2. WEIGHT LOSS ENLIGHTENMENT
This book will give you an introduction on how
you can become an Enlightened Eater. An
Enlightened Eater is someone who is at their
normal body weight without food anxiety or
dieting. There are many people like this in the
world and you can become one too (without
dieting)!
But ... you must realize that more you try to
lose weight, the more you suffer. To lose weight
and keep it off, you must forget about losing
weight.
This is the fundamental paradox of Weight Loss
Enlightenment. Instead you must focus on
learning weight loss skills instead of focusing
on having a lower number on the scale!

Learn why you never need to
calorie count or diet again
Just Do It ... Just Doesn't Work!
My story: back in highschool I wrestled for 3.5
years ... and hated every minute of it.
3.5 years of starving myself, gaining weight and
losing weight in an endless cycle ...
You can see me to the left wearing my wrestling
singlet. I wasn't smiling.
I was starving myself constantly saying to myself in
the back of my mind "JUST DO IT".
Unfortunately this had the effect of making me
hate myself. I hated wrestling, every minute of it.
Yet because I hated myself, I did it.
Funny how your mind works sometimes ...
5. Diets say JUST DO IT too ...
I fell into mainstream dieting advice.
The picture to the left is mainstream
advice.
In college I got anemia and felt
totally fatigued because my nutrition
was off due to dieting. Below you
can see some other diets.
I thought (wrongly) that I should JUST
DO IT ...
• Just don't eat uneahlthy
• Just track your points, carbs, or calories
• Just exercise more
• Just stop being lazy
Just Do It Leads
To A TERRIBLE
CYCLE ...
5
6. 6
I becameincredibly
depressedandanxious
so I became a Zen
monk and shaved off
my eyebrows.
.By trying to JUST DO IT, I became incredibly depressed.
To manage my depression I started smoking weed every day. I was alone all through college and didn't kiss a
single girl. I was so unhappy I didn't even go to college graduation.
So I dropped out of society. I hit rock bottom. In desperation I became a Zen monk.
Trust me, you have to be pretty dang desperate to actually become a monk!
You can see I shaved off my eyebrows. I was tired of trying to look a certain way and doing things I hated deep
down:
• I hated calorie counting
• I hated making myself exercise
• I hated making myself eat healthy and then get irresistible cravings and feel terrible about myself
7. 7
While living as a Zen monk for 13 months ... I healed.
• I stopped binge eating. My food cravings disappeared.
• I made tremendous progress in loving myself. My inner critic became much quieter.
• I started regaining my confidence and feeling normal around food again.
This experience made me realize ...
Diets always lead to a negative cycle. This INSIGHT is one of many Weight Loss Enlightenment's you'll have!
8. 8
The Diet
Industry Is A
$585 Billion
Dollar
Conspiracy
Because I experienced such profound transformation living as a monk, I decided to try to help people heal.
So I became a personal trainer. When I started working as a personal trainer however, I learned the truth
about the diet industry.
All the Diet Industry cares about is long-term customers who buy their weight loss
programs ... again and again and again.
This means the things you do to lose weight - calorie count, track, diet, etc - don't work in the long run.
You may see weight loss in the short-term, but these activities are misguided. They are recommended
by the diet industry which has a huge conflict of interest! Doing diets only leads you to the negative
cycle on the previous page.
9. 9
Section 1 Recap
This is why you never need to calorie count or diet again
1st - The numbers don't lie. 95% of people who try dieting regain all the weight they lost.
Would you drive car if you knew you had a 95% chance of crashing and harming you permanently?
2nd - Now you know why diet companies lie to you.
This is a great business strategy for the diet industry. You buy their diet. You lose weight. You regain
weight. You buy another diet. Great for business!
Now Let's Learn How You Can Become An Enlightened Eater!!
10. 10
Start by Unconditionally Eating
Now that you know a bit about me
and we know diets don't work ...
Let's talk about Weight Loss
Enlightenment. The biggest
enlightenment is realizing ...
You actually will lose weight by
listening to your hunger! Instead of
following diet rules, your hunger is your
inner voice you must listen to!
It's very paradoxical. This is another
Weight Loss Enlightenment!
