• The scale was friendly in the morning.
• My weight was down.
• I had to fast before taking a blood test to measure my cholesterol.
• I skipped breakfast.
• After the blood test I was hungry.

2. Yesterday was a Perfectly Awful Day
• I left the doctor's office and went to the supermarket.
• Then the trouble started.
• With good intentions. I went straight to the salad bar.
• But I made foolish choices.
• There were potato, shrimp, and pasta salads.
• Salad is good, is it not?

3. Yesterday was a Perfectly Awful Day
• I filled a takeout container with all kinds of salads and bread pudding.
• At the office, I ate all the mayonnaise slathered salads, and buttery bread
pudding.
• I had a whole turkey hoagie for lunch.
• I made believe I could indulge because my weight was down; I had skipped
breakfast, and I was eating salads.

4. Yesterday was a Perfectly Awful Day
• For dinner, I ate a controlled portion of fish, as usual.
• I also ate corn on the cob with butter substitute.
• (Corn is a vegetable is it not?)
• I ate sautéed spinach (another veggie).
• I forgot that I sautéed the spinach with lots of oil.

5. Yesterday was a Perfectly Awful Day
• I had not done anything awful.
• But mayonnaise, bread pudding, hoagie, corn, and generous oil in the spinach
add up.
• The scale was not friendly this morning.
• One day of indulging undid several weeks of self-control.
• I regained what I had lost.

6. Yesterday was a Perfectly Awful Day
• So, yesterday was a perfectly awful day.
• It happens all the time.
• Too late, I heard my critical part point out:
• "You could have taken the cottage cheese on the salad bar."
• "You could have picked the melon."
• "You should have skipped the hoagie."

7. Yesterday was a Perfectly Awful Day
• I could hear my impulsive part say:
• "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. So what. I did what I did."
• I gave myself these suggestions. (My inner helper helped).
• Today is today.
• Regrets are a waste of time.

8. Yesterday was a Perfectly Awful Day
• Better look ahead.
• Better yet, start right now.
• Look for healthy recipes.
• Broil fish or beef for dinner.
• Add simple salads and plain veggies to the next few meals.
