New – New Pentagram publication day
Starting July 3, the Pentagram newspaper will publish Thursdays. Accordingly,
all deadlines for content submission have also changed. Further, requests for Pentagram
2. coverage must be made no later than noon, Mondays, for publication in the following
week's edition. Content such as articles, commentaries and photographs submitted for
consideration of Pentagram publication must be submitted at least two weeks in
advance. News notes submissions must be submitted no later than noon, Wednesday
for consideration of publication in the following week's edition. More details on
submitting news notes can be found on page 5 of the Pentagram.
U.S. Army Soldier Show at Fort Belvoir June 16-17
Save the date for the U.S. Army Soldier Show, coming to Fort Belvoir’s Wallace
Theater June 16 and 17. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. and doors open at 6:30 p.m. No
tickets are issued for this event so seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
JBM-HH Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation will provide a 55 passenger
bus to the June 17 show on Fort Belvoir. The bus will depart the Bowling Center, Bldg.
411 at 5:30 p.m. seating on the bus is first-come, first-served for active duty personnel.
You must present a valid ID to ride the bus.
This year’s show pays tribute to the 200th anniversary of Francis Scott Key's
writing of the poem that became our national anthem, and ties in the overarching

Henderson Hall Marine Corps Ball Committee to host lunch
The Marine Corps Ball Committee is hosting a fish fry lunch June 19 at 11 a.m. in
Bldg. 29. All donations go toward this year’s Marine Corps Ball fund.
Army Birthday 5K Run/1 mile walk on JBM-HH June 20
The U.S. Army Birthday 5K Run/ 1 mile walk is scheduled for June 20 at 7 a.m.
beginning at the Summerall Field parking lot. Runners must be staged with their
respective units by 6:30 a.m.
The uniform is the summer Army Improved Physical Fitness Uniform, no
reflective belts. The recommended dress for civilians is light colored shirt (white or light
gray) with dark colored shorts (black or dark gray). Absolutely no headphones or other
audio players will be allowed on the course. All participants must have their DOD ID to
participate.
This run is a formation run and runners will form up with their respective units.
The formation pace will be approximately 10 minutes per mile and the route will take
run participants through Arlington National Cemetery and the joint base.
In the event of bad weather, a weather call will be made the morning of the event
and will be announced on the JBM-HH Facebook page, www.facebook.com/jbm-hh.

Army Birthday cake cutting and meal open to all
The 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment “The Old Guard” will host an Army Birthday
cake cutting ceremony celebrating the 239th birthday of the U.S. Army June 20 at 11 a.m.
3. in the Consolidated Dining Facility. After the ceremonial cake-cutting, there will be a
holiday surf and turf meal served open to all.
The cost of the meal is $7.70; however there is a discounted rate for dependents
of E-4 and below only of $6.55. This event is CASH ONLY. No credit/ debit cards or
checks will be accepted.

Dive-In Movie Night is back
JBM-HH Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation “Dive-In Movie” nights are
back again this year at the Fort Myer Officers Club pools. Join us for our first showing
of the season June 21. We will be showing “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatball – 2,”
rated PG. Gates open at 8:15 p.m. and showtime is 9 p.m.
Admission is free, but audience members must provide their own floatation –
lounge rafts or inner tubes only. In the event of severe weather and/or high winds,

4.5K Run and 2.5K Walk scheduled for June 27
The Air Operation Group is hosting a 4.5K Run and 2.5K Walk June 27 at 6:35
a.m. on the Fort McNair portion of the joint base. The run/walk begins and ends at
Bldg. 18.
In support of the run/walk, B Street between 4th Avenue and 5th Avenue will be
closed between 4:30 and 8:30 a.m.

JBM-HH Army Ten-Miler Team qualifier series
The second JBM-HH Army Ten-Miler 10K Qualifiers will be Friday, July 18 at
6:35 a.m. at the Fort Myer Fitness Center, Bldg. 414. Registration and participation is
FREE. Registration is available online at www.jbmhhmwr.com or the morning of the
qualifier from 5:30 to 6:15 a.m. at the fitness center.
FMWR has 40 slots for this year’s Army Ten-Miler October 12. To be eligible for
a space on this year’s JBM-HH ATM Team, runners must be Active Duty. If selected as
member of the JBM-HH Team, FMWR pays your entry into the 2014 Army Ten Miler.
The last JBM-HH ATM 10K Qualifier will be Friday, August 1, after which the
team will be formed.