Here's more information about how
your Hunger is your inner guide and is
the key to long-term weight loss...

How Unconditional Eating
Got Started Scientifically
In 2005 Steven Hawks, a health professor
discovered unconditional eating ...
He noticed that if he gave himself
permission to eat anything he wanted to ...
I'm talking anything at anytime ... like "ice
cream bars, M&Ms, etc"
Then Steven realized he didn't crave these
things as much anymore!
If he listened to his hunger, he would be ok!
This article to the left sparked a scientific
movement! Tons of scientific research began
after this article. I am super excited to tell you
more about what they found!
12. But what
about
nutrition?!
Don't worry. We will
be talking about
nutrition in Section 4:
Learn to naturally
gravitate towards
healthy eating and
lifestyle.
But won't I
get fat if I
eat what I
want to?
Don't worry.
Remember
unconditional eating
is only one step. For
more info see last
page of this book.
12
13. 13
The First Step Is Eating
When You're Hungry And
Learning To Give Yourself
Permission To Eat!
Most chronic dieters have a life or death struggle with food. This is incredibly stressful and triggers your body's
survival instinct to eat food!
For example, one woman I worked with said she had just a small bite of chocolate. She said she constantly
was felt anxious around food because she was afraid of eating uneahlthy. This stress overwhelmed her and
she would eat healthy 99% of the time ...
She didn't realize this food stress was being interpreted by her body as a sign she was starving and
causing her to overeat!
The lesson is: when we feel stress around food, our bodies automatically assume we are starving and cause us
to want more food!
She would "fail" and then feel absolutely terrible (like seriously the worst type of guilt imaginable, deep self
hatred for days). She felt so bad she quit her diet, regained the weight and lost all her self-confidence. And
she did this 13x before I finally helped her realize that stressfully losing weight automatically 100% of the time
would always cause her body to eat more food! But when she could eat anything this mean there was no
stress!
14. 14
No guilt either ...
Over the course of becoming the Top Rated
Personal Trainer of 2018, according to Thumbtack,
I've seen one pattern over and over again.
Binge > Fat Shame > Lack of Trust in Oneself
Have you heard of Brene Brown? She's down a lot
of work on shame.
When you diet you automatically fail. It's stressful
and stress causes you to eat. Then you think it's your
fault and feel guilty. Over time, you internalize this
thought. This becomes fat shame.
Fat shame grows with every diet. Eventually you
lose trust in your body (and need to buy another
diet).
Yet if you just give your self permission to eat and
listen to hunger then there's no guilt!
15. 215
Section 2 Recap
1st - Eat when you're hungry!
This might sound crazy right now.
Where's the nutrition? I'm still worried I might
become fat!
If you're thinking those thoughts, don't worry.
Trust me, next section you'll understand a lot
more about how unconditional eating is the
first step to building real, lasting confidence
with food.
2nd - Eating anything means no stress or guilt.
Having food stress means your body will
automatically thinks it's starving and will make
you eat food and gain weight.
Being guilty means you will experience fat
shame and stop trusting yourself (which
needless to say is the opposite of awareness!)
On the other hand, when you start following
your hunger you easily and completely
removes all this unnecessary stress and guilt
(which are the real reasons you aren't losing
weight and have to keep trying dieting).
16. 16
Eating whatever is good if you
have awareness
When I got my Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from
Santa Clara University I had an opportunity to study the
science of Intuitive Eating.
Intuitive Eating began as a science in 2005, based on the
article you saw earlier. Now there are over 100+ scientific
articles from universities like UCLA and more.
Here's a link to most of the Intuitive Eating studies ever
published.
See, the Steven Hawks, the professor back in 2005 who started
this whole movement, he did a huge in-depth study with
hundreds of people. Here's what he found:
Some people have high levels of awareness. For these people
eating anything actually leads to lower BMI, lower body fat
and lower stress.
The key thing is having good awareness. Once I understood
this I was like "Duh!". This was what I studied as a monk, yoga
teacher and counselor! This was why I cured my binge eating
when I lived as a monk - I had learned Intuitive Eating!
