Welcome
From the Editor
www.iao.org
he autumn has arrived and summer is about to pass,
thus, we wish our readers a very happy cool autumn.
Together we are having a wonderful 2017 for which
we heartily appreciate our readers, well-wisher for
As I’ m talking about ongoing transformation, we cannot leave
behind the role technology is playing in education for students
and teachers. Therefore, in the technology corner, I decided to
discuss on how the technological innovation has evolved our
lives. The main focus of the article is “Can Technology Ever
Replace Great Teaching?” Furthermore, we will debate about the
importance of technology in education and the importance of a
teacher in the student’s life.
In the limelight “Behavior Management in the classroom and
school” is featured. This article will elaborate the strategies that
should be implemented in the classroom environment to manage
the behavior of the students.
I really want my readers to learn something different from this
issue, thus, I have included some fast tips about how to teach
the students suffering from ADHD. In this issue, I have briefly
discussed, what ADHD is and how to teach and manage
students suffering from it. As for graduate students, I have
discussed the most common concerns every fresh graduate is
facing; the frustration of finding their first job after college and
also how to overcome the frustration stage.
In this short synopsis, I encourage you to read this Magazine as
these all are the emerging concerns and topics in this era. In the
end, I would just wish you all a year of love and happiness.
Let’s start with a quote “Without change, there is no innovation,
creativity, or incentive for improvement. Those who initiate
change will have a better opportunity to manage the change
that is inevitable” by William Pollard. This quote is very much
applicable to the companies that have done the best over the
long haul as those are the most creative and innovative. These
are those organizations that don’t actually copy what others do;
they may use some innovative ideas from others as a springboard
to come up with unique services and products.
International Accreditation Organization – IAO, is one of those
companies that has actually followed this ‘innovation’ strategy.
Therefore, with respect to its innovative and creative ideas, IAO
has revamped its website and services to provide its stakeholders
with the best services to cater the needs of the global educational
community. We have improved the way we communicate with
them to make them realize their worth. IAO is known to be the
best organization in terms of services as well as in
communication, but now we will act proactively to create
competitive advantage not only from our competitors but also
from our previous outlook. We are continuously endeavoring in
the innovation and improvement of the higher educational
standards to make the study process easy for institutes as well as
students.

Can Technology Ever Replace
GREAT TEACHING?
In the history of mankind, we have
invented better ways to work, live and
learn. Since the invention of the wheel,
and even before that, human creativity
and innovation have exceeded its limit. We
can communicate and work with people
far away. Therefore, when it comes to
teaching and learning, the educational
environment is showing a shift towards
technology.
Would you rather have a great teacher or
great technology for learning? Many
would argue that technology has reduced
the need for teachers. After all, most of the
world’s cumulative knowledge is now just
a click away.
The comfort level humans have nowadays
to the virtual world is remarkable. Most of
the people find it quicker and indeed
simpler to access these online resources
whenever they want. For some, it may
even seem more comfortable to sign into
the nearest Wi-Fi than attending school.
In the recent years, the number of people
taking courses online and therefore using
technology as a means to augment their
education has increased intensely. You
can now master a foreign language or
even complete a whole degree without
leaving the comfort of your couch. You
have an open option of when and how you
want to learn. At the same time, the choice
of technology used in the classroom has
also boomed, with the rise of smart
boards, digital books and, most
importantly, the tools accessible on the
internet. Let’s discuss how technology
plays role in education.

In today’s connected world, it is really
significant to incorporate modern
technology in classrooms in order to
prepare students for the outside tech
demanding jobs and tasks. At present,
every job requires some skills of
technology, so it is very important for
schools and universities to incorporate
this in the classroom as well as into all the
educational curriculum.
Technology in Education
The rise of new technologies into a
society, created a model of changes
within the educational circle as many
began to understand its importance. It is
quite clear that the today’s society is
going to be significantly different to that
of the past and thus, the change was
necessary in the educational institutions
as well, if they were to stand up to their
namesake and prepare students for the
globalized corporate world. This simply
signifies that technology could play an
important role in education system.
The strategies of teaching based on
educational technology can be defined as
principled practices that enable the
students’ learnings and enhance their
productivity, capacity and performance.
Integration of technology in education
encourages optimistic changes in
teaching methods on a universal level.
The forthcoming of the system of
education is practically determined by
the growth of technology. Some teachers
and specialists are against the trends of
implementing technological tools and
apps in every single aspect of the
education system, largely because
technology is a foundation of
interruption for students. Though,
appropriate technology integration
direct students to greater understanding
of all thoughts covered in class.

Why Teachers Still Matter
Most In The Digital Age?
Technology in the classroom can
definitely be a powerful ingredient. But
while technology is ever-growing, one
thing will remain the same forever: the
importance and significance of the
teacher in encouraging students and
organizing classrooms that blend digital
learning with live instruction. Teachers will
always remain the ‘gold standard’ of
quality education. Great teachers can
empower student engagement and equip
them with the advanced skills they need
for the success in all phases of their
career.
Embracing technology means admiring
teachers’ long-lasting and crucial role in
the classroom while authorizing them to
blend the tools that expand their syllabus,
and augment communication with peers,
parents and administration.
Technology provides instructors more opportunities to permit their students to go
deeper into learning themes, enhancing their expertise in researching, writing, and
communicating. And those opportunities extend outside the classroom more easily; far
better than can be done through old-fashioned schooling. We now live in a digital world.
University life and the working world after graduation require the knowledge to use
technology to interact and communicate in a broader perspective.
The most standard role a teacher plays in
the classroom is to make their students
study. Teachers are given a syllabus they
should follow to meet the stated
deadlines. Now the debate is, the given
curriculum can also be followed by
technology by giving students online
lecture notes and worksheets
Remember that technology has no
command on students however teacher
does have.
Teachers teach in many ways including
lectures, small group activities, and
hands-on learning activities. We must
remember that this new era is both high
tech and high touch.
Teacher Creates
Classroom Environment
Teachers are those who create
environment in the classroom, and not the
technology. If a teacher prepares a warm,
happy and fun environment, students are
more likely to be happy to study. However
if a teacher is angry, a student is more
likely to react negatively. Technology only
delivers the knowledge and help teachers
to deliver their lecture but cannot create
an environment for the students to keep
the class flow standardized. Teachers are
responsible for the social behavior in their
classrooms and not the technology.
Substantial learning for students isn’t a
matter of ‘waiting for a super power’, or
waiting for technology to become a ‘silver
bullet’ for student victory. The quality
learning comes from great teachers who
contemplate high technological tools
which includes e-books, lessons, and other
resources.
Technology provides teachers more
opportunities to teachers to encourage
their students to learn more profoundly,
enhancing their skills in researching,
communicating, and writing.
Beyond technology, teachers serve many
other roles that cannot be replaced by
technology. Let’s debate about them to
realize the importance of teachers.
06
www.iao.org
Mentoring is a way teacher motivates
students to endeavor to be the best they
can. It is a natural role reserved by
teachers which may have positive or
negative effects on children. Mentoring
also means to listen to the students to
provide them with the sense of ownership
in the classroom. However, technology
cannot listen to the student like teachers
do. Teachers can understand student’s
emotion and guide them accordingly. This
helps build their confidence and supports
them to be successful.
Teachers generally do not think of
themselves as role models, though,
unintentionally they are. Students tend to
spend most of the time with their teachers
and therefore, one of the teachers
becomes the role model to them. As
compare to technology, teachers are
a sense of affection to the students that
create a bond between them. Technology
can help a student to convey a huge
amount of knowledge but they cannot
actually create a bond or relationship with
them. However, teachers are there not
only to teach the students but also to love
and care for them.
Role Modeling
Considering the roles of teachers and the
significance of technology, it is clear that
presence of the teacher is equally as
important as technology. The existence of
computers in the classroom can never
replace the teacher in any case in the
future. Technology is a worth investing to
help our teachers, catalyze learning so
that teachers can motivate and guide
students with the best tools and have
even more impact on student success.
Conclusion
Mentoring
“
“Teacher are equally as important as
technology.
Teaching Students with ADHD
What is ADHD?
ADHD is referred to as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder.
ADHD is an extremely genetic, brain-based syndrome that
has to do with the regulation of a specific set of brain
functions and associated behaviors.
These brain operations are cooperatively referred to as
‘executive functioning skills and include important functions
such as attention, memory, concentration, motivation and
effort, impulsivity, hyperactivity, organization, learning from
mistakes and social skills. There are several contributing
factors that play an important role in these challenges
including chemical and structural differences in the brain as
well as genetics.
If you are a teacher, you are well aware of these types of kids:
the one who stares out of the window, substituting the arc of
a bird in flight for her math lesson, the one who is hyperactive,
and etc.
Students who reveal ADHD’s hallmark signs of inattentive-
ness, hyperactivity, and impulsive can be frustrating at times.
You know that the brainpower is there, but they can’t just
seem to focus on the material you are working hard to
convey. In addition, their behaviors take time away from
instruction and disturb the whole class.

