Symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes in Women – Full Overview
Categories:

by admin
13. Here we will provide full overview of symptoms of type 2 diabetes in women so that you
should be aware of it.
Symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes in Women Overview:
You know there are different types of symptoms of Type 2 diabetes in Women, but most women
have no idea they have the disease. The main reason for this is that the blood sugar levels rise at
a slow rate, making it difficult for them to detect if there’s anything wrong. Most of them end up
developing different health problems by the time they are diagnosed with the disease. For this
reason, it is important to check out the different types of symptoms of Type 2 diabetes in women.
What Are The Symptoms of type 2 diabetes in women:
Feeling thirsty
Having to urinate more than usual
Feeling more hungry than usual
Losing weight without trying to
Feeling very tired.
Feeling cranky
Other signs of type 2 diabetes may include:
Infections and cuts and bruises that heal slowly
Blurred vision
Tingling or numbness in your hands or feet
Trouble with skin, gum, or bladder infections
Vaginal yeast infections
14. Some people have already developed more serious health problems by the time they are
diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Over time, diabetes can lead to problems with the eyes, kidneys,
heart, blood vessels, and nerves. Signs of these problems may include:
Numbness, tingling, burning pain, or swelling in your feet or hands, Blurred or distorted vision
or seeing flashes of light, seeing large, floating red or black spots, or seeing large areas that look
like floating hair, cotton fibers, or spider webs (diabetic retinopathy), chest pain or shortness of
breath, this may be a sign of heart or blood vessel problems.
Type 2 Diabetes in Women Symptoms Explained:
One of the most common symptoms of Type 2 diabetes in women is increased thirst, coupled
with frequent urination. This comes about when the sugar in the blood increases, leading to
pulling of fluids from the tissues. The women will end up feeling thirsts, and the more water they
drink, the more they will urinate. They will also experience vaginal yeast infections or infections
in the bladder.
Apart from the thirst, victims will also feel hungry. The hunger is caused by the lack of adequate
insulin to move the sugar into the body cells, resulting to depletion of energy in the organs and
the cells. This leads to other symptoms of Type 2 diabetes in women, including weight loss even
when they have eaten more than usual to relieve the hunger. The inability of the body to
metabolize glucose forces it to use alternative sources of fuel found in fats and fuels, leading to
loss of calories as more glucose is excreted through urine.
Women suffering from Type 2 diabetes will also display symptoms such as fatigue, due to the
deprivation of sugar in the cells, and at times they might be highly irritable. Blurred vision is also
one of the symptoms of Type 2 diabetes in women resulting from increased blood sugars. As the
blood sugar increases, the fluid in the eyes’ lenses will be pulled, thus affecting their ability to
focus clearly.
15. Other symptoms of type 2 diabetes in women
Other signs and symptoms of Type 2 diabetes in women include frequent infections or sores that
take a long time to heal. Some women will also experience dark patches on their skin, especially
in areas that fold or crease. This condition is called acanthosis nigricans and signifies insulin
resistance.
Once these symptoms of Type 2 diabetes in women are displayed, it is important to visit the
doctor immediately. They should also give details of the symptoms so that the doctors can make
the necessary arrangements for the testing of the blood sugar levels and appropriate treatments.
So it’s better to go to the doctor when you see the symptoms of type 2 diabetes in women as
mentioned above.