Plus, awareness of my hunger was how I went from starving at
125 lbs to a healthy, muscular 160. Nowadays I use the word
Enlightened Eating in a very similar way.
Link to great scientific study demonstrating eating whatever
you want is good as long as you have enough awareness:

Section 3
Learn to have trust and
confidence around food
17. Enlightened Eating is not just mindfuleating!!
You have to learn skills.
Often times when I start talking about awareness people
assume I am talking about mindful eating or intuitive
eating. However, people don't realize that:
a) awareness is a skill
b) there are different forms of awareness like
fullness and hunger
As you can see in the image, mindful eating is
important. But it's only 1/3 of a Healthy Eating
Cycle. I teach people to learn weight loss skills in
all aspects of this eating cycle. These are some
of the Weight Loss Skills you can learn:
• Hunger
• Anticipation
• Eating
• Pleasure
• Fullness
• Satisfaction
Because Weight Loss Enlightenment is about learning
skills, this means we expect you to be awkward and fail
many times! This a natural part of the process.
18. 2
Reducing Emotional Eating Is Also A Skill
Okay. We're all guilty of being on our cellphones while we eat food.
A few minutes go by and all of a sudden the food is gone! What most people don't realize is that the root
cause of cellphones and distracted eating is Emotional Eating.
You may find yourself eating because you are bored, hurt, sad, angry or all sorts of other reasons. Eating
becomes how you manage your emotions.
For many people they also experience internal voices which cause you stress and guilt. Stress and guilt
cause your body to automatically "fail" your diet and gain weight (because your body is programmed to
think stress means it's hungry). These voices then become critical.
So becoming an Enlightened Eater is not just being aware of your body. Enlightened Eating also includes
learning new ways of thinking about food and freeing your self from the Food Cops (or the voices inside
your head which constantly judge what you eat!
18
19. You Have Enlightened Eating Within You!
Millions of years ago humans didn't have diet plans. They didn't have activity trackers, meal plans or
anything. While it's true modern society with technology and television makes weight gain more likely, the
bottom line is that we evolved over millions of years to regulate our weight naturally - without diets and
rules.
This means you can trust yourself, simply because you are a human being. The practice of becoming an
Enlightened Eater is simply a process of learning to trust yourself, listen to your body, and stop thinking
negative thoughts.
This can be hard for some people to believe who have failed at diets many times. They have
subconsciously believed their hunger was their enemy. Others come from a history of childhood abuse
and have used food their entire life to cope with negative emotions. In these types of situations many
people doubt they can become Enlightened Eaters.
However, by learning hunger first and then mastering other weight loss skills, you can first start to learn to
become aware of your hunger, even if it's just like a tiny voice at first and hard to hear.
20. 20
But what about bad habits?
Now what happens for a lot of people at this point
is they start asking about bad habits.
People start to realize they have been tricked by
the diet industry into purchasing short term solutions
to weight loss.
They start to realize that following hunger means
they don't have rules anymore!
So far, so good. It sounds right. This is how you start
building confidence. But then people start to
wonder ... what about bad habits?
If I just 'listen' to my body then won't I just eat sugary
foods all day that I used to avoid?
Oftentimes letting go of rules is very frightening for
people. Don't worry. This whole process is designed
to go one comfortable step at a time.
We'll cover that next section!
21. 2221
Section 3 Recap
Learn to have trust and
confidence around food
1. Eating unconditionally frees you from stress
and guilt.
2. Being free of stress and guilt means you are
free from distracted eating and have the
potential to bring awareness to your hunger
cycle.
3. Your hunger cycle is hunger, eating and
fullness.
4. If you haven't listened to your inner voice of
hunger for sometime this voice might be quiet
at first.
5. But then people start to wonder ... what
about bad habits? We haven't answered this
question, yet ;)
22. 22
Section 4
Learn to naturally
gravitate towards
healthy eating and
lifestyle
Habituation Is Why You Don't Need Rules
Have you ever met a healthy friend who didn't diet? Someone who was naturally thin and could eat
whatever they wanted to without fear of cravings, guilt or weight gain? Of course you have! These people
aren't rare, they are out there. How do they do it!?