Fast Tips
ADHD and classroom Challenges
Students suffering from ADHD pay the price for their
concerns in low grades, scolding and punishment, taunting
from peers, and low self-esteem. In the meantime, you, the
teacher, wind-up taking complaints from parents who feel
their kids are being cheated of your instruction and feeling
guilty because you can’t reach the child with ADHD.
What teachers can do to help
children with ADHD?
So how do you teach a kid who won’t settle down and learn?
Successful programs for children with ADHD integrate the
following components:
Accommodations:
What you can do to make learning easier for students suffer-
ing from ADHD.
Instruction:
The methods you may use in teaching to make them learn
faster.
08
www.iao.org
They demand attention by talking out of turn or running
around the room.
They face trouble following instructions, especially when
they are given the list, and with operations that need to
order steps, such as solving equations and long division
problems.
They usually forget to write down their homework
assignments or bring incomplete work to school.
They often lack motor skills, which makes it difficult for
them to take notes.
They often face problems with long-term projects where
there is no straight supervision.
They don’t pull their effort during group assignments.
Common Challenges Created by
Students with ADHD
As a teacher, you can make variations in the classroom to help diminish the interruptions and disruptions of ADHD.
Classroom accommodations for students with ADHD
Ŷ Give commands one at a time and
repeat if necessary.
Ŷ Try to work on the most difficult materi-
al early in the day.
Ŷ Use visuals: diagrams, pictures, color
coding.
Ŷ Create frameworks for note-taking that
unify the information as you convey it.
Ŷ Seat the student suffering from ADHD
away from the door and windows.
Ŷ Seat the student with ADHD right in
front of your desk unless that would be a
disruption for the student.
Ŷ Arrange seats in rows, with the entire
concentration on the teacher. This often
works well than having students seated
around tables or facing one another.
Ŷ Create a quiet area free of distractions
when having tests in the classroom.
Seating
Ŷ Generate worksheets and tests with
fewer items, give frequent short quizzes
rather than lengthy tests.
Ŷ Test students with ADHD in the means
they do best, such as orally or filling in
blanks.
Ŷ Divide lengthy projects into sections
and assign a completion goal for each
section.
Ŷ Accept late work if possible and give
partial credit for partial work.
Student workInformation delivery
Ŷ Keep the instructions straight, simple
and structured. It is a good idea to use
props, charts and other visual aids.
Ŷ Change the place and include different
kinds of activities. Most of the ADHD
students do well with competitive games
or other activities that are speedy and
intense.
Ŷ Have an unobtrusive cue set up with the
student suffering from ADHD, such as a
touch on the shoulder or placing a sticky
note on the student’s desk, to remind the
student to stay on task.
Ŷ Allow a student suffering from ADHD
frequent breaks and let him or her
squeeze a rubber ball or tap something
that doesn’t make noise as a physical
outlet.
Ŷ Don’t ask something from a student
suffering from ADHD to perform a task or
answer a question publicly that might be
too difficult.
Ŷ Start the lesson with an aural cue, such
as an egg timer, a bell or a horn. You can
even use subsequent cues to show how
much time remains in a lesson.
Ŷ Establish eye contact with ADHD
students.
Ŷ Organize the activities of the lesson on
the board.
Ŷ Outline the tasks and learning of the
day to students in the beginning of the
lesson.
Starting a Lesson
Ŷ Summarize the fundamental points.
Ŷ If you give an assignment, have three
different students repeat it, then have the
class say it in harmony, and write it on the
board.
Ŷ Be specific about what to take home.
Ending the Lesson
ADHD is a chronic condition that affects
millions of children and often continues in
adulthood. Children with ADHD may also
struggle with low-esteem, troubled
relationships, and poor performance in
school. Teachers are well aware of these
types of student and may help in building
their character. But it is still advisable to
see a doctor when you feel that your child
is having issues in his daily life.
Conclusion
Conducting the Lesson
Teaching techniques for students with ADHD
Teaching methods that assist students suffering from ADHD focus and uphold their attentiveness on your lesson and their work can
be helpful to the entire class.

Commission Member
Interview
What drew you to be an Evaluation Commissioner at IAO?
From my early age, my thoughts drove me to work towards education and the
betterment of education standards that enrich the lives of the students. It was
a privilege for me to be an Evaluation Commissioner for International
Accreditation Organization [IAO] which is a renowned quality assurance
agency working to improve the educational standards of educational
organizations like Universities, Government Colleges, Partial Government
Institutes & State Colleges, and Private Institutes, worldwide.
Which important opportunities do you see for the educational institutes in
your region?
To achieve an accreditation from globally-renowned quality assurance agency,
I believe that there are multiple benefits for the educational institutes in India.
Accreditations benefit institutes for global standards, academic programs,
curriculum, discipline, a defined delivery system and training methodology.
Accreditation helps to ensure that an educational institution has qualified
faculty, rigorous curriculum, high academic standards and proper assessment
of learning processes in place.
How can accreditation from a renowned agency, such as IAO, contribute to an educational institute’s success? How can it help
an institute achieve higher standards in education?
There are multiple benefits to have an accreditation from a globally-renowned quality. The most important benefit is that an institute
gains a unique position among other institutions. Secondly, faculty and staff members have much higher chances of growing their
career and enhance their skills while working with peers. Faculty members have greater access to business community and they teach
with pride about their school being internationally recognized.
10
www.iao.org
Interview
a. Accreditation from a prestigious body like the IAO ensures that the academic programs offered by the institute are relevant, credible
and recognized. Also, it has talented, experienced faculty, industry defined syllabus, state of the art infrastructure with technology-based
content, delivery mediums and a vibrant, dynamic environment that serves to enhance students’ learning experiences.
b. In India now, students have a well-defined objective: to get a highly rewarding & career-oriented job with a reputed organization. And
that’s possible only when they graduate or complete their education from an IAO-accredited institution. Moreover, they wish to
graduate with the requisite skills and qualifications to survive and excel in today’s fiercely competitive business environment.
c. Today, parents want the best for their children. Every parent wants to prepare their children for the competitive business world with
proper qualifications and skills. Accreditation for colleges & institutes is the most important feature as it helps students to choose the
best among others with an international accreditation. By choosing an IAO accredited institute or college, helps them to be assured
that an educational institution has qualified faculty, rigorous curriculum, high academic standards and proper assessment of learning
processes in place.
d. A professional counselor always insist to help students graduate or complete their career programs from a college or institute having
a good reputation which drives them to a successful career path. A college accredited with IAO gives an institute, a global assurance,
that it produces top quality undergraduate, graduate, masters and doctorate degrees that have global recognition.
Accreditation from IAO helps

