2. What I know now that I didn’t
before.
Before I started this project I did not really know how to put a music
magazine together, I had a rough idea, but nothing solid, and as you
can see from my college magazine a rough idea was not enough to
make a magazine of quality, as the front page was basic and
abysmal, the contents page was just a heap of pictures and
words, there was no semblance of order. I also did not know how to
use Photoshop or InDesign, I learned the basics while creating the
college magazine, such as constructing the page, and using the borders
to your advantage, I did not know how to use any of the most useful
functions, such as the font manipulator, drop shadow or how to group
objects, I learned all of that while creating my music magazine. Again
with Photoshop I did not know many of the key features, I only knew
how to roughly cut out a model from a background, I did not know how
to effectively alter the picture. I learned all this while creating my music
magazine, and as you can see there is a large improvement over

Skills I have acquired
I have gained many skills while working on this project, many involving photography and
computer software.
I have gained the ability to put together an attractive magazine through the use of
photography and computer editing
I have learnt many photographic techniques, such as the juxtaposition and the rule of
thirds. This aided me while I was planning my photo-shoots
The ability to create unique effects through the use of Photoshop, by using features
such as altering the contrast, equipping a filter to the photo, or just by editing the
features of the models.
The ability to effectively build the magazine through the use of InDesign, by using
features such as the rectangle boxes to frame the magazine, as well as the page editor
to change the borders of the magazine to fit my needs.
I have also learnt about the various conventions needed when creating a music
magazine. Such as menu strips, anchorage, banners and many more, I have also
gained the ability to judge whether my magazine would require a certain convention or
not.

audience, such as through the use of social grades, interests and ps
4. How my music magazine compares with my
college magazine
There really is no question, my music magazine is far superior to my college
magazine, as with the music magazine I have decided what conventions to
use, how to organise the page, I have effectively manipulated certain
aspects of the magazine which improved the quality overall, such as the
much improved colour combinations, as well as the better fonts, combine
that with the fact that I know exactly how I want to represent my
audience, created a magazine, that although not bind blowing, is pretty
great. It has all the conventions I want and does portray the feeling I wanted
to create, a feeling of togetherness that people from the rock scene would
be able to identify with. My college magazine on he other hand, I have to
admit, failed completely, the front page is quite shocking when I go back to
it, I really have come along way, as the college magazine had absolutely no
sign of conventions, it was just my best guess on how to complete a college
magazine, my contents page, while still not good, at least has some
conventions, such as borders, page numbers, visuals, and in places rule of
third, it is not as big of a disaster as the front cover.
