Stage 2
Research + Experiments
Jack Bevens
Product 1
• I choose Lady GaGa’s video “Born This Way” because the camera had used movement and lots of
zooming. I would like my video to be similar to her video because I want my camera to have
movement and zooming.
• Also I do know how to use movement and zooming in the camera because I have created my short
films in the past, which means I know how to use it. But, I need more training with professional
zooming because when I zoomed in before the focus was blurry. I will focus when I am zooming in
and focus at the same time to make the focus more clear.
• I collected the images and the styles of movements by the camera. This will help me to know more
how to use the movements.
• The movements of the camera are important because I would like my video to be interesting and
amazing. For example: When I’ll use “Pan” which means the camera follows the actor who will pass
the camera or I’ll use “Tilt” when the actor will fall down to the floor and the camera will follow
the actor down to make my audience feel like they follow the actor.
• I will move the camera because I want the audience to be interested. I want my video have lots of
movement because I want my video be fun and able to make my audience feel like they want to
watch my video.
• If I don’t use any movements, it means my video can be boring. Also, this can make my audience
feel less enthusiastic and might not like to watch my video.
Product 2
• I choose Hayley Kiyoko’s video “Girls like Girls” because the song about lesbian
relationships. I chose it because the screen looks beautiful, pure and bright.
• I want my video to be similar to her video because I would like my video screen bright
and clear to make it look professional .
• I will use the studio lighting in my film. To be honest, I have never used the lighting
before but I need to get experience with the lighting, and get to know how to use it.
• The studio lights are important because I want to my screen a look clear. If I don’t use
the studio lights then my screen will look dark and messy. Also if my video screen does
not look professional then I need to use more lights to make it look better.
• The studio lights will be in lots of different places of the filming because the lights
always have to be behind the camera or beside the camera. When the camera moves to
different places and angles then the lights will follow the camera.
• I need to be careful with the studio lights because the lights have lots of wires and I
don’t want anyone tripping over it and getting hurt. Also if someone bumps into the
light then light might fall down and break.
Product 3
• I choose Sia’s video “The Greatest” because they have the group performance. They have
amazing facial expressions and their body language is over the top.
• I want to my video to be similar to her video because I would like to my actors to use lots of
facial expressions and their body language to be over the top. That is important for the Deaf
because the Deaf need to watch my video with facial expressions to help to make it more
understandable.
• I am sure some Deaf actors can be very over the top because Deaf people naturally use great
facial expressions and body language, that is Deaf culture.
• I want my actors have fantastic over the top expressions like happy, sad, laugh, cry, and
others too. I would like my video to have amazing facial expressions to make my audience
exclaim and be attracted to watching my video. If my actors don’t have any facial expressions
then it might make the audience feel uncomfortable.
• If some of the actors struggle at the beginning of the film then I will help them to warm up
and use ice-breakers because the facial expressions are important in my video and the facial
expressions are the most important thing and shows Deaf awareness.
• If some of my hearing class mate are in the film then I will help to them to use facial
expressions because I know some hearing people don’t use facial expressions and feel shy
about using them.
Genre and artist breakdown
• Think about the conventions of music video and which of these you
feel are the most appropriate for you video and why
• Think about the genre characteristics for your chosen artist – how do
you plan to employ these?
• Which techniques and styles do you think fans of your chosen genre
prefer? What should you expect to see in that type of music video?
• Use the following slides to show your ideas and explain these using
good illustrative examples – this is where your research and
explorations should start. Remember to consider the aspects we
looked at in class [and the academic things from Goodwin, etc].
Conventions
• My video will be appropriate for the my LGBT audience because my video had a show our
support to LGBT community.
• I don’t want a depression song because most of the other LGBT songs had depressions. Others
songs to show the parents throw the children out of the house, the bullies fights to them, some
people rejects to them and have more others. It’s can make the audience feel low confident
and worried.
• I was degree with others song because all the LGBTs songs are depressions. Also only few the
songs have little bit funny bit not full the video because there still have depression. I have to
decide to create my video is comedy LGBT song.