11
www.iao.org
What is one thing you’d like the member
institutes of your region to know about
you?
I believe that before the audit process,
every nominated institute must know well
about the IAO their evaluation process and
its importance. We as a neutral body need
to inspect the institutes and audit the
documents without any direct relationship
with them as well as IAO.
How do you define an effective teaching process? Do you think a healthy
student-faculty relationship can contribute to a more conducive learning
environment?
Traditionally, faculties were the 'holders of information' and their role was to
impart this knowledge and skill to students. The internet has changed it all. All
information can now be obtained anywhere, anytime on anything. Thus, the
role of faculties has changed to develop the skills and tools to assist students
in critically analyzing the plethora of information available. Effective teaching is
more than just the successful transference of knowledge and skill or
application around a particular topic. Effective teaching ensures that this
surface approach to learning is replaced by deeper, student-driven approaches
to learning that analyze, develop, create and demonstrate understanding.
Students need to initiate learning and maintain engagement during learning to
develop their independent lifelong skills. Therefore, I completely agree and
believe that the faculty has a major responsibility of maintaining good
interpersonal relationships with students. Certain positive qualities are
warranted from the faculty to build good relationships in the classroom.
It’s very vital to maintain a positive interpersonal attitude among students, faculty and institute, which directly contributes to the progress
and success of institute. It also helps to develop an effective, healthy environment to ensure that students and faculty remain stress-free.

Behavior Management in
Classroom and School
One of the massive challenges of being a teacher is dealing with student
behavior. Positive or a negative behavior of a single student affect the class as a
whole. The goal of behavior management strategies is to promote a positive
classroom environment conducive to learning for all students. In this article, we
will discuss some major behavior management strategies that teachers can use
to keep the classroom in order.
How to deliver sanctions?
To effectually deliver sanctions, the message needs to be simple, clear and firm as it is easy to get caught up in prolonged arguments
or conflict. Emphasis on moving in, delivering your sanction as discreetly as possible and then move out quickly. Pick a phrase that you
will be able to withdraw which includes ‘ I need to see you working the same way you were in yesterday’s written task, thank you for
listening’ or ‘I will come back and definitely give you feedback on your work within 5 to 10 minutes’.
Try to avoid waiting around the students to transform their behavior proximately; they may need some space and time to choose what
is better for them independently. Meanwhile, engage another student in a constructive conversation or move across the room to
answer the question and only check back once the students are settled. No one likes receiving penalties and the longer the
communication the more chance of a self-justifying reaction or escalation. Get in, convey the message and get off with dignity –
speedily, competently and without persistence.
“Effective ways to manage
behavior in the classroom”

'Five, you should be completing the sentence
that you are writing,
Three, a merit for being the first to give me your
full attention,
Two, back to your places quickly,
One, all pens and pencils down now,
Half, all looking this way,
Zero, thank you.'
‘Thank you for putting your bag on the hook’
Or
‘Thank you for throwing your gum in the bin’
First Method
‘When you come to see me today around 3:30 so we can
solve this matter quickly and both get home in time’. As
opposed to, ‘Come to my room at the end of the school’.
Second Method
‘When you submit your coursework next Tuesday, meet me in
the staff room so I can store it securely’. As opposed to, ‘I
want your coursework on Tuesday’.
Countdown Closed Requests
Let’s start with this phrase,A better technique for getting the attention of the entire
class is to use a ‘countdown’ from 5 to 0 to permit students
the time to complete their conversations and listen to the
following instructions. Clarify to the entire class that you are
using the countdown to give them fair warning that they
should listen and that it is way too polite than calling them
for immediate silence. Embellish your countdown with
specified instructions so that students would be able to
judge what is expected and what is not and be prepared to
modify it for different groups;
Some of the students enjoy joining in the countdown with
the teacher at first, some may not be quiet by the time to
reach to the zero at first and persist, to overcome that, use
admiration and rewards to strengthen the importance of
countdown. It may become an extremely effective tool for
the time when you need everybody’s attention.
Prefacing requests with ‘Thank you’ has a huge effect on the way
request is received. The trust in the student that this statement
implies, joint with the transparency of the belief, often results in
instantaneous reaction without an objection. It is almost a closed
request which leaves no 'hook' to argue with.
Alike methods and procedures can be applied to requests for
students to meet deadlines (targets) or attend meetings that they
would rather overlook.
The examples mentioned above are assuming and encouraging a
positive response, making it difficult for the student to respond
negatively
13

Get Out And About
Perhaps your highest contributions to managing behavior
around the school area is your presence. Students will see
consistency in your expectations for behavior both in and
out of class, if you make yourself available outside the class
well. You can have late-lunch and cup of tea with them.
They will cultivate a habit to your involvement in social areas
and your existence will gradually have an impact on their
behavior. The associations you forge will be reinforced with
opportunities for less formal conversation presenting them-
selves every day. In more challenging institutions, there may
be a tendency to evade social areas or stray way too far from
teaching areas.
Distribute Responsibilities
At primary level, students’ trust can be motivated through
sharing and delegating tasks in the classroom. An efficient
Grade 5 teacher will have students handing out resources,
clearing and cleaning the room, preparing areas for distinct
activities, drawing blinds, etc. This way, the student will learn
to share responsibilities and accept accountability for them-
selves.
It is often assumed that primary school teachers guide
students to be independent and secondary school teachers
guide them not to be. Year 7 students are often astonished
when their responsibilities for the classroom is detached.
www.iao.org
14
Proactively Emerging
Associations with Students
Choose your opportunities to build a relationship with a
student carefully. Try opening up a casual conversation
when a student appears relaxed and unguarded. Give the
student something they are interested in or just greet them
in a friendly manner. You may choose to wait until you find a
situation that is not pressured or time-limited. Rather than
launching into a lengthy and involved conversation, aim for
little and friendly conversations.
Remember, your intervention may be uninvited initially. Your
aim is to moderately encourage the students to create trust.
Remember! Your approaches can be rejected. The students
may be testing you to see how committed you really are to
grow the relationship. They may not welcome any casual
conversation with you because it is easier for them to deal
with a conflict than a relationship of trust.
Give your time spontaneously and expect none in return; in
time with persistence, your reward can be a positive associa-
tion that might astonish others.
Duty at the school gates
Many teachers are not interested in giving a duty at school gates.
The complications of unwanted visitors communicating with
students as they arrive or leave are compounded by the
confusion of where the teacher’s power lies. Yet, just as you can
cultivate a positive environment in the classroom by standing at
the door greeting students or reinforcing positive behavior at the
end of the lesson, so you have an impact at the school gates.
Remember! Students can read your physical and verbal language
as they pass; if you are confident, calm, positive, gentle, smiling
and can fortify students who are following the rules and
regulations, it will eventually set the right tone.
Your behavior has the greatest impact on how safe your students
feel. It may not be a good thing to try and challenge every
incident of negative behavior immediately and in public.
In the end…
Behavior management is one of the major challenges that all
teachers usually face. It is quite critical to understand that all
situations and classes differ. Teachers must quickly figure out
what works with a particular group of students and when. Some
of the teachers are naturally strong in this thing while others have
to work really very hard to enhance behavior management
strategies in their classrooms.
Don't just get down, get way down!
It is often said that getting down to the eye level of the student is
important when appraising or penalizing them. This can often be
understood as leaning over the students rather than standing
over them or sitting down very next to them. Most of the
academic specialists observed that teachers who believe that
they are at the eye level of the student still demand the student
to look up at them. Teachers who do this know that squatting
down lower than eye level is not weak but assertive and confident
physical language.
When you are delivering penalties there is very low chance of an
aggressive reaction, and when appreciating, you can generate a
more private space in the room. If you are in an open space and
want to speak to the students standing at the other side of the
room, make sure you double the private space that you permit
the student or stand alongside with him or her to have a similar
effect.
Classroom makeover
With the emergence of the interactive whiteboard and use of
technology for teaching, many classrooms are returning to
students in rows with the teacher’s desk at the front and in the
corner. Many years back the classroom was organized for the
student to see blackboard, now technology has substituted chalk
and blackboard but the difficulties of inflexible classroom
configurations remain same.
When designing the outline of your room you also want to reflect
the management of behavior. With students in rows and the
teachers sitting beside their desk, there are many hiding spaces
for students to escape to. If you cannot get to students promptly
and easily then the schoolroom becomes a field where
discussions about behaviors are broadcasted for everyone to
perceive.
Confrontations become more regular, appreciation becomes
subtle and as the teacher retreats behind the desk the physical
divide can easily develop into a psychological one.
As a response to the overuse of the blackboard, much work was
done to motivate teachers to use more active classroom
formations. Desks in rows with the teacher’s desk at the front
make the management of behavior tougher, stifles gentle human
interaction and force conversations to be broadcasted publicly.

