and is what my film
is based around. I think that it is a good indicator as to what my film is about and is a
good play on words. I feel that this instantly makes the film more intriguing
Film Idea 2
The Working Title for my second film idea is "Letter x". This is essentially a play on words
as the main character keeps on getting letters from an ex but she does not know which
ex it is, when something is anonymous it is usually signed off with an x.
3. RUNNING TIMES
Film Idea 1
As both of my films are short films, they will not have a particularly long running time. I
have decided that I would like my short films to be in the region of around 8 minutes
long. This will give me enough time to tell the story that I am making while not
exceeding the time that a short film usually is expected to be.

4. LONGLINE/ TAGLINES
Film Idea 1
The Tagline for my first idea is, "as the cold comes, so does the sadness". The cold
connotes winter and that is when the main character gets most depressed. It also hints at
the fact that she absolutely dreads the winter coming and the anxiety that she feels as it
does.
Film Idea 2
The Tagline for my second idea is, "watch this space". This is because the main character
is always waiting for another letter to come through, reinforcing the torment that she
faces, wondering who it is sending her letters.
5. SYNOPSIS OF THREE CLEAR ACTS
Film Idea 1
⢠Act 1- India is sat in her room and we can see her inner thoughts and all of the anxiety that she feels due to the fact that winter is coming.
⢠She has cut off all contact with her friends. Narrating over the top we can see her sat in her room in the dark wondering around and looking at all
of the memories she has collected over summer with her friends, feeling very lonely and depressive.
⢠Act 2- We see India go outside to all of the places that she visited in the summer and see what they look like to her then, in comparison to what
they look like to her in the winter. She visits places such as the beach and the forest. She has a breakdown at the final place that she visits as she
realises that she has a real problem.
⢠Act 3- We see her starting to deal with winter better, she is still not fully over S.A.D and she realises that it is going to take her time, we see her
get by in winter but with occasional breakdowns. We then hear a more positive India as she realises that summer is just around the corner.
Film Idea 2
⢠Act 1- We see the first letter come through the door and is opened by Anabella she is extremely concerned about what the letter is as it looks
very anonymous. The contents of the letter are admitting to mistakes and wanting to get back together. She starts to panic due to the fact that
she has two exes and has no idea which one it could be but has no way of contacting either which she has always regretted.
⢠Act 2- More letters keep on coming through the door and she feels as lough she has finally cracked who it is until, another letter comes through
the door and that then throws her, she realises that she has no idea who it is and has a breakdown about it.
⢠Act 3- Anabella decides that she is going to stop opening the letters that she is receiving but then she soon regrets this decision as she realises
she does not want to cut all contact again. The last letter has a number on it and the last shot we see, is of her texting the number and then we
see a text come through from on the ex-sending her the letters and we discover who the ex-actually is, sending the letters.
6. TARGET AUDIENCES
Film Idea 1
I feel as though my target audience will be mostly teenagers and people in their early twenties. This is because the main character that my
story is based around is in her late teens. This means that the target audience may be able to identify with some of the traits that my main
character has. This does not necessarily have to mean that they suffer from seasonal affective disorder but she is still a normal teenage
girl so people will relate. People with this order may also relate to some aspects. Therefore, I feel as though the target audience will be in
the social category D and E, in terms of the social demographic scale. In terms of the 4C's scale I feel as though the target audience would
be the aspirer because they would always be looking for ways to feel better and to improve themselves.
Film Idea 2
I feel as though my target audience will be mostly teenagers and probably, more predominantly female as this is more of a rom-com than
anything else. This is because the main character that my story is based around is in her late teens. This means that the target audience
may be able to identify with some of the traits that my main character has. In terms of the social demographic scale I feel as though the
target audience will be in the category of E as they will mostly be teenagers, in full time education, with part-time jobs. I feel as though in
terms of the 4C's scale, they would be the explorer as they are always looking for a new adventure
7. KEY CHARACTERS
Film Idea 1
India- For my first film idea the only real key character is India, who is also the main character. She suffers from the mental illness SAD.
