I have been working in rural areas and communities, functioning independently within certain
guidelines and protocols.
Promoting community wellbeing and educating patients.
Basic antenatal care and postnatal care as well as first assessment of the newborn baby.
Child health and immunisations for part of my tasks even if I have a enrolled nurse working with
me.
Screening and testing for HIV and Tb daily and the follow up steps and treatment according to
the test result. Educating these patients on what these diseases are and trying to get rid of
biases/myths.
The chronic patients can be challenging, especially the diabetics and I have started a diabetic
group in the hope they will support each other. Dietician helps also with this group.
I only have a doctor once per week for a few hours, thus I have to book patients according to
severity of complaint.
I am aware of my shortcomings and not afraid to ask questions or refer the patient to nearest
hospital.

improve their general health and not only acute illnesses.
