2. Frames
Definition:
The Frames is that portion of
the spectacles that holds the
lenses, containing the
ophthalmic prescription, in their
proper position in front of the
eyes .
3. Frame Parts
1. A Frames are generally consist of the front, which is one form.
2. Temples are another part, which is attached to the front and
hook over the ears to help hold the spectacles in place.

Frame front Parts
That area of frame front between the lenses that rests on the nose is
bridge.
The hinges hold the temples to the front.
Nose pads ,which are plastic pieces that rest on the nose to Support the
frame
6. Frames Type
There are Different types of frame type:
Metal Frame:
Plastic Frame
Combination Frame
7. Metal:
Metal frames are those made up of all metal parts ,except for the nose
pads and posterior temple section which are plastic covered. The eye wire
complete around the lens.
Plastic Frame:
• Plastic frames are made up of a plastic material.
• Sometimes plastic frames are referred as shell frames.
• Another general term for plastic frame is Zyl Frames since zylonite was
commonly use for their manufacturer.
Combination Frame:
These are common frames having a metal chassis and plastic top rims and
temples.
8. Bridge
That area of frame front between the lenses that rests on the nose is
bridge.
Plastic Frame :
Plastic frames are constructed so that the bridge area is
performed & sets directly bridge of nose.
Metal Frame:
Metal frames are constructed with metal saddle Bridge.
9. Types of Bridge:
Saddle Bridge:
Shape like a saddle in a smooth curve and follow the bridge of the nose
smoothly.
This spreads the weight of the frame evenly over the sides and the crest of
the nose
10. Modified Saddle Bridge
Modified Saddle also Known as
Semi-Saddle.
The bridge Looks much same as
saddle from the front.
But the different is nose pads are
attached to the back of the bridge
and carry some of the weight of the
frame.
11. Keyhole Bridge:
The shape of the keyhole
bridge looks like an old
fashioned keyhole.
At the top ,flares out slightly
and will rest on the sides of the
nose but not on the crest .
Most keyhole bridge utilize
nose pads to help support the
frame.
12. Temple
Temples is attached to the front and hook over the ears to help hold the
spectacles in place.
Parts of Temple:
Butt: Attachment to the front.
Bend :first bend to go over the ear.
Shaft: Portion Between butt end & bend.
Ear Piece: Portion beyond the ear piece.
13. Temple Types:
Skull Temple:
It bend down behind the ear and follow the contour of the skull, resting evenly against
it.
Library Or Spatula :
They are also known as straight back temple.
They are practically straight and hold the glasses on primarily by pressure
against side of the head.
14. Riding Bow Temple:
It curve around the ear ,following the crotch of the ear where the ear and head
meet and extend to the level of the ear lobe.
Comfort Cable:
Same as riding bow temple.
Metal construction with curl or ear portion.
