The document outlines a proposal and work plan for a documentary about social activities available for Deaf and LGBTQ+ people in York. Over nine weeks, the student will research the topic, develop an initial plan, create interview scripts and storyboards, film locations around York and conduct interviews to include in the documentary. The goal is to show the need for more social opportunities in York and get feedback on experiences as a Deaf and LGBTQ+ person, with the hope of persuading viewers to support new clubs and spaces. The student will evaluate the project by getting feedback from viewers who are also Deaf and LGBTQ+.

Project proposal title and date:
What social activities are available for Deaf and LGBTQ+ people in York?
Main area of activity:
Documentary
Rationale: (Approx. 100 words)
I researched Deaf and LGBT social activities in York but I realised there is not enough information
because York is a small city, so groups are small. But I decided to interview some people who live
in York who are LGBTQ+ / and - or Deaf and some who also live outside of York but are either
deaf and or LGBTQ+. They will talk about their experiences being Deaf and LGBTQ+ in and
around York. The interviews are important because I want to show a need for social activities in
the city.
Project Concept: (Approx. 200 words)
My documentary will talk about Deaf and LGBTQ+ people in York and I would like my film to show
how much Deaf and LGBTQ+ people suffer from discrimination and homophobia. I will be asking 7
people to be interviewed. I have some important questions. I will be filming around York and will
‘drop’ the background images of the city onto a green screen. I will explain to my audience about
my life experience being Deaf and LGBTQ+. I want to persuade my audience to agree a building
new Deaf Club and LGBTQ+ nightclub in York because I want the same access as other cities. I
think the reason York only has a very small group of Deaf and LGBTQ+ community is because
people now use phone apps to meet up and not go into town.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed: (Approx. 50 words)
I will show my film to students who are both Deaf and LGBTQ+ and also to other students on my
course. I want to get feedback from my audience to see what they think about my film. That is
important to know what they want and I help me to create more interesting content for my FMP.