• I will created my video have more funny because I want to my audience feel more confident
and comfortable. That is important because I don’t want to all LGBT have suffer mental heath
from depressions. My video help to my audience will feel freedom from mental health and
depressing. I am sure my video will be first time for comedy LGBT music video.
• My video can allowed to my audience who is under 15 because from now lots of LGBTs under
15 and I would like to them to watch my video. My video won’t have any swear or rude
because I don’t like to make to my audience who haven’t come out will feel awkward and
uncomfortable. I need to make sure my video is suitable with my audience age.
• My video are appropriate for me because I am open minded person and I’m always funny
person. I would like to encourage to my audience to able come out when after they watch my
video.
• Also, I want to show my support to my audience for my actor will wear drag queen clothes
because the drag belong to LGBTs and it’s can make the my audience feel not alone. The actor
wear the drag queen link to funny song.
Genre Chacteristics
• My video will be Pop because I researched Lady GaGa’s video and Sia’s
video and both of them have same as Pop genre. I would like to similar to
their videos because their song link my idea for LGBT music video.
• I decide to genre characteristics is Pop because I know the pop is most of
young to attracting the music video. So, I will create my video will be
include pop because my audience have most of young LGBTs.
• I choose the Pop because I want to my video have bright lighting and
colourful costume because I want the colourful costume for show how
proud the LGBT rainbows. That is important to me because I want to show
my audience to know the rainbows is means LGBTs.
• My video pop will have a part of romantic because I want to give to my
young audience feel in love experience.
• I want to my video have part of good looking but I don’t need it because I
want to show to my audience no matter good or bad looking and remind
them that the personality is important to love.
• I don’t need close up because my video had full BSL (British Sign Language)
and if I use close up and my audience will can’t see the signs. I’m prefer
other shots like long and medium shots more easy to see the signs.

  • 1. Stage 2 Research + Experiments Jack Bevens
  • 2. Product 1 • I choose Lady GaGa’s video “Born This Way” because the camera had used movement and lots of zooming. I would like my video to be similar to her video because I want my camera to have movement and zooming. • Also I do know how to use movement and zooming in the camera because I have created my short films in the past, which means I know how to use it. But, I need more training with professional zooming because when I zoomed in before the focus was blurry. I will focus when I am zooming in and focus at the same time to make the focus more clear. • I collected the images and the styles of movements by the camera. This will help me to know more how to use the movements. • The movements of the camera are important because I would like my video to be interesting and amazing. For example: When I’ll use “Pan” which means the camera follows the actor who will pass the camera or I’ll use “Tilt” when the actor will fall down to the floor and the camera will follow the actor down to make my audience feel like they follow the actor. • I will move the camera because I want the audience to be interested. I want my video have lots of movement because I want my video be fun and able to make my audience feel like they want to watch my video. • If I don’t use any movements, it means my video can be boring. Also, this can make my audience feel less enthusiastic and might not like to watch my video.
  • 3. Product 2 • I choose Hayley Kiyoko’s video “Girls like Girls” because the song about lesbian relationships. I chose it because the screen looks beautiful, pure and bright. • I want my video to be similar to her video because I would like my video screen bright and clear to make it look professional . • I will use the studio lighting in my film. To be honest, I have never used the lighting before but I need to get experience with the lighting, and get to know how to use it. • The studio lights are important because I want to my screen a look clear. If I don’t use the studio lights then my screen will look dark and messy. Also if my video screen does not look professional then I need to use more lights to make it look better. • The studio lights will be in lots of different places of the filming because the lights always have to be behind the camera or beside the camera. When the camera moves to different places and angles then the lights will follow the camera. • I need to be careful with the studio lights because the lights have lots of wires and I don’t want anyone tripping over it and getting hurt. Also if someone bumps into the light then light might fall down and break.
  • 4. Product 3 • I choose Sia’s video “The Greatest” because they have the group performance. They have amazing facial expressions and their body language is over the top. • I want to my video to be similar to her video because I would like to my actors to use lots of facial expressions and their body language to be over the top.
