DATA SHEET
At a Glance
APIs are becoming ubiquitous as enterprises increasingly need to open up to mobile devices, cloud-based services,
partners and third-party developers. CA API Developer Portal provides a single solution that can not only accommodate
internal API initiatives to empower in-house developers, but can also act as the cornerstone of external API initiatives
(partner access, cloud integration, mobile enablement etc.). By eliminating the need to deploy multiple solutions from
multiple vendors, CA API Developer Portal can greatly reduce technology acquisition costs, infrastructure requirements
and maintenance overhead.
Business Challenges
Opening on-premises data and applications to third parties. Opening on-premises
data and applications to third parties via APIs raises a range of serious security concerns.
Additionally, API publishing creates challenges around ensuring scalability and manageability
as adoption grows and adapting data for consumption by a range of constituents.
Developer management. Managing third-party and internal developers also creates a
management issue. The enterprise must engage, enroll, educate and manage developers
that aren’t bound to programming standards, specific coding languages or even security
protocols. Implementing a solution that eases onboarding and provides a single, central
point from which to communicate and manage all stakeholders can be a difficult task,
as can providing the appropriate educational resources that can be easily managed by
the enterprise.
Solution Overview
CA API Developer Portal lets enterprises empower developers to build mobile, Web and
other applications that support individual business unit goals, extend overall market reach
and grow revenues. It allows enterprises to supply developers with the tools they need to
create apps that generate real value, at a lower cost than traditional design time solutions.
CA API Developer Portal developer management functionality makes it simple to:
•	Understand who is using which APIs and what apps are being built
•	Track which APIs are providing the best ROI
•	Group and package APIs for easier provisioning and management
•	Package APIs to simplify provisioning
•	Map out revenue potential from developers that use your APIs, using the included
Revenue Planner
•	Centralize internal communications to API owners, developers and their stakeholders
•	Create forums that help stakeholders to collaborate around APIs
•	Throttle and shape access to APIs from different constituents
•	Allow developers to directly access Portal WADLs and WSDLs from within SoapUI NG Pro
by using the SoapUI plugin
•	Automatically generate client-side code in the developer’s programming language
of choice
Key Benefits/Results
• Increased revenues. Expands market
reach to emerging platforms and more
mobile devices for monetizing APIs
• Decreased costs. Reduces technology costs
and increases efficiencies
• Improved customer satisfaction. Allows
your customers and partners to interact with
your organization from their device of choice
Key Features
• Addresses the requirements of each
stakeholder in an API purchasing
cycle (enterprise architect, security
architect, development manager, and
business manager).
• Addresses partner, developer, mobile
and cloud access with a single product
• Allows developers to publish and manage
SOAP services directly from portal
• Ability to publish and manage SOAP
services directly from portal
• Allows each business unit in an
organization to publish and manage its
own APIs on a single, central portal
• Allows developers to automatically
generate client-side code in their
programming language of choice
• Automatically creates interactive
documentation from industry-standard
WADL/RAML files
• Supports both external and internal
developer groups
• Supports localization support
• Supports SSO

• Allow registered developers to enroll their colleagues under their organization
• Enable developers to select a plan and be automatically provisioned for a bundle of APIs
Reporting • Measure API usage against quotas and track API hits/latency, etc.
• Measure application usage to answer the question: “Which of my applications is most popular?”
• Measure latency to answer the question: “What is my customer’s experience like?”
Documentation and
Resources
• Interactive API documentation, API explorer, example code and sample applications to help developers speed the creation of applications
• Provide announcements, developer support, FAQs and discussion forums to foster community among developers
Application Creation • Automatically generate client-side code in most popular programming languages, including JavaScript, node.js, Python, Ruby, PHP,
Objective C, Java™ and Curl
• Enable developers to add multiple APIs to an application with a single click
Account Management • Plans are provided to help you stratify developers into tiers
• Account managers can be assigned to help manage specific high-value partners
API Key Management • Optionally gate the generation of API keys/OAuth secrets for each developer application
• Create, assign, suspends and revoke API keys
Content Management System
Style Sheets • Leverage out-of-the-box templates for API documents, landing pages homepages, etc.
• Insert custom code on every page (for the purposes of creating interactivity, implementing Google Analytics, etc.)

Private Data • Associate API documents, forums and API explorer entries with a private API, allowing you to hide information from developers who
have not been granted access
Business Management
Account Plans • Define quotas, rate limits and APIs per tier, allowing you to impose coarse-grained controls per organization
• Filter users by account plan to quickly suspend or un-suspend accounts
API Plans • Define unique and/or standard plans for each API
