Challenges
Client needed a website and web platform for this new startup built from the ground
up, including a back-end administrator dashboard, user registration and account
management system, and database of private and public horse genetic profiles. Client
also needed a custom survey, robust learning center, and various front-end pages.
Solutions
Acted as website consultant throughout the ABQid startup accelerator for
UI/UX user flow and web standards, and built a custom survey for business
research purposes using HTML5, CSS3, jQuery, AJAX, and PHP.
The front-end portion of this responsive site was built using Bootstrap as the
framework and using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript/jQuery.
LESS and Gulp were used to make development cleaner and more efficient, and
GitHub was used for version control.
The back-end portion of the site was programmed using PHP connected to a
MySQL database.
JQuery and AJAX was used to communicate between the front-end and back-end
scripts.
A custom administrator dashboard and content management system was built
for management of the database of genetic profiles and content for the learning
center disease pages.
PayPal API was used to allow visitors to donate to the site, and donations were
tracked in the MySQL database (this feature was later removed).
Hosting setup and management services were provided for Amazon Web
Services.
Testing and debugging were performed throughout website development.
4. CHICAGO EVERGRANDE
Challenges
Client needed a new website for a real estate firm. This website required a custom
design, a robust content management system for future changes, multilingual
capabilities for five languages, the ability to search IDX for properties limited by certain
pre-determined filters, a blog updated from external RSS, a survey popup, and multiple
front-end pages.
Solutions
Project management services was provided to the client to ensure project ran
smoothly, milestones were delivered on time, and deliverables were of high
quality and according to client specifications. I determined what needed to be
done and what kinds of sub-contractors would be needed.
WordPress was used as the content management system, WPresidence was used
as the WordPress theme, dsIDXpress WordPress plugin was used for IDX
capabilities, the AutoBlog plugin was used to create new posts from external
RSS, Ninja popups plugin was used for the survey popup, and WPML
multilingual plugin was used for multilingual capabilities.
Custom programming was required to complete client specifications for user
saving of IDX properties, heavy modification of the WPresidence theme, survey
popup design, and language switcher dropdown for WPML.
I hired and managed the following types of sub-contractors: WordPress
developer (modified WordPress theme according to design and set up survey
popup and front-end pages), dsIDXpress contractor (set up and configured
dsIDXpress WordPress plugin), and WPML contractor (set up WPML
multilingual plugin and language switcher).
Hosting setup and transfer services were provided after site was complete to
move the site from the development to the production server.
Testing and debugging were performed throughout website development.
6. MANA DIGITAL
Challenges
Client is a local Albuquerque 3D and 2D artist and needed a new portfolio website. The
website required a simple, creative, and dynamic design that would draw attention to
the client’s artwork first and foremost. The client needed front-end pages for the gallery
and artwork pages as well as a contact page. The client also needed a content
management system that would allow easy updating of the gallery as the client creates
new portfolio items, as well as hosting and domain services.
Solutions
After speaking with the client and determining what was important to him in
this website, the design was created in Adobe Photoshop using web and
usability standards.
The design was created to be simple, creative, and dynamic that would draw
attention to the artwork and not detract from it. A dark design was used to allow
the colors of the artwork to stand out.
On the homepage, a large, dynamic slider displaying some of the artist’s work
was used.
On the gallery pages, a masonry gallery design was used as this is a more
interesting design than the standard grid design for galleries, and because the
artist’s work has different dimensions, perfect for a masonry design. The
individual artwork pages used large images to truly highlight the artist’s work.
WordPress was used as the content management system, and a premium,
responsive theme was used as a framework. The theme was modified according
to the design using HTML5 and CSS3.
The front-end pages were built using WordPress and Visual Composer, and
Adobe Photoshop was used to crop and re-size the original art files for web use.
Hosting and domain setup and management services were also provided.
8. KANATARA
Challenges
Kanatara is a local startup that needed a re-design and new features and processes for
the new vision of the company. The website required a simple design that allowed
users to quickly understand the company and navigate the various features.
The website needed an admin panel to allow administrative management of
communities, classes and groups, building partners, referral codes, flagged cases, bug
reports, and payment systems including transaction history and tax records.
The website also needed a messaging system, user registration and user accounts and
profiles, browse and search function for classes and groups, shopping cart and payment
system, the ability to create classes and groups by approved members, as well as
complete recordkeeping of all website activities. Finally, the website needed front-end
informational pages.
Solutions
I provided consulting services to the client to help determine an effective design
that would clarify the purpose of the company to first-time users, and that was
also simple for users to figure out from registration to site feature usage.
WordPress was used as the content management system, and a premium,
responsive theme was used as a framework. The theme was modified according
to the design using HTML5 and CSS3.
The front-end informational pages were built using WordPress. Custom menus
and custom page templates were built using PHP and WordPress Core
standards.
The custom, dynamic features of the site were built using PHP, MySQL, HTML5,
CSS3, Javascript/jQuery, and AJAX. Consultation services were provided to
determine optimal user and process flow.
An admin panel was built with all features listed above in Challenges.
A custom user registration system was built with different user roles, assignment
to Communities and ability to change Communities, referral code system, e-mail
confirmation, user profiles, account settings, and transaction history.
A messaging system was built to allow users to communicate with each other as
well as allow administrators to message all Community members or restricted to
certain user roles.
9. The class and group feature was built to allow users with full account
information to list a class or group after administrative approval. A Discover
page was built to allow users to browse classes and groups in their community
as well as filter and search for classes and groups.
Class and group pages were built with a rating and review system, ability to flag
listings as inappropriate, class/group dates and times, user capacity, cost, and
ability to add to shopping cart, description, and ticket system after payment.
The shopping cart and checkout system was built using PayPal API and PayPal
IPN, fine print agreement, credit refund system, tickets, teacher payment, and fee
and tax calculations.
Hosting and domain setup and management services were also provided.
GitHub was used for version control and separate development servers were
used to ensure smooth deployment of any updates and changes.
Testing and debugging were performed throughout website development.

Challenges
Client is a 501c3 incorporation firm that was a failing business with an old site that
needed a re-design and overhaul. Client also needed search engine optimization, setup
and management of Google AdWords and Google Analytics, setup of social media
accounts, and a referral system. Client needed creation of graphics for newsletters, e-
blasts, business cards, online ads, landing pages, referral marketing ads, and website
graphics.
Solutions
I provided consulting services to the client to help determine an effective,
modern, and professional design that would effectively give potential clients
information about the company and service and build trust. A separate mobile
design was also created.
WordPress was used as the content management system.
A premium WordPress theme was used as the framework and modified using
HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript/jQuery and the WordPress Core standards
according to the final design. A separate WordPress theme was built for the
mobile site and a custom WordPress plugin was built to switch between the
mobile and desktop site depending on the user device.
Custom functions built using HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript/jQuery, and AJAX
included a robust sign up/payment system (using PayPal API and PayPal API)
and a referral system that allowed users to register, log in, and generate referral
codes and HTML embed code for external websites. This referral system was also
built into the sign up system to allow discounts and tracking of referrals.
The front-end informational pages were built using WordPress and custom page
templates.
These pages were optimized for search engines using the Yoast SEO plugin and
through editing of the content for keyword optimization. Google Analytics was
added and monitored to tweak SEO.
Social media accounts were set up and linked to the website.
Google Adwords campaigns were set up to generate sales. Mobile and desktop
landing pages were designed and built with lead generation forms and tested
through A/B split testing processes to optimize conversion rates. Adwords
campaigns were managed and monitored to optimize click-through rate and
conversions and lower costs while increasing sales.
