Montreal Canadiens Rivals
Boston Bruins, Buffalo sabres, and Toronto Maple
Canadiens vs. Bruins
The rivalry between the Canadiens vs Bruins is tagged as “one of the greatest rivalries in sports", comparable to that of the Yankees vs Red Sox rivalry and Bears vs
Packers rivalry. These two NHL rivals have fought each other many times already in both regular season and playoffs. Based on the NHL statistics for the 2010-2011
season, the Bruins have won 259 of these matches, scoring a total of 1,885 goals against the Canadiens. The Canadiens for their part won 343 of them, scoring a total
of 2,160 goals against the Bruins. In the NHL playoffs these two NHL teams fought 33 series for a total of 164 games. In the crucial Game seven, these two fierce rivals
have met each other eight times already.
Canadiens vs. Sabres
The Canadiens and Sabres have been fierce rivals since 1970 when the Sables entered the National Hockey League. These two rivals have face each other seven times
in NHL playoffs where the Canadiens won four times and the Sabres three times. The two had colorful playoffs matches in the past. In 1993 the Canadiens swept the
Sabres in their playoff match-up where they end up as Stanley Cup champion that year. However, the Sabres got their revenge in 1998 when they became the first team
in NHL history to complete a four game sweep of the Canadiens on Montreal ice.
Canadiens vs. Maple Leafs
The rivalry of the Canadiens and Maple is considered as one of the oldest in the history of the National Hockey League. These two NHL rivals have faced each other 15
times since 1944-78. These two NHL teams have also faced each other five times in the Stanley Cup. The rivalry of these two teams could also be due to the fact that
these two cities are two of the largest metropolis in Canada.
