•   Reread the essay: designate a spokesman and a documenter.
•   Answer the following questions: 1. What are the case studies Ehrenreich uses?
•   2. Test the credibility of the sources. What is the same/different about her examples?
•   3. State in one sentence the thesis of the essay.
•   4. What does Ehrenreich leave out of her argument?

BETWEEN WORLDS POETRY… BRIEFING
•   What is a standout poem, in your opinion? Explain.
•   Billy Collins “The Lanyard” and Philip Dacey’s “Coke” are ironic voices: does this diminish
    the work, or enliven it? Explain.
•   Janice Mirikitani’s “ Breaking Tradition” and Yusef Komanyakaa’s “Facing It” are quite
    serious, somber: how is the tone established, sustained, & makes it effective?
•   “Mr Z” and “Blue Spruce” are based on a male perspective: compare/contrast.
•   Begin to choose which poem/poet you are interested in studying further. You will use this
    for your poetry paper.

What are the case studies Ehrenreich uses? • 2. Test the credibility of the sources. What is the same/different about her examples? • 3. State in one sentence the thesis of the essay. • 4. What does Ehrenreich leave out of her argument?

Explain. • Billy Collins “The Lanyard” and Philip Dacey’s “Coke” are ironic voices: does this diminish the work, or enliven it? Explain. • Janice Mirikitani’s “ Breaking Tradition” and Yusef Komanyakaa’s “Facing It” are quite serious, somber: how is the tone established, sustained, & makes it effective? • “Mr Z” and “Blue Spruce” are based on a male perspective: compare/contrast. • Begin to choose which poem/poet you are interested in studying further.