Regional accreditation bodies have dutifully evaluated education providers on a regional scale and granted them Primary Accreditation.
However, the rapid growth of globalization calls for a global entity which can evaluate them against internationally proven standards of

You are graduated and now in the market to find a perfect job
for yourself. You’ve responded to too many job positions and
have sent out your resume more times than you are ready to
acknowledge. You’re beginning to wonder what’s wrong and
why companies are passing you by. You begin interrogating
yourself and can’t comprehend why your 3.4 GPA hasn’t
landed you a job.
After all, you went to a university so that you would be able to
find a qualified job in your field of interest. If only you knew
that jobs were going to be this scarce, you may have avoided
going to university. What about all the lectures you received
from your family, teachers, and others on the impact of higher
education and how it will get you a meaningful job?
When you are just out of the University and embarking on
hunting a career track, it’s easy to feel intimidated. Job
searching without any work experience can be frustrating, but
with some hard work, ambition and confidence in yourself, it is
possible.
Keep your hopes high as there are things that you can do to
increase the chances of conducting a successful job search in
a competitive job market.

The Frustration of Hunting
Your First Job after University
www.iao.org
According to Schawbel recognized as a 'personal branding
guru' by The New York Times, says, that youngsters should
create their LinkedIn profile early as their senior year in the
high school. Even if the profile is just like a bare-bones list of
where you attend high, your awards and recognition, your
extra-curricular activities, what you see as your skills, and a
summary of the sort of career that may interest you. Include
jobs and internships you may have done during your term
time, like working at a summer camp or any other placements.
They show that you’re a business person and have
shouldered responsibility. As you cultivate and gather more
work experience, you can delete your early jobs and add new
ones.
It can be really helpful to start structuring your list of
connections early. There are adults and professionals who
have LinkedIn profiles with multiple contacts. Do connect to
as many people as you can.
Most students figure that because they already have an
account on Facebook, they are socialized enough. But the fact
is most of the employers look in LinkedIn profile to search for
a candidate. It actually looks good if an employer would be
able to find you on LinkedIn as it is a network designed only
for professionals.
19
Create a
LinkedIn Profile
Establish A Presence On
WordPress Or Through Your Own Blog
According to one of the survey, only one in nine students has a presence on WordPress. It is the best site to generate your
personal blog.
Now the important question is what should your blog express? If you don’t know what career path you want to choose in the
future, pick a personal interest and write about it.
Get an internship as early as possible
Get Creative about Finding a Mentor
Like establishing a LinkedIn Profile and blog is important, it is believed that it is never too early to start getting internships. According
to a survey, students are aware of the value of internships but they are falling to land them. 85% of the students said that they believe
having an internship is either important or very important for their career, 52% said that they wish to have 3 or even more months
internship before graduating. However, only 40% had done at least one internship after graduating.
It is good for a student to have internships early on with companies that have brand recognition. For example, if a student has complet-
ed an internship in Reebok, he will be convinced that having the Reebok name mentioned on his resume can help him land good jobs
in future.
Forbes, an American Business Magazine reported in a survey that, 70% of the students had at least one mentor, 37% of them said that
their parents are their mentors, while 28% said that they relied on a professor. 21% said they used a family member or friend and 17%
said their current or former employer was their mentor. Only 10% said they found a mentor through social networking sites.
It is understandable why students turn to their parents, family and friends, but it recommendable making use of social network to
search for a mentor, unless your parents are working in a field you want to pursue.
It is advisable to find someone who is doing what you want to do. Search more thoroughly on LinkedIn for the organization and field
where you wish to work. For example, if you want to work in advertisement and MTV is your dream company, enter keywords to search
and see who comes up. Or else if you are more interested in Human Resource and you fantasize about working in Google, search with
those words. Try to connect with them via LinkedIn or any other platform. It is potentially difficult but if you get one mentor, it can
change everything for you.

It is quite difficult to imagine how many resumes an HR Executive, recruitment manager or headhunter have to read each day but it’s a
lot. Thus, it is really important for you to create an impactful resume to impress the employers.
Make your resume is easy to read and eye-catching. However, there are certain steps you need to follow to make sure that you are on
the right track.
First of all, proofread your resume or make it proofread by some professional. Errors in the resume are inexcusable, a potential employer
will interpret these as careless mistakes and lack in attention to detail.
Secondly, keep it simple. You should keep everything consistent such as spacing, font size and style, and formatting. The perfect CV
should not be more than 2 pages. Make sure you summarize all experiences and abilities to make it short and readable.
Prepare and Design Your CV Carefully
www.iao.org

Although this seems like the clearest way to get career assistance, the study tells that only 29% of the students use their college career
office. There are some schools and universities that may connect you with the alumni who works in the field of your interest and may
assist you to get a good job. Moreover, career offices assist students with resume and cover letter writing and job interview preparations.
Use Your School’s Career Service Office
The fact is that there are thousands of fresh graduates that are experiencing the same thing. With over 200 applicants applying for the
same job, owners are scrambling to select candidates that they feel are the best to work for their organizations. Unfortunately, if you
look at this problem rationally, there may be a good chance that your resume gets overlooked based on the number of resumes
companies receive per day. Increase your chances to get a good job by implementing the strategies mentioned above.
Don’t get frustrated, because job hunting is an overwhelming job itself. You need to work hard and keep yourself calm and patient to
achieve something better for future.
Conclusion
IAO in Conversation with
Dilip Surana, Chairman
Could you please tell us about your academic background and
achievements?
I was born in Bangalore, in Pali district, Rajasthan. I have done my schooling
from the prestigious Bishop Cotton Boys High School in Bangalore and passed
as a graduate from St. Joseph's College of Commerce. Apart from certification,
I acquired practical academic knowledge and professional skills under the
guidance of my father Mr. G. C. Surana, a great business tycoon and
philanthropist who established a pharma giant M/s Micro Labs Ltd.
To highlight the achievements in the field of the corporate world:
Micro Labs has evolved over time into a diversified pharmaceutical
manufacturing company with products ranging from oral solids and liquids, to
topical and injectable. The company is rightly regarded as a pioneer in many
ways as it has introduced various molecules for the first time in India. The
company has established world-class state-of-the-art research and
manufacturing facilities covering Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and
finished dosage forms as well as infrastructure for new drug discovery. The
manufacturing units are designed to meet the current global standards of GMP
and safety standards for personnel. Today the company is committed to doing
world-class research that develops bioequivalent generics. This