Imagine eating nothing but chocolate cake (or whatever else your secret sugary desire is) for 10 days in a
row.
Day 1 would be amazing. But then you would start to get tired of the food. By Day 10 you would be living in
food hell just eating chocolate cake all day.
The science behind this is called 'habituation'. Basically we humans get bored with foods we have all the
time. This causes us to seek out a variety of foods. The graph shows the first day with a big joyful response!
Yet over a few more days the response tapers off.
This is how you can let go of rules. Because in the beginning you may eat unhealthy, but you will learn very
quickly unhealthy foods simply don't feel good. That way you will naturally crave healthy food.
23. 23
Over time with awareness you
naturally eat healthier
It's simple. Healthy foods feel better.
See normally there is so much stress and guilt surrounding
food that your body wants quick sugars and carbs. Then you
feel so guilty, or your thoughts are fixated on eating healthy,
so you get trapped in your head instead of paying more
attention to your body.
When you are in your head, you are distracted. This means
you aren't aware of how the food feels in your body. You
aren't aware of your hunger cycle. Then the negative
dieting cycle begins and you're f*cked. I talked a lot more
about this in the first week of training, which you can get
access to for free on the last page.
See, healthy food feels better. It makes you feel clean and
energized. Unhealthy foods make you feel rotten and lazy.
You just haven't noticed this before because you always
were 'thinking' about what to eat. But now that you can eat
anything and are paying attention, over time you will
naturally start to realize this and eat healthier.
As you gain mastery with Enlightened Eating skills, you will
naturally start to desire healthy foods, instead of having to
follow a diet to tell you to eat healthy.
24. But this sounds too easy ...
If you're thinking this is too easy, please remember the paradox of weight loss. The more you try, the more
you suffer. So let's be grateful this sounds easy - we want easy!
When I first started to understand these principles I was basically starving myself and weighed 125 pounds.
As I started learning about awareness and hunger and giving myself permission to eat without guilt and
listening to my body - I realized that I naturally wanted to eat healthier.
My body naturally started to regulate. Then when I studied Intuitive Eating while getting my Counseling
Master's Degree, I discovered my life purpose to teach these principles.
But, it wasn't totally easy. I mean, eating anything was good. But I still would get caught in guilt and stress.
Sometimes I doubted myself. I would find myself falling out of balance and back into old habits and
negative thoughts.
The next section will look at how we can keep our balance and make lasting habits.
24
25. 25
Section 4 Recap
Learn to naturally gravitate towards healthy eating
and lifestyle
1. When you are free from stress and guilt you can
pay attention to your hunger cycle.
2. Instead of constantly thinking and worrying
about eating 'correctly' you can start to listen to
your body.
3. As you listen to your body, you can start to notice
the subtle effects that food has on your body.
4. As time goes by you naturally start to crave
healthier foods because you habituate to the
unhealthy foods and don't like how they make you
feel.
5. But, this process can be difficult because it's easy
to fall back into guilty thinking and fall out of
balance.
26. 26
Section 5
Stay balanced to defeat
emotional eating and bad
habits
The key is staying balanced
Occasionally people lose their balance.
After I lived as a monk, I became a certified Yoga Instructor. I now teach yoga and help people to
breathe and feel their body and to take a pose. However, sometimes people forget about feeling their
body and get worried about if they are 'doing' yoga correctly.
They get preoccupied with something emotional or logical. Like getting worried if they feel even a twinge
of pain or getting too concerned about having the perfect alignment. Sometimes people are overly
concerned about the 'right' pose.
The same thing happens in Weight Loss Enlightenment. People lose their balance by getting too emotional
or too logical. People get too caught in their left-logical brain, or their right-emotional brain.
This is why in Weight Loss Enlightenment, we teach weight loss skills are a form of art. In art, you find flow. In
art, you have to maintain your balance. In many ways, there is a "yoga" to losing weight and that's what
Weight Loss Enlightenment is all about - finding your balance with food and learning the yoga of weight
loss.
27. 27
Weight Loss Is About
Happiness. Not "Thinness"
This isn't about weight loss.
