3. Nakheel: Where Vision Inspires Humanity
The focus within NAKHEEL strategic long
term plan to achieve ‘Sustainable communities’
in Dubai is key to understanding how the ‘Social
Dimension’ of investment projects must be
considered alongside economic and environmental
dimensions within a Triple Bottom Line Approach
incorporating the following:
1- The economic dimensions to sustainability
2- Social dimensions to sustainability
3- Environmental dimensions to sustainability
Measuring ‘social sustainability’ is fraught with difficulty, but ensuring urban
renewal projects incorporate the right balance of social capital and appropriate
mix of tenures, income and age groups, allied with supporting infrastructure, is
vital if the visions of Nakheel’s Cohesion Policy is to be realised.
5. Nakheel: Where Vision Inspires Humanity
NAKHEEL has always been on the path following locally and internationally recognized development
design offering tremendous opportunities for achieving environmentally friendly communities‘, hence
achieving pollution prevention and Client satisfaction. This is expedited through integration of
environmental requirements into the earliest stages of community development.
Accordingly, it can provide significant sustainable benefits including enhanced “Asset Management”
through efficiency, reduced liabilities, and enhanced competitiveness, this can only be achieved if the
following is followed, such as;
• Renewable Energy: A ’myth-busting review of options for providing clean energy to community buildings
• Green Specification: Outlines the principles that applies when specifying materials in design for construction
• Operational Management : Improve sustainability detailed techniques for meeting current and future waste minimizing during the
development and refurbishment processes
• Costs Analysis: An overview of the cost implications of designing and building sustainably
• Sustainability and Property Worth 1: Investigates the benchmarking options, operational and value based method
