2. Who were the Anglo-
Saxons?
The Anglo-Saxons were a group of ferocious tribes settling in
England in the mid 5th century, conquering Britain from Sweden
,Germany and Denmark . They were made up of the Jutes,
Angles, and Saxons.
4. The Beginnings
Originally, the Vikings
came over to Britain as
warriors, partially
displacing the Celts, but
others came peacefully as
farmers needing more
land.
5. They came, they saw, they
conquered.
The Anglo-Saxons
developed the English
language, which is now
known as Old English.
Most came actually as
farmers, some for war,
some in peace.
7. Farming
The Anglo-Saxons grew
many crops. The chief
crops were wheat, rye and
barley for grains, oats to
feed the animals, and
peas and beans which
were often eaten together
with the grains.
8. End of the reign
The Anglo-Saxons were
finally defeated in the
Battle of Hastings in 1066,
and the Norman era
began, leaving the Anglo-
Saxon era at an end.

They were often fighting each other, and there was
