2. Editing Lesson 5
In this lesson, I decided it would be time to start editing the
music video a lot more and get a grasp of what we wanted
the music video to be like. From the audience feedback we
previously received a lot of people enjoyed the introduction
that we created to the music video with the slow motion
running that builds up to a fast pace. However, I felt I
needed to add a bit more to the introduction via video
effects to give it greater build up. For the first clip I changed
the opacity down to 39 percent, which in effect altered the
brightness of the clip and made it seem quite dark, along
with putting a video filter on of black and white. Having
done this for the first clip I then decided to listen to the
song back in the first 30 seconds or so. It was clear that I
should continue this theme of darkness except for each
individual clip I should continue to make it brighter and
brighter as the running became faster and faster. I did this
by increasing the opacity by 20 percent each time until it
was at 100 and then gradually increasing the brightness by
about 10 on each clip. In the end this gave a good effect on
the clips and I am happy with the outcome of the
introduction of the music video in my first editing lesson.
3. Editing Lesson 6
For the next lesson, I decided that I would continue on
editing the music video and add to the introduction that
was created in the previous lesson. It took me a while to
figure out what I really wanted to get out of this lesson
when editing as I wasn’t sure what to do with the clips I
had after the introduction. After watching all of the clips
that we had recorded in the latest filming session we
decided that we wanted to create more of a build up once
again to go in correlation with the song. This time however,
instead of splitting the same shot to break it up, I decided
to vary it up a bit and fade one clip into another. The way I
did this was by placing the one clip of the actor sleeping in
the background and changed the opacity of the clip above
to 40 percent. As I did with the previous build up section I
faded the opacity out by taking it down by 10 percent or so
each time until more could be seen of him sleeping. This
way it would make it look like he is coming out of his
dream and is slowly beginning to wake up as the clips
begin to end. I also decided I wanted to do something out
of the norm of music videos for a part of this section I was
working on. In the music video, there is a shot that appears
of the actor watching Usain Bolt running. I thought it
would be clever to download the audio of that particular
video and play it as ambient music in the background of
the clip to give it more of an atmospheric feel to it.
4. Editing Lesson 7
In this lesson, I once again continued the
editing process of the music video.
Something I didn’t expect to encounter
though was a lack of shots for the idea I
was forming more so from the editing I
was doing up to this point. The song and
idea fits well together but its clear I need
a bit more shots to be recorded before
the music video has been edited fully
through the song from start to finish.
With this in mind, I will have to make
sure I record some extra shots that can
then be used in the music video in the
gap that I have shown in the screenshot.
I also need to make sure I include some
final training clips that we need to
rerecord due to the camera dying in the
first recording session, so this is
something that will have to be
addressed too.
5. Editing Lesson 8
Having decided that more filming would be required in order to
edit the music video further, I thought it would be a good idea to
add this into the production schedule and mention how more
time would be needed having edited through the music video so
far.
6. Editing Lesson 9
For this lesson, I decided to focus more
specifically on certain clips in editing the music
video. I thought it was a good idea to make sure
the brightness, contrast and colour settings for
each clip would allow for the best quality music
video depending on what I wanted to achieve.
For example, for flashback clips I wanted to
make sure that the brightness and colour
settings were appropriate for this being black
and white.