Hepatitis C Virus Infection Increases Risk Of
Type 2 Diabetes
19. Patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection who are 40 years of age or
older have three times the risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared
with their uninfected counterparts, as per a report in the recent issue of
Diabetes Care.
"HCV is a diabetogenic agent that by means of increasing insulin
resistance strongly predisposes infected patients to type 2 diabetes," Dr.
Rafael Simo from Hospital Vall d'Hebron, Barcelona, Spain told Reuters
Health. Dr. Simo and his colleagues reviewed the available evidence
concerning the epidemiological association between HCV infection and
diabetes.
In all studies that contained a control group, there was a higher prevalence
of HCV antibodies among patients with type 2 diabetes than among
nondiabetic patients, the authors report. This was not the case for patients
with type 1 diabetes.
Similarly, data from the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination
Survey (NHANES III) confirmed a three-fold increased risk of type 2
diabetes in patients who were at least 40 years old and infected with
HCV. Again, the results indicate, there was no association between HCV
infection and type 1 diabetes.
In other studies, HCV-positive patients with chronic hepatitis were three
times as likely to have glucose abnormalities, compared with HCV-
negative subjects with other liver diseases. Diabetes and impaired fasting
glucose were also more common among patients with anti-HCV
antibodies.
Research examining the mechanisms linking HCV infection and type 2
diabetes effectively ruled out autoimmunity, iron overload, and direct
damage to pancreatic beta cells. Instead, insulin resistance mediated by
proinflammatory cytokines appears to be the main pathogenic mechanism.
20. "Taking into account the clear association between HCV infection and the
development of diabetes, and given that HCV is a very prevalent disease
affecting approximately 3% of the world's population, it is possible that
HCV infection is contributing to the increasing prevalence of type 2
diabetes," Dr. Simo said.
Because HCV infection can be considered a risk factor for diabetes,
screening to detect diabetes and pre-diabetic conditions (impaired fasting
glucose or impaired glucose tolerance) should be done at least every 3
years, Dr. Simo advised.
Dr. Simo also cited results of recent studies by his group indicating that
successful therapy of HCV infection can prevent the subsequent
development of type 2 diabetes.

About Diabetes
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM)
What is Type 2 Diabetes? Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disease that affects the body’s
ability to turn food into energy. Normally, after eating, sugar in the form of glucose from the food enters the
bloodstream. The hormone Insulin, released from the pancreas in response to the rising levels of glucose in the
bloodstream, is responsible for transporting the glucose into the body’s cells, to be used as fuel. Other hormones
produced by the gastric system such as GLP-1 also play a part in controlling glucose metabolic processes.
In Type 2 Diabetes, the body does not respond well to insulin. As a result, the cells cannot absorb the glucose
properly and it remains and builds up in the bloodstream and damages the inner lining of the small blood vessels.
Uncontrolled diabetes may lead to blindness, limb amputation, kidney failure, and nerve damage. Diabetes is also a
prominent factor in accelerating the hardening and narrowing of the arteries (atherosclerosis), leading to stroke, heart
disease, and other small blood vessel disorders.
The following diagram describes the damaged metabolic process in Type 2 Diabetes:
24. How common is it? With diabetes prevalence rates doubling between 1990 and 1995, the American Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has just declared that we are facing a diabetes epidemic. The diabetes
epidemic has struck worldwide. More than 285 million people across the world suffer from diabetes, 90% of whom
have Type 2 Diabetes. It is estimated that by the year 2030 438 million people will be inflicted with diabetes
worldwide, profoundly increasing the need for treatment for type 2 diabetes. In the United States, CDC projects that
by 2050 one in three individuals will be diagnosed with diabetes. In Europe, there are 55 million diabetics, and by
2030 this number is expected to grow to 66 million. Russia and Germany lead in European diabetes prevalence with
9.6 million and 7.5 million diabetics respectively.
Diabetes is also becoming a major health concern in Asia with over 90 million diabetics in China and 50 million in
India.
What Causes Diabetes? A number of lifestyle factors are known to contribute to the development of Type 2
Diabetes. Excess weight, defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or more, leading an inactive lifestyle, having
abnormal cholesterol and blood lipids, high blood-pressure and smoking are all factors that increase the risk of
developing Type 2 Diabetes.
25. What are the initial symptoms? About one out of three people with Type 2 Diabetes don’t know they have it and
therefore are not even receiving treatment. One of the first symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes may be an increase in
thirst. This is often accompanied by additional symptoms, such as dry mouth, increased appetite, frequent urination,
and unusual weight loss or gain. Additional symptoms may include headaches, blurred vision, fatigue, and troubling
infections such as cuts and sores that are slow to heal or frequent yeast infections.