4. Firecracker 5K Twinkie Challenge July 3
Registration is now open for the next run in the JBM-HH Commanders Race
series – the Firecracker 5K Twinkie Challenge. The race is scheduled for July 3 at the
Fort Myer Officers Club at 6:35 a.m. This race will be a 5K, but will also incorporate an
eating challenge of six Twinkies at the half-way mark.
Awards will be presented to the top male and female finishers (runners will eat
six Twinkies at the 2.5K mark). There will also be prizes for the craziest individual
costume, craziest couples costume and craziest group (three or more) costume.

Home-buying seminar offered June 18
A free home-buying seminar is being offered June 18 from noon to 1:30 in the
Community Activities Center on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base. This class will
offer subject matter experts who will discuss Veterans Affairs benefits, mortgages and
settlement for buying and selling a home. Come and enjoy a free lunch and learn more

New Evening Classes on Communication
The Military Family Life Counselor Program at MCCS Henderson Hall holds
summer evening classes open to military ID card holders. All classes are held in Marine

and topics are: June 18, Assertiveness Communication, which will examine how voice

Presidential Salute Battery drills being conducted
The 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) Presidential Salute Battery will
be conducting crew drills, which includes the firing of blank rounds, every Tuesday
morning from 7-8 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery. This is a reoccurring event,
which will occur every Tuesday unless mission dictates that it be cancelled. For more

Play Morning (Outdoor)
This playgroup is for preschool age children to provide time for play, physical
activity and socialization for parents. Play morning is scheduled for June 18, and 25
from 10 to 11:30 a.m. We will meet at the playground (Virginia Highlands Park, 1600

This class will provide an overview of developmental milestones for children

MCCS Offers New Community Counseling Program
The new Community Counseling Program is designed to provide increased
access to counseling for Marines, sailors, and their families, and to focus on screening,
prevention, and intervention of stressors and problems to improve readiness and
quality of life. We offer individual, couple, family, child, and group counseling services.
All counselors are independently licensed and credentialed professionals who can work
with you to develop a plan and find solutions to meet your needs and help you

ACAP supports spouses in transition
Army Career and Alumni Program offers services to the spouses of military
personnel who are transitioning: both retiring or ETSing (Expiration of Term in Service).
Some of the services offered to transitioning spouses include one-on-one assistance
with a resume, a Veterans Affairs benefits briefing, Department of Labor Employment
Workshop (includes the interview process, dress for success, building a resume, salary
negotiation) and financial planning.

Anger Management workshops offered
Marine & Family Programs offers anger management workshops weekly,
Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. The workshops are designed to teach eight tools for
managing anger. Participants may start at any time, but must attend all eight sessions to
receive a certificate of completion.
Sessions are in Building 12’s conference room on the Henderson Hall portion of the
joint base. The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members, and

7. Stress workshops held Tuesdays
Marine & Family Programs offers workshops on coping with work and family stress
on an ongoing basis. The 12-session, evidence-based series, designed to teach strategies
for dealing with stressors, is held Tuesdays, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., in Bldg. 12’s conference
room on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. Topics include identifying
stressors, deep breathing and muscle relaxation, assertive communication, changing
yourself talk, eating right, exercise and developing a personal stress management plan.
The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members and military
retirees.

New – Summerall Field parking lot closed June 19 at 9 p.m.
The Summerall Field parking lot will be closed June 19 at 9 p.m. until after the
Army Birthday Run June 20 is complete. All vehicles still in the parking lot after 9 p.m.
on the 19th will be towed at the owner’s expense.
Additional parking lots to be closed for VIP parking in support of the Army
Birthday run include the Officers Club parking lot, Caisson parking lot and Regimental
parking lot.

The Army Birthday Run will be held on JBM-HH June 20, departing from
Sheridan Avenue, adjacent to Summerall Field parking lot at 7 a.m. The run will travel
through parts of the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH and Arlington National Cemetery.

Temporary road closure on Fort Myer portion of joint base
McNair Road from the intersection of Lee Avenue to Marshall Drive on the Fort
Myer portion of the joint base is closed, to include pedestrian and bicyclists, until
further notice due to road damage.
