Q1) What is Vastushastra?
Answer - VASTUSHASTRA is an ancient Hindu practice to construct buildings in
harmony with natural forces for wellbeing of humanity as a whole. It is the science of
Vedic architecture . Vastu literally means " house" or Dwelling Place and its
principles establish to create a harmony between the five elements viz.
'panchabhuta' (Earth, Sky, Fire, Water and Air) in the environment. Vastu Shastra
based on flow of energy (prana in Sanskrit). “…this is science which deals with the
eternal process of the subtle energy (Vastu) manifesting into material space or
material form (Vaastu). In short, it is the science of manifestation of energy into

It is a rich Hindu philosophy, which is given in a number of ancient works including
Vedas. It is the traditional Indian system of architecture and design of Vedic origin.
vastu means the dwelling of humans and Gods. Many Vastu rules are derived from
'Vastu Purusha' who is depicted as a man lying with his head pointing northeast, in a
grid of usually 64 squares assigned to different Gods and Guardians.
Q2) What is Mundi Vaastu?
Answer: Mundi Vaastu is based on energy based theory and not connected to any
cast, creed, and religion. It is derived from ancient Indian scriptures and helps to
maximize the positive energy present in house/workplace and attain a harmonious

Q3) How is Mundi vastu different from present Vaastu Shashtra?
Answer: In Vaastu Shashtra; the good direction of door is said to be north or east,
master bed room in south west, kitchen in south east, guest room in north west,
mandir in north east, no toilets in North east etc. These days it is not possible due to
shortage of space or due to apartment system.

Answer - The object of Vastushastra is to provide guidelines for proper construction

results if applied properly. It defines the proportions and details of building

Vastushastra. Vastushastra is important for construction of houses, villages, towns,

Answer: "The universe is in precise order, moving in precise time through many
billions of years.Vastu shows us how to design structures that are in tune with nature
and that do not struggle against it. In this way nature supports our success and

Q7) How is it going to help me?
Answer: You are a universe within a universe. Did you notice that your body feels
different within different places? The more your place is synchronized with nature,
the better the atoms in your body receive the energy, and thus they do not have to
struggle to get the energy required. Therefore, you will always have extra energy to

Answer - A plot is square if all four sides are straight and equal in length and it has
equal angle of 90 degree at all four corners. Square is the best shape of a plot. A
plot is rectangular if it has four straight sides and equal angles of 90 degree at all
corners with opposite sides of equal length. A rectangular plot having its length not
more that double the breadth (length and breadth not more that 1:2) is a very good
plot.
Q10) What are the things there are to be kept in mind while selecting a plot?

Geographical surroundings & Level of the land. And Roads around the plot.
Q11) How one can determined direction of his plot?
Answer - Direction of a plot can be determined by any of the two modern simple
methods by using a compass, the device for finding direction which has a freely
moving needle which always points to the magnetic North. make two lines crossing
each other dividing a paper in four equal parts at 90-degree angle. Place a compass
on paper in the middle of your plot and align it with two lines in the North and the
South of the needle of the compass. Extend these lines on the plot and mark it to
have exact direction.
Q12) Which is the best location for bedrooms?
Answer - The Southwest portion of the house is meant for bedroom for adults. It may
be located in the South, and will be congenial for comfortable living. Master bedroom
may be on the upper storey, if any, in the Southwest portion of the house.
Q13) Which is a good location for children room?
Answer – Children bed room should be in the northwest or West Side. To have a
better concentration they should have a separate study close to their bedrooms.
Q14) Whether there is any principle in Vastushastra regarding location of Kitchen?
Answer - Location of kitchen has health implications. Presiding deity of the
Southeast is Agni, the God of fire; hence kitchen may be located the southeast
corner of the house.
Q15) Is it necessary kitchen has to be in southeast direction, God’s place in
northeast?
Answer: Just make survey of the houses which were constructed before 30-40
years, you would rarely find houses having kitchen in southeast or God’s place in
northeast. These stipulations are created by present so called Vaastu pundits with a
mind to simply misguide people. You can have a kitchen in any part of your house.
You also even keep God in any part of your house/workplace, since God is praised
as Niraakaar, Nirguna, and sarvaantaryaami which means He does not have any