Surana Group of Institutions
Your extensive experience can be a source of inspiration for many; please share with us the professional milestones you have
achieved so far.
Leadership is an option. One will have to choose it on its own. A person who would like to reach the destiny of leadership should sail the
boat of dreams with his own efforts. Hard work, commitment and perseverance has made me a global leader and entrepreneur. The
Philanthropic approach is part of every leader's life attitude. This understanding of mine has made me establish the Surana Group of
Institutions. In 1995, we started Pre-university and Degree Courses at South End Campus of Bangalore. As an expansion plan of
Pre-university and Degree courses, a new branch has been established in Peenya, Bangalore North, during the academic year 2017-18.
Over 40,000 students have been graduated from these educational institutions since its inception.
possibly the only company in the country having stand-alone, dedicated facilities for the handling of sensitizing and potent products.
Micro Labs has to its credit, all the international regulatory approvals including US FDA, UK MHRA, MCC, South Africa, Health Canada,
WHO, Geneva TGA, Australia Med safe, New Zealand PAHO (USA), IDA (Netherlands) and many regulatory bodies of emerging markets
rejecting the high standards of quality and regulatory compliance of research and manufacturing facilities.
As the Chairman of the Surana Group of Institutions, what are
some of your long and short-term goals for the education
system?
Our long and short-term plans contemplate on restructuring the
curriculum at global perception which caters students' academic
and professional needs. Unquestionably, expansion of physical
infrastructure in concurrence with academic expansion is part of
our plan. At present Surana Group of Institutions is running
Kindergarten, Pre-primary, Primary, Higher Primary,
Pre-university, Degree, Master's Degree and Research Centers.
Our future plan is to go for University status with diversified
streams. Also, it's our wish to have a global network in
collaboration with international educational partners.
Is the perceived value of accreditation for Education providers
& Students? What is your opinion?
Any accreditation system is a kind of self-evaluation for
education providers which indicates our area of improvements to
cater students' academic & professional needs.
Do you think IAO's international accreditation has made a
difference in the world of education?
It's a good initiative by IAO. It's a commutative world. The
accreditation process could be much more intensive.
What are your biggest challenges as a chairman? What is your
philosophy for effective teaching methodology?
There will be different mindsets of students in classrooms. And
thus, it's our greatest challenge to bring all of them to the
expectations of today’s global market. To overcome this
challenge, our mentors play a vital role to bridge the gap between
students' expectations and mentors' teaching methodologies.
For the last few years, we have observed many students are
opting for non-traditional methods of education, like distance
learning etc. Do these alternative methods produce equally
competent graduates?
Distance education makes it accessible for students to study as
per their flexibility and priority. It entirely depends on how the
student makes the maximum out of it. Distance learning trend is
on its rise and gaining its popularity all over the world. The
purpose of DL is growth and thus we will continue to strive
irrespective of the form of education.
Given a hike in tuition fee in recent months, do you predict
a decline in overall enrollment in higher education institutes?
To some extent, it might be right. But students and parents are
completely aware of their educational future plans. Hence, they
properly plan the financial requirements for their higher
education. Students with perfect vision never give up their studies
of what so ever the circumstances.

Do you think technological advancement has helped in
effective learning for students or is it more of a distraction?
In today's world, one cannot live without technology. Technology
is an important platform to enhance the teaching and learning
environment in demonstrable ways. Teaching and learning can
be made more novel, stimulating, exciting and engaging with the
help of multimedia in classroom. Fortunately or unfortunately, we
are from a world where there are advancements happening at
lightning speed and in order to keep up with the speed of the
world and their brimming thinking minds, it is necessary to
inculcate technology in schools and colleges.

  • 3. Welcome From the Editor www.iao.org he autumn has arrived and summer is about to pass, thus, we wish our readers a very happy cool autumn. Together we are having a wonderful 2017 for which we heartily appreciate our readers, well-wisher for As I’ m talking about ongoing transformation, we cannot leave behind the role technology is playing in education for students and teachers. Therefore, in the technology corner, I decided to discuss on how the technological innovation has evolved our lives. The main focus of the article is “Can Technology Ever Replace Great Teaching?” Furthermore, we will debate about the importance of technology in education and the importance of a teacher in the student’s life. In the limelight “Behavior Management in the classroom and school” is featured. This article will elaborate the strategies that should be implemented in the classroom environment to manage the behavior of the students. I really want my readers to learn something different from this issue, thus, I have included some fast tips about how to teach the students suffering from ADHD. In this issue, I have briefly discussed, what ADHD is and how to teach and manage students suffering from it. As for graduate students, I have discussed the most common concerns every fresh graduate is facing; the frustration of finding their first job after college and also how to overcome the frustration stage. In this short synopsis, I encourage you to read this Magazine as these all are the emerging concerns and topics in this era. In the end, I would just wish you all a year of love and happiness. Let’s start with a quote “Without change, there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive for improvement. Those who initiate change will have a better opportunity to manage the change that is inevitable” by William Pollard. This quote is very much applicable to the companies that have done the best over the long haul as those are the most creative and innovative. These are those organizations that don’t actually copy what others do; they may use some innovative ideas from others as a springboard to come up with unique services and products. International Accreditation Organization – IAO, is one of those companies that has actually followed this ‘innovation’ strategy. Therefore, with respect to its innovative and creative ideas, IAO has revamped its website and services to provide its stakeholders with the best services to cater the needs of the global educational community. • 4. Technology can never replace great teaching but teachnology in the hands of great teachers is transformational. 02 www.iao.org Can Technology Ever Replace GREAT TEACHING? In the history of mankind, we have invented better ways to work, live and learn. Since the invention of the wheel, and even before that, human creativity and innovation have exceeded its limit. We can communicate and work with people far away. Therefore, when it comes to teaching and learning, the educational environment is showing a shift towards technology. Would you rather have a great teacher or great technology for learning? Many would argue that technology has reduced the need for teachers. After all, most of the world’s cumulative knowledge is now just a click away. The comfort level humans have nowadays to the virtual world is remarkable. Most of the people find it quicker and indeed simpler to access these online resources whenever they want. For some, it may even seem more comfortable to sign into the nearest Wi-Fi than attending school. In the recent years, the number of people taking courses online and therefore using technology as a means to augment their education has increased intensely. You can now master a foreign language or even complete a whole degree without leaving the comfort of your couch. You have an open option of when and how you want to learn. At the same time, the choice of technology used in the classroom has also boomed, with the rise of smart boards, digital books and, most importantly, the tools accessible on the internet. Let’s discuss how technology plays role in education. “ “ Technology Corner
  • 5. 03 www.iao.org In today’s connected world, it is really significant to incorporate modern technology in classrooms in order to prepare students for the outside tech demanding jobs and tasks. At present, every job requires some skills of technology, so it is very important for schools and universities to incorporate this in the classroom as well as into all the educational curriculum. Technology in Education The rise of new technologies into a society, created a model of changes within the educational circle as many began to understand its importance. It is quite clear that the today’s society is going to be significantly different to that of the past and thus, the change was necessary in the educational institutions as well, if they were to stand up to their namesake and prepare students for the globalized corporate world. This simply signifies that technology could play an important role in education system. The strategies of teaching based on educational technology can be defined as principled practices that enable the students’ learnings and enhance their productivity, capacity and performance. Integration of technology in education encourages optimistic changes in teaching methods on a universal level. The forthcoming of the system of education is practically determined by the growth of technology. Some teachers and specialists are against the trends of implementing technological tools and apps in every single aspect of the education system, largely because technology is a foundation of interruption for students. Though, appropriate technology integration direct students to greater understanding of all thoughts covered in class.