This picture to the right is perfect. While this
woman is thin, she's not depriving herself.
Her mind is at ease. She's enjoying herself.
She'll be able to be present with her family
and friends.
She'll show up to life.
Who care about weight loss? It's about
having peace with food. And then
paradoxically once you stop caring about
weight loss, you lose weight and keep it off!
This is the enlightenment I keep referring to.
It's not about weight loss.
28. 28
Getting too emotional
When you care about weight loss, you may
become too Emotional. We need some emotional
connection but not too much.
This mainly happens when people get confused
about their emotions and try to cope with their
emotions using food.
And trust me, I'm a trained counselor and have
helped dozens of people lose weight without
dieting. I've met plenty of people who say they've
had past emotional trauma around food from
childhood.
These people have all been able to have normal,
balanced relationships with food.
However, if you use food for emotional coping, you
do need to differentiate between emotional
hunger and physical hunger.
The good news is that once you can spot the
difference, food can actually help you nourish your
aching soul without getting out of balance.
29. 29
Getting too logical
A far more frequent problem is over-thinking.
This is why I've held off speaking about nutrition
until now.
Oftentimes people get so worried about eating
healthy that they forget about listening to their
body.
Remember, if eating healthy were logical then
everyone would be fine. It's not that people don't
know how to eat healthy. It's that people don't
know how to be aware of their hunger and haven't
learned to be naturally drawn towards healthy
foods.
So be aware about thinking too much about food.
Yes, you do need to eat healthy, but first and
foremost you need to have habits of awareness.
And there's no shortcut to building habits of
awareness. You have to do it daily. This process
takes time to develop skillful eating.
How much time? We'll get to that soon.
30. 30
66 days for new habits
The diagram about rebirth symbolizes how we
become the food we eat.
But this doesn't happen overnight. It takes time.
Every hunger cycle is a symbolic rebirth. When
you start paying attention without guilt, every
hunger cycle your body knows what to eat
more of and what to eat less of.
This cycle is represented to the left. As you
notice what foods actually 'reward' you then
you naturally start craving them. Just like
toothpaste!
Yet really getting skillful with bodily awareness
means you build the habit of becoming aware
of your hunger cycle.
And habits take about 66 days to build. A lot of
programs like Whole 30 or other self-help
programs say habits only take a few weeks or
30 days.
But that's not what scientific research indicates.
The study to the left, from the University of
London, indicates that creating new habits
takes around 66 days.

Timeline
So generally speaking people
follow a similar pattern. The
first half of the journey is
about unlearning dieting
beliefs. These are Steps 1-4.
Step 1: Begin the journey
Step 2: Master Hunger
Step 3: Face Food Freedom
Step 4: Learn Fullness Skills
After unlearning dieting and
mastering weight loss skills,
you become ready for the
most difficult part of all...
Step 5: Overcome Emotional
Eating
Step 6: Becoming an
Enlightened Eater and
making peace with your
body
Step 7: Returning to the world
and seeing the truth of long-
term weight loss

I invite you to schedule a conversation with me too!
As you can tell I am super nerdy and love talking about this whole
enlightened weight loss.
Let's see how we can work together and get you to a balanced,
easy relationship with food and lose a few pounds in the process:
https://WeightLossEnlightenment.com/FreeStrategySession
Enlightened Conclusion
You can eat food without restriction! Remember
the paradox of weight loss enlightenment.
Realize how JUST DO IT is a failure. Realize why JUST
DO IT triggers your body into stress mode and
causes you to overeat and feel guilty. Realize
dieting never works long-term.
Instead, start listening to your body throughout the
hunger cycle. Take careful note of what foods feel
good to you.
Be careful to not fall into emotional eating (you
must learn to handle your emotions in other ways
besides food) and be similarly wary about getting
too concerned about nutrition.
Then, be patient for about 2-3 months. You must
bring awareness to your eating habits and do so
consistently for awhile before you really start feeling
comfortable with food. My 8 week course trains
people to learn these skills and become more
aware.
As you bring awareness you'll start simultaneously
learn how to talk to yourself with compassion, enjoy
foods, eat nutritiously and really just have an easy
going relationship with food.
