Class Description:

This class is an elective science course for Frederick High School students. It consists of an
introductory investigation of the concepts and principles of Physics, including Newton’s Laws of
Motion and the Conservation of Energy and Momentum. The student will learn to apply
scientific deduction and reasoning to physical cases in the laboratory setting. A variety of
instructional strategies will attempt to address various learning styles and engage students in
learning through exploration, written and oral communications and modeling.

Textbook: Conceptual Physics - Pearson

Class Structure:

Grading Policy:
Your course and term grades will be calculated on the following percentages in the following categories:
                                        Tests w/Problem Sets 40%
                                        Laboratories/Projects 25%
                                               Quizzes 25%
                                       Homework/Class work 10%
  Grades will be available online to parents and students and will be updated weekly. If you do not have
       internet service at home, you may request a grade print out from me once every two weeks.

•   Homework will be assigned on a regular basis and it will be checked on the assigned due
    date (usually the following day). Late homework will NOT be accepted.

•   Quizzes will be given 2-3 times per week reviewing the information covered in the previous
    classes as well as the homework.

•   Lab Reports will be assigned upon the completion of each experiment. Students will receive
    a detailed rubric detailing how the reports will be graded.

•   Problem Sets: 50 point problem sets will be assigned with each unit to be combined with
    the Unit Test grade.

•   Tests will be given every two weeks, usually on a Tuesday.

Make Up Policy:

•   If you are absent the day of a test, you will be required to take the test on the day of your
    return.
•   If you are absent due to illness, in-school suspension, field trip etc., it is your responsibility to
    request and complete each assignment.
•   For each day absent, you are allowed one day to make up any assignments.