Improve Skills It helps us in digital learning, building teams, planning, problem solving, presentations, communication and etc. Reduces Weight Instead of carrying lots of books, student just carry a laptop or a tablet which usually contains all of their projects and books Increase Collaboration Students can work and collaborate with people in other locations. Distance learning has become easy Learning Becomes Interesting It engages and challenges students with brand new interactive methods.
  • 7. Teaching Knowledge 05 www.iao.org Why Teachers Still Matter Most In The Digital Age? Technology in the classroom can definitely be a powerful ingredient. But while technology is ever-growing, one thing will remain the same forever: the importance and significance of the teacher in encouraging students and organizing classrooms that blend digital learning with live instruction. Teachers will always remain the ‘gold standard’ of quality education. Great teachers can empower student engagement and equip them with the advanced skills they need for the success in all phases of their career. Embracing technology means admiring teachers’ long-lasting and crucial role in the classroom while authorizing them to blend the tools that expand their syllabus, and augment communication with peers, parents and administration. Technology provides instructors more opportunities to permit their students to go deeper into learning themes, enhancing their expertise in researching, writing, and communicating. And those opportunities extend outside the classroom more easily; far better than can be done through old-fashioned schooling. We now live in a digital world. University life and the working world after graduation require the knowledge to use technology to interact and communicate in a broader perspective. The most standard role a teacher plays in the classroom is to make their students study. Teachers are given a syllabus they should follow to meet the stated deadlines. Now the debate is, the given curriculum can also be followed by technology by giving students online lecture notes and worksheets Remember that technology has no command on students however teacher does have. Teachers teach in many ways including lectures, small group activities, and hands-on learning activities. We must remember that this new era is both high tech and high touch. Teacher Creates Classroom Environment Teachers are those who create environment in the classroom, and not the technology. If a teacher prepares a warm, happy and fun environment, students are more likely to be happy to study. However if a teacher is angry, a student is more likely to react negatively. Technology only delivers the knowledge and help teachers to deliver their lecture but cannot create an environment for the students to keep the class flow standardized. Teachers are responsible for the social behavior in their classrooms and not the technology. Substantial learning for students isn’t a matter of ‘waiting for a super power’, or waiting for technology to become a ‘silver bullet’ for student victory. The quality learning comes from great teachers who contemplate high technological tools which includes e-books, lessons, and other resources. Technology provides teachers more opportunities to teachers to encourage their students to learn more profoundly, enhancing their skills in researching, communicating, and writing. Beyond technology, teachers serve many other roles that cannot be replaced by technology. Let’s debate about them to realize the importance of teachers.
  • 8. 06 www.iao.org Mentoring is a way teacher motivates students to endeavor to be the best they can. It is a natural role reserved by teachers which may have positive or negative effects on children. Mentoring also means to listen to the students to provide them with the sense of ownership in the classroom. However, technology cannot listen to the student like teachers do. Teachers can understand student’s emotion and guide them accordingly. This helps build their confidence and supports them to be successful. Teachers generally do not think of themselves as role models, though, unintentionally they are. Students tend to spend most of the time with their teachers and therefore, one of the teachers becomes the role model to them. As compare to technology, teachers are a sense of affection to the students that create a bond between them. Technology can help a student to convey a huge amount of knowledge but they cannot actually create a bond or relationship with them. However, teachers are there not only to teach the students but also to love and care for them. Role Modeling Considering the roles of teachers and the significance of technology, it is clear that presence of the teacher is equally as important as technology. The existence of computers in the classroom can never replace the teacher in any case in the future. Technology is a worth investing to help our teachers, catalyze learning so that teachers can motivate and guide students with the best tools and have even more impact on student success. Conclusion Mentoring “ “Teacher are equally as important as technology.
  • 9. Teaching Students with ADHD What is ADHD? ADHD is referred to as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. ADHD is an extremely genetic, brain-based syndrome that has to do with the regulation of a specific set of brain functions and associated behaviors. These brain operations are cooperatively referred to as ‘executive functioning skills and include important functions such as attention, memory, concentration, motivation and effort, impulsivity, hyperactivity, organization, learning from mistakes and social skills. There are several contributing factors that play an important role in these challenges including chemical and structural differences in the brain as well as genetics. If you are a teacher, you are well aware of these types of kids: the one who stares out of the window, substituting the arc of a bird in flight for her math lesson, the one who is hyperactive, and etc. Students who reveal ADHD’s hallmark signs of inattentive- ness, hyperactivity, and impulsive can be frustrating at times. You know that the brainpower is there, but they can’t just seem to focus on the material you are working hard to convey. In addition, their behaviors take time away from instruction and disturb the whole class. 07 www.iao.org Fast Tips

In the meantime, you, the teacher, wind-up taking complaints from parents who feel their kids are being cheated of your instruction and feeling guilty because you can’t reach the child with ADHD. What teachers can do to help children with ADHD? So how do you teach a kid who won’t settle down and learn? Successful programs for children with ADHD integrate the following components: Accommodations: What you can do to make learning easier for students suffer- ing from ADHD. Instruction: The methods you may use in teaching to make them learn faster. 08 www.iao.org They demand attention by talking out of turn or running around the room. They face trouble following instructions, especially when they are given the list, and with operations that need to order steps, such as solving equations and long division problems. They usually forget to write down their homework assignments or bring incomplete work to school. They often lack motor skills, which makes it difficult for them to take notes. They often face problems with long-term projects where there is no straight supervision. They don’t pull their effort during group assignments. Common Challenges Created by Students with ADHD
  • 11. As a teacher, you can make variations in the classroom to help diminish the interruptions and disruptions of ADHD. Classroom accommodations for students with ADHD Ŷ Give commands one at a time and repeat if necessary. Ŷ Try to work on the most difficult materi- al early in the day. Ŷ Use visuals: diagrams, pictures, color coding. Ŷ Create frameworks for note-taking that unify the information as you convey it. Ŷ Seat the student suffering from ADHD away from the door and windows. Ŷ Seat the student with ADHD right in front of your desk unless that would be a disruption for the student. Ŷ Arrange seats in rows, with the entire concentration on the teacher. This often works well than having students seated around tables or facing one another. Ŷ Create a quiet area free of distractions when having tests in the classroom. Seating Ŷ Generate worksheets and tests with fewer items, give frequent short quizzes rather than lengthy tests. Ŷ Test students with ADHD in the means they do best, such as orally or filling in blanks. Ŷ Divide lengthy projects into sections and assign a completion goal for each section. Ŷ Accept late work if possible and give partial credit for partial work. Student workInformation delivery Ŷ Keep the instructions straight, simple and structured. It is a good idea to use props, charts and other visual aids. Ŷ Change the place and include different kinds of activities. Most of the ADHD students do well with competitive games or other activities that are speedy and intense. Ŷ Have an unobtrusive cue set up with the student suffering from ADHD, such as a touch on the shoulder or placing a sticky note on the student’s desk, to remind the student to stay on task. Ŷ Allow a student suffering from ADHD frequent breaks and let him or her squeeze a rubber ball or tap something that doesn’t make noise as a physical outlet. Ŷ Don’t ask something from a student suffering from ADHD to perform a task or answer a question publicly that might be too difficult. Ŷ Start the lesson with an aural cue, such as an egg timer, a bell or a horn. You can even use subsequent cues to show how much time remains in a lesson. Ŷ Establish eye contact with ADHD students. Ŷ Organize the activities of the lesson on the board. Ŷ Outline the tasks and learning of the day to students in the beginning of the lesson. Starting a Lesson Ŷ Summarize the fundamental points. Ŷ If you give an assignment, have three different students repeat it, then have the class say it in harmony, and write it on the board. Ŷ Be specific about what to take home. Ending the Lesson ADHD is a chronic condition that affects millions of children and often continues in adulthood. Children with ADHD may also struggle with low-esteem, troubled relationships, and poor performance in school. Teachers are well aware of these types of student and may help in building their character. But it is still advisable to see a doctor when you feel that your child is having issues in his daily life. Conclusion Conducting the Lesson Teaching techniques for students with ADHD Teaching methods that assist students suffering from ADHD focus and uphold their attentiveness on your lesson and their work can be helpful to the entire class. 09 www.iao.org
  • 12. Commission Member Interview What drew you to be an Evaluation Commissioner at IAO? From my early age, my thoughts drove me to work towards education and the betterment of education standards that enrich the lives of the students. It was a privilege for me to be an Evaluation Commissioner for International Accreditation Organization [IAO] which is a renowned quality assurance agency working to improve the educational standards of educational organizations like Universities, Government Colleges, Partial Government Institutes & State Colleges, and Private Institutes, worldwide. Which important opportunities do you see for the educational institutes in your region? To achieve an accreditation from globally-renowned quality assurance agency, I believe that there are multiple benefits for the educational institutes in India. Accreditations benefit institutes for global standards, academic programs, curriculum, discipline, a defined delivery system and training methodology. Accreditation helps to ensure that an educational institution has qualified faculty, rigorous curriculum, high academic standards and proper assessment of learning processes in place. How can accreditation from a renowned agency, such as IAO, contribute to an educational institute’s success? How can it help an institute achieve higher standards in education? There are multiple benefits to have an accreditation from a globally-renowned quality. The most important benefit is that an institute gains a unique position among other institutions. Secondly, faculty and staff members have much higher chances of growing their career and enhance their skills while working with peers. Faculty members have greater access to business community and they teach with pride about their school being internationally recognized. 10 www.iao.org Interview