She is very open and extremely happy in the summer. To her friends, she is a completely different person in the summer, compared to the
winter. In the winter she is very sad and reserved and rarely wants to go out. She narrates all of her feeling throughout the film. She hates
the fact that she feels so depressed in the winter and every time she tries to shake the feeling even just a little, she finds that she simply
can't. She matches her clothes and her makeup to the way that she feels, in the winter it is dark makeup and dark clothes but in the
summer she wears flowy bright clothes and bright makeup.
Film Idea 2
⢠Anabella- She is a sweet very down to earth 17 year old. She has a nice group of friends. She has been with two boys in the
past and is currently single. She unfortunately decided to cut off all contact with both of her exes and is now something that
she regrets. She tries her hardest not to think about it but the regret eats her up a lot of the time as she knows she could
have been friends with them. She feels as though she throws things away a lot.
⢠Alex- We do not see Alex in person but he is certainly a key characters in the film. He is Anabella's last boyfriend. We find
out about the way that Alex is feeling throughout the film because he is the one that has been sending Anabella the letters.
Their relationship lasted 4 months. They did not end on bad terms and he still wanted to be friends but Anabella wanted to
cut off all contact, he understands because that is her way of dealing with the situation but is upset none the less. Especially
as he was the one that ended the relationship, so feels extremely guilty. After spending some time apart he has decided that
he wants to reconcile with her. He wonât give any clues as to who he is in the letters though because he is too shy. He will
soon overcome this however.
⢠Matty- He is a key suspect to writing the letters. We do not know much about him however, we only know that the
relationship did not end well and he is not particularly fussed that they did not stay in contact. Anabella puts this down to
8. FORMS AND STYLES
Film Idea 1
The form and style of my film is very modern and realistic. I am going to use ambient lighting for my film. This will add to the
realistic nature of the film. I want my film to be stylistically real as SAD, is a very real issue that many people do suffer from. I
feel that having a realistic style to my film is necessary so that I can fully convey the mental illness but in a very sensitive
manner as this is something that people will be very sensitive to. I will shoot my film on a digital camera, this will add to the
realistic nature that I am trying to convey throughout my film.
Film Idea 2
Film2- The form and style of this film will be as realistic as I can possibly make it. This is because this is a real
situation (having exes) that most people go through. I will approach the matter as sensitively as I can. I am
going to shoot this on a digital camera to convey the realness of the situation and use mostly ambient lighting.
9. MARKETPLACES
Film Idea 1
I feel as though my film does have the potential to do well because I do feel as though it is a topic that not a lot of people know about. Therefore, I
feel as though there will be many people that would be willing and want to educate themselves on the mental health illness. I also think that people
that suffer from this illness may want to watch the film and find it comforting to know that people are aware of this illness and there are actually
unfortunately a lot of people that do suffer from this.
I think that there is potential for a sequel with this film because I could potentially show how her life has improved and her mental state is a lot
better.
Film Idea 2
I feel as though this film could have the potential to do well but I feel as though the audience is not particularly broad so I feel as though
it may only do well with certain audiences.
I don't think that there is a potential for a sequel as I don't think there is much more that I could explore with the idea of letters that the
film is all about.
10. SCRIPTS
Film Idea 1
The Script is narrated by India and will be in the form of a voice over.
Scene 1
India: Christmas, Halloween and Bonfire night all of which occur in the winter. Events that are supposed to be happy and exciting. All of which people look forward to and all of which I dread.
I dread the bitter winds. I dread the harsh rain but most of all I dread the sadness.
The closer I get to it, the worse the depression gets. The more the anxiety kicks in, so I block everyone out, I turn out the lights and I sit in my room alone. I will go out but only occasionally. I'll go out
but when I do it just brings back good memories. Good memories that are over. Good memories that only make me sad. Because they are gone, they are over and I set myself up for another six
months of sadness.
I suffer from the, mental illness, S.A.D. Every day in the winter I long for it to go, to leave me alone. To not feel like Iâm trapped in my own mind.
Film Idea 2
Scene 1 narrated by Anabella
Anabella: someone is sending me letters. This someone is an ex of mine, the problem is I don't know who which one. There are two. I took it upon myself to cut off all contact with
them, i regret that now. I wish I had kept the friendship that we had but I didn't.
So I have no way of contacting either and he whoever he is, claims to still like me. So now I'm stuck and confused and have no idea what to do.
I have had two letters so far and I have no idea how many more I am going to get.
