People want to be able to take their search with them.
They expect to be able to search whenever and wherever they want.
Go to any event now - a sports match, concert, conference and you’ll see people taking photos, typing social media posts and searching for information.
People don’t leave home without their smartphone.
Mobile devices are becoming our lens to the world.
Let’s talk about the current mobile landscape in the US and go through some of the data around mobile today and where it is headed.
This is hugely important for talent acquisition professionals and shows the potential of mobile recruiting.
People are using these devices all the time, wherever they are.
The number of tablets being shipped is now greater than desktop and notebook PCs – and significantly, this level of growth happened much more quickly.
As a result, more and more people have another device to access the internet with.
Smartphones are fuelling the move towards mobile, whereas people tend to use a mobile OS on their tablets which exaggerates the mobile challenge facing organizations.
As mobile traffic and job search from mobile continues to increase, we have reached the mobile moment.
Job search has evolved from a desktop activity to a mobile one.
Job seekers now take their search with them, browsing opportunities when it’s most convenient.
Most searches will come from mobile in the future.
The growth of mobile is a global trend – with many countries around the globe boasting well over 50% of searches from mobile.
People are happy to switch devices during the day, depending on what they are up to.
They use mobiles devices on the daily commute to and from work, their desktop during the day and then tablets at home in the evening.
While PCs are most popular during the working day, if you combine mobile and tablets, you’ll see that mobile operating systems dominate how most people access the internet.
This is hugely significant and shows the growth of mobile.
It’s important to recognize that mobile is always on.
It’s a myth to think that when people go to work they don’t use their smartphone. People can often access a mobile more easily than a desktop.
Unlike desktop, mobile job search is consistent throughout the day and peaks in the evening.
If mobile is not part of your recruiting strategy, you’re failing to reach a large pool of active candidates.
One of the most important characteristics of mobile job seekers that we’re keen to emphasize today is that they are more engaged than desktop job seekers.
They click, evaluate and research at least twice as many jobs as desktop users.
We’re now seeing that 51% of all applications on Indeed are mobile.
This is an incredible stat and shows that mobile job search is not a thing of the future, it is a reality today.
All the signs are pointing towards job seekers wanting job search to be mobile.
78% of people in the US would apply to jobs on their mobile devices if the process were simplified — an unprecedented opportunity for employers to reach their talent audience.
And importantly, 1/3 of people expect to rely on mobile more in their current or future job search.
The question employers need to ask is: are they ready to meet the expectations of job seekers?
How does it look to job seekers when an employer doesn’t provide a good mobile experience? It’s not very pretty. Jobs are hard to find and view – and the mobile-savvy consumer does not have a lot of patience for that type of experience.
This study found only 5% of Fortune 500 companies allowed job seekers to apply for jobs via mobile ]Source: iMomentous]. And it’s even less for other types of companies. That means not being able to take advantage of that 1/3 of job search traffic coming from mobile.
What can your organization do to connect with the mobile job seeker?
Finally, asking candidates to fill in their resume from a mobile device is unreasonable. Fields are too small and resumes are too complicated to easily cut and paste.
This leads to a very low mobile conversion rate.
Now let’s talk about solving that “last mile” problem – making sure people can apply to your jobs on mobile. Indeed provides a free solution that any employer can use – Indeed Apply. It allows people on any device to apply to your job. It’s continually tested and optimized across millions of mobile applies to provide the best possible experience for your candidates.