Also, it has talented, experienced faculty, industry defined syllabus, state of the art infrastructure with technology-based content, delivery mediums and a vibrant, dynamic environment that serves to enhance students’ learning experiences. b. In India now, students have a well-defined objective: to get a highly rewarding & career-oriented job with a reputed organization. And that’s possible only when they graduate or complete their education from an IAO-accredited institution. Moreover, they wish to graduate with the requisite skills and qualifications to survive and excel in today’s fiercely competitive business environment. c. A professional counselor always insist to help students graduate or complete their career programs from a college or institute having a good reputation which drives them to a successful career path. A college accredited with IAO gives an institute, a global assurance, that it produces top quality undergraduate, graduate, masters and doctorate degrees that have global recognition. Accreditation from IAO helps Institutions Such As: 11 www.iao.org What is one thing you’d like the member institutes of your region to know about you? I believe that before the audit process, every nominated institute must know well about the IAO their evaluation process and its importance. We as a neutral body need to inspect the institutes and audit the documents without any direct relationship with them as well as IAO. How do you define an effective teaching process? Do you think a healthy student-faculty relationship can contribute to a more conducive learning environment? Traditionally, faculties were the 'holders of information' and their role was to impart this knowledge and skill to students. The internet has changed it all. All information can now be obtained anywhere, anytime on anything. Thus, the role of faculties has changed to develop the skills and tools to assist students in critically analyzing the plethora of information available. Effective teaching is more than just the successful transference of knowledge and skill or application around a particular topic. Effective teaching ensures that this surface approach to learning is replaced by deeper, student-driven approaches to learning that analyze, develop, create and demonstrate understanding. Students need to initiate learning and maintain engagement during learning to develop their independent lifelong skills. Therefore, I completely agree and believe that the faculty has a major responsibility of maintaining good interpersonal relationships with students. Certain positive qualities are warranted from the faculty to build good relationships in the classroom. It’s very vital to maintain a positive interpersonal attitude among students, faculty and institute, which directly contributes to the progress and success of institute. It also helps to develop an effective, healthy environment to ensure that students and faculty remain stress-free.
  • 14. www.iao.org Behavior Management in Classroom and School One of the massive challenges of being a teacher is dealing with student behavior. Positive or a negative behavior of a single student affect the class as a whole. The goal of behavior management strategies is to promote a positive classroom environment conducive to learning for all students. In this article, we will discuss some major behavior management strategies that teachers can use to keep the classroom in order. How to deliver sanctions? To effectually deliver sanctions, the message needs to be simple, clear and firm as it is easy to get caught up in prolonged arguments or conflict. Emphasis on moving in, delivering your sanction as discreetly as possible and then move out quickly. Pick a phrase that you will be able to withdraw which includes ‘ I need to see you working the same way you were in yesterday’s written task, thank you for listening’ or ‘I will come back and definitely give you feedback on your work within 5 to 10 minutes’. Try to avoid waiting around the students to transform their behavior proximately; they may need some space and time to choose what is better for them independently. Meanwhile, engage another student in a constructive conversation or move across the room to answer the question and only check back once the students are settled. No one likes receiving penalties and the longer the communication the more chance of a self-justifying reaction or escalation. Get in, convey the message and get off with dignity – speedily, competently and without persistence. “Effective ways to manage behavior in the classroom” 12 Cover Story