Q16) Is there is any location of bathrooms prescribed in Vastushastra?

bathroom may preferably be in the North, or the East of a bedroom. Shower, bathing
tub and wash basin in the bathroom may be in the Northeast, or the North or the
East direction. One may have bath in the North or the East area in the bathroom.
Bathroom should never be constructed in the center or in the southwest corner of the
house.
Q17) What should be the best location of Drawing room?
Answer - Drawing room should be preferably in the Northeast or the North or the
East but not in the Southwest portion of the house. More vacant space should be
given in the Northeast corner of the drawing room.. Door is preferable on the East
towards the Northeast side.
Q18) Which is the best location for Dining room?
Answer - The dining room should be located in the East or the West or the North
nears the kitchen. Northwest corner is good for perishable goods. Dinning room may
be in the Northwest direction, which leads to quicker consumption of food.
Q19) Whether Location of studyroom has any effect on Vastushastra?
Answer - One should face the North or the East or the Northeast while studying and
he will be shining more. Therefore the best locations for study room are the north,
east, or northeast. These directions attract the positive effects of Mercury increasing
brain power, Jupiter (guru) increasing wisdom, Sun increasing ambition and Venus
(shukra) helps in bringing about creativity in new thoughts and ideas. Books may be
kept in the Southwest side of the room. Study room may have door on the East or
the North, or the Northeast

Answer - Storeroom should be made in the Northwest or Southwest portion of the
house. It is very beneficial if grains and other provisions are stored in the Northwest
store. All heavy things may be stored in the Southwest of the storeroom. Garbage
may be collected in the Southern side portion of the house.
Q21) Which is the best place for God’s place?
Answer: When we question where is God? You will give answer confidently he is
present all over. When again we put the same question after constructing the house,
you will select northeast as the place. What made you to change your mind? It is
simple, that you are misguided by the Vaastu books and the pundits who have

can keep God at any place in house/workplace. Cre should be taken that it should
not touch the toilet or bath room wall.
Q22) In which direction one should sleep?
Answer - Direction of a person while sleeping also has importance in Vastushastra.
One should never sleep having head towards the North Pole and legs towards the
South Pole. However one may sleep having legs towards the West and head
towards the East for mental peace, good thoughts and spirituality.
Q23) Is it necessary that, north and east are only auspicious directions for the main
door of house/workplace?
Answer: All directions are made by god the almighty; hence all directions are good
provided the placement of door is at right position. More precisely it can be
considered with date of birth and the best door direction can be derived.
Every individual is having 4 favourable and 4 unfavourable directions as per their
date of birth. If north or east comes under unfavorable direction on the basis of date
of birth it will bring adversity.
But these days many a times you get a good house but may have minor faults like

Q27) How does vastu shastra compare to feng shui? Which one should I apply in
my home?
Answer: Vastu shastra and feng shui are both ancient and sacred bodies of
knowledge revealing the connection between humans and the dwellings they inhabit.
The concept of Feng Shui is not very different from Vaastu. The principle behind
both are the same. Chinese refer to Chi as the cosmic breath and recognize that
there is a male (positive) force and a female (negative) force which they call ‘Yin’ and
‘Yang’. Just as Vaastu recognizes that the entire universe is made up of five basic
elements, the Chinese also recognize the five elements.
In Vaastu, the five elements are earth, water, air, fire and space (aakash). In Feng
Shui the five elements are designated as earth, water, fire, wood and metal. Both
sciences believe that the building should be oriented towards the north-south
direction. Vedic Vastu Shastra is a very scientific understanding of nature with the
basic five elements. They are there physically, where as in Feng Shui, it is more of a
kind of belief and faith. Feng Shui does not consider cosmic energies while Vastu

Q28) The person is facing financial loss. Is it any way connected to Vaastu?
Answer: If we take life to be 100%, then out of which are 40% our luck/star/nasib and

Vastushastra it is known as Vastu Purusha. The 'Vastu Purusha' is said to be the

Answer - The proportion between length and breadth should be 1:1 but i t should not
exceed 1:2 ratio.

Vaastu?