'Five, you should be completing the sentence that you are writing, Three, a merit for being the first to give me your full attention, Two, back to your places quickly, One, all pens and pencils down now, Half, all looking this way, Zero, thank you.' ‘Thank you for putting your bag on the hook’ Or ‘Thank you for throwing your gum in the bin’ First Method ‘When you come to see me today around 3:30 so we can solve this matter quickly and both get home in time’. As opposed to, ‘Come to my room at the end of the school’. Second Method ‘When you submit your coursework next Tuesday, meet me in the staff room so I can store it securely’. As opposed to, ‘I want your coursework on Tuesday’. Countdown Closed Requests Let’s start with this phrase,A better technique for getting the attention of the entire class is to use a ‘countdown’ from 5 to 0 to permit students the time to complete their conversations and listen to the following instructions. Clarify to the entire class that you are using the countdown to give them fair warning that they should listen and that it is way too polite than calling them for immediate silence. Embellish your countdown with specified instructions so that students would be able to judge what is expected and what is not and be prepared to modify it for different groups; Some of the students enjoy joining in the countdown with the teacher at first, some may not be quiet by the time to reach to the zero at first and persist, to overcome that, use admiration and rewards to strengthen the importance of countdown. It may become an extremely effective tool for the time when you need everybody’s attention. Prefacing requests with ‘Thank you’ has a huge effect on the way request is received. The trust in the student that this statement implies, joint with the transparency of the belief, often results in instantaneous reaction without an objection. It is almost a closed request which leaves no 'hook' to argue with. Alike methods and procedures can be applied to requests for students to meet deadlines (targets) or attend meetings that they would rather overlook. The examples mentioned above are assuming and encouraging a positive response, making it difficult for the student to respond negatively 13 www.iao.org
  • 16. Get Out And About Perhaps your highest contributions to managing behavior around the school area is your presence. Students will see consistency in your expectations for behavior both in and out of class, if you make yourself available outside the class well. You can have late-lunch and cup of tea with them. They will cultivate a habit to your involvement in social areas and your existence will gradually have an impact on their behavior. The associations you forge will be reinforced with opportunities for less formal conversation presenting them- selves every day. In more challenging institutions, there may be a tendency to evade social areas or stray way too far from teaching areas. Distribute Responsibilities At primary level, students’ trust can be motivated through sharing and delegating tasks in the classroom. An efficient Grade 5 teacher will have students handing out resources, clearing and cleaning the room, preparing areas for distinct activities, drawing blinds, etc. This way, the student will learn to share responsibilities and accept accountability for them- selves. It is often assumed that primary school teachers guide students to be independent and secondary school teachers guide them not to be. Year 7 students are often astonished when their responsibilities for the classroom is detached. www.iao.org 14 Proactively Emerging Associations with Students Choose your opportunities to build a relationship with a student carefully. Try opening up a casual conversation when a student appears relaxed and unguarded. Give the student something they are interested in or just greet them in a friendly manner. You may choose to wait until you find a situation that is not pressured or time-limited. Rather than launching into a lengthy and involved conversation, aim for little and friendly conversations. Remember, your intervention may be uninvited initially. Your aim is to moderately encourage the students to create trust. Remember! Your approaches can be rejected. The students may be testing you to see how committed you really are to grow the relationship. They may not welcome any casual conversation with you because it is easier for them to deal with a conflict than a relationship of trust. Give your time spontaneously and expect none in return; in time with persistence, your reward can be a positive associa- tion that might astonish others.
  • 17. Duty at the school gates Many teachers are not interested in giving a duty at school gates. The complications of unwanted visitors communicating with students as they arrive or leave are compounded by the confusion of where the teacher’s power lies. Yet, just as you can cultivate a positive environment in the classroom by standing at the door greeting students or reinforcing positive behavior at the end of the lesson, so you have an impact at the school gates. Remember! Students can read your physical and verbal language as they pass; if you are confident, calm, positive, gentle, smiling and can fortify students who are following the rules and regulations, it will eventually set the right tone. Your behavior has the greatest impact on how safe your students feel. It may not be a good thing to try and challenge every incident of negative behavior immediately and in public. In the end… Behavior management is one of the major challenges that all teachers usually face. It is quite critical to understand that all situations and classes differ. Teachers must quickly figure out what works with a particular group of students and when. Some of the teachers are naturally strong in this thing while others have to work really very hard to enhance behavior management strategies in their classrooms. Don't just get down, get way down! It is often said that getting down to the eye level of the student is important when appraising or penalizing them. This can often be understood as leaning over the students rather than standing over them or sitting down very next to them. Most of the academic specialists observed that teachers who believe that they are at the eye level of the student still demand the student to look up at them. Teachers who do this know that squatting down lower than eye level is not weak but assertive and confident physical language. When you are delivering penalties there is very low chance of an aggressive reaction, and when appreciating, you can generate a more private space in the room. If you are in an open space and want to speak to the students standing at the other side of the room, make sure you double the private space that you permit the student or stand alongside with him or her to have a similar effect. Classroom makeover With the emergence of the interactive whiteboard and use of technology for teaching, many classrooms are returning to students in rows with the teacher’s desk at the front and in the corner. Many years back the classroom was organized for the student to see blackboard, now technology has substituted chalk and blackboard but the difficulties of inflexible classroom configurations remain same. When designing the outline of your room you also want to reflect the management of behavior. With students in rows and the teachers sitting beside their desk, there are many hiding spaces for students to escape to. If you cannot get to students promptly and easily then the schoolroom becomes a field where discussions about behaviors are broadcasted for everyone to perceive. Confrontations become more regular, appreciation becomes subtle and as the teacher retreats behind the desk the physical divide can easily develop into a psychological one. As a response to the overuse of the blackboard, much work was done to motivate teachers to use more active classroom formations. Desks in rows with the teacher’s desk at the front make the management of behavior tougher, stifles gentle human interaction and force conversations to be broadcasted publicly. 15 www.iao.org

  • 21. www.iao.org According to Schawbel recognized as a 'personal branding guru' by The New York Times, says, that youngsters should create their LinkedIn profile early as their senior year in the high school. Even if the profile is just like a bare-bones list of where you attend high, your awards and recognition, your extra-curricular activities, what you see as your skills, and a summary of the sort of career that may interest you. Include jobs and internships you may have done during your term time, like working at a summer camp or any other placements. They show that you’re a business person and have shouldered responsibility. As you cultivate and gather more work experience, you can delete your early jobs and add new ones. It can be really helpful to start structuring your list of connections early. There are adults and professionals who have LinkedIn profiles with multiple contacts. Do connect to as many people as you can. Most students figure that because they already have an account on Facebook, they are socialized enough. But the fact is most of the employers look in LinkedIn profile to search for a candidate. It actually looks good if an employer would be able to find you on LinkedIn as it is a network designed only for professionals. 19 Create a LinkedIn Profile Establish A Presence On WordPress Or Through Your Own Blog According to one of the survey, only one in nine students has a presence on WordPress. It is the best site to generate your personal blog. Now the important question is what should your blog express? If you don’t know what career path you want to choose in the future, pick a personal interest and write about it.
  • 22. Get an internship as early as possible Get Creative about Finding a Mentor Like establishing a LinkedIn Profile and blog is important, it is believed that it is never too early to start getting internships. According to a survey, students are aware of the value of internships but they are falling to land them. 85% of the students said that they believe having an internship is either important or very important for their career, 52% said that they wish to have 3 or even more months internship before graduating. However, only 40% had done at least one internship after graduating. It is good for a student to have internships early on with companies that have brand recognition. For example, if a student has complet- ed an internship in Reebok, he will be convinced that having the Reebok name mentioned on his resume can help him land good jobs in future. Forbes, an American Business Magazine reported in a survey that, 70% of the students had at least one mentor, 37% of them said that their parents are their mentors, while 28% said that they relied on a professor. 21% said they used a family member or friend and 17% said their current or former employer was their mentor. Only 10% said they found a mentor through social networking sites. It is understandable why students turn to their parents, family and friends, but it recommendable making use of social network to search for a mentor, unless your parents are working in a field you want to pursue. It is advisable to find someone who is doing what you want to do. Search more thoroughly on LinkedIn for the organization and field where you wish to work. For example, if you want to work in advertisement and MTV is your dream company, enter keywords to search and see who comes up. Or else if you are more interested in Human Resource and you fantasize about working in Google, search with those words. Try to connect with them via LinkedIn or any other platform. It is potentially difficult but if you get one mentor, it can change everything for you. www.iao.org 20 It is quite difficult to imagine how many resumes an HR Executive, recruitment manager or headhunter have to read each day but it’s a lot. Thus, it is really important for you to create an impactful resume to impress the employers. Make your resume is easy to read and eye-catching. However, there are certain steps you need to follow to make sure that you are on the right track. First of all, proofread your resume or make it proofread by some professional. Errors in the resume are inexcusable, a potential employer will interpret these as careless mistakes and lack in attention to detail. Secondly, keep it simple. You should keep everything consistent such as spacing, font size and style, and formatting. The perfect CV should not be more than 2 pages. Make sure you summarize all experiences and abilities to make it short and readable. Prepare and Design Your CV Carefully

Is the perceived value of accreditation for Education providers & Students? What is your opinion? Any accreditation system is a kind of self-evaluation for education providers which indicates our area of improvements to cater students' academic & professional needs. Do you think IAO's international accreditation has made a difference in the world of education? It's a good initiative by IAO. It's a commutative world. The accreditation process could be much more intensive. What are your biggest challenges as a chairman? What is your philosophy for effective teaching methodology? There will be different mindsets of students in classrooms. And thus, it's our greatest challenge to bring all of them to the expectations of today’s global market. To overcome this challenge, our mentors play a vital role to bridge the gap between students' expectations and mentors' teaching methodologies. For the last few years, we have observed many students are opting for non-traditional methods of education, like distance learning etc. Do these alternative methods produce equally competent graduates? Distance education makes it accessible for students to study as per their flexibility and priority. It entirely depends on how the student makes the maximum out of it. Distance learning trend is on its rise and gaining its popularity all over the world. The purpose of DL is growth and thus we will continue to strive irrespective of the form of education. Given a hike in tuition fee in recent months, do you predict a decline in overall enrollment in higher education institutes? To some extent, it might be right. But students and parents are completely aware of their educational future plans. Hence, they properly plan the financial requirements for their higher education. Students with perfect vision never give up their studies of what so ever the circumstances. 23 www.iao.org Education is the most powerful weapon which we can use to change the world. “ “ Do you think technological advancement has helped in effective learning for students or is it more of a distraction?
