Q 1: Define Biology?
Ans: The word biology is derived from two Greek words i.e. “bios” meaning “life” and “logos”
meaning “thought & reasoning”. So biology is the study of different aspects of living
organisms.
Q 2: What is the difference between botany and zoology?
Ans: Zoology is the major divisions of biology which deals with the study of animals.
While botany is the major divisions of biology which deals with the study of plants.
Q 3: Differentiate between Morphology and Histology?
Ans: Morphology: It deals with the study of the structures and shapes of living organisms.
Histology: It is the microscopic study of tissues.
Q 4: Define Biophysics?
Ans: In biophysics, we study the principles of physics, which are applicable to biological
Phenomena. For example, the working principles of lever in physics and limbs of animals in
biology are same.
Q 5: Define Biochemistry?
Ans: It is the study of chemistry of different compounds and chemical processes of living
organisms such as basic metabolisms of photosynthesis and respiration.
Q 6: Define Taxonomy?
Ans: It is the study of naming and classifications of organisms into groups and subgroups.
Q 7: What are fossils?
Ans: Fossils are the remains of extinct organisms.
Q 8: Define Biotechnology?
Ans: It is the latest profession in the field of biology. Biotechnologists study and work for the
production of useful products through microorganisms. It deals with the practical application
of living organisms to make substances for the welfare of mankind.
Q 9: Differentiate between Agriculture and Horticulture?
Ans: Agriculture: This profession deals with the food crops and animals which are the
source of food. An agriculturist works for the betterment of crops like wheat, rice, corn etc.
And animals from which we get food.

Horticulture: This profession includes the art of gardening. Horticulture works for the
betterment of existing varieties and for the production of new varieties of ornamental plants
and fruit plants.
Q 10: Discuss the work of Bu Ali Sina in Biology?
Ans: He is honoured as the founder of medicine.
He is known as Avicenna in the west due to its work.
He was a great physician, philosopher, astronomer and poet.
One of his books“Al- Qanun-fi al-Tib” is known as the canon of medicine in west.
Q 11: write down the name of books written by Abdul Malik Asmai?
Ans: “Al-Abil” “Al-khail”, “Al-wahoosh”, and “Khalq ul-insaan”.
Q 12: Give the example of complex community?
Ans: Communities are the collections of organisms, in which one population may increase
and others may decrease. Forest community is example of complex community. Forest
includes different plants, microorganisms, fungi, and animal species.
Pond community is also an example of complex community because it includes different
plants, animals, fungi, bacteria and other microorganisms.
Q 13: Discuss cell level and tissue level?
Ans: Cell level:Cell is the basic unit of life. In the case of prokaryotes and most protists, the
entire organism consists of a single cell. In the case of most fungi, animals and plants, the
organism consists of up to trillions of cells.
Tissue level:In multicellular organisms, similar cells performing similar functions are
organized into groups, called tissues. Each cell in a tissue carries on its own life processes
but it also carries on some special processes related to the function of the tissues.
Q 14: What are bioelements?
Ans: All types of matter are made up of elements and each element contains a single kind of
atoms. All the elements which are present in nature called bioelements.
Out of 92 kinds of elements that occur in nature, 16 are bioelements. These take part in
making the body mass of a living organism.
Out of these bioelements only six (O, C, H, N, Ca, and P,) make 99% of the total mass.
Other 10 collectively make 01% of the total mass.
Q 15: Name famous books of Jabir Bin Hayan?
Ans: His famous books are “Al-Nabatat” and “Al-Haywan”.

Q 16: Explain Medicine Surgery, career in Biology?
Ans: The profession of medicine deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in
human. In surgery the parts of the body may be repaired, replaced or removed, for example
the removal of stones through renal surgery, transplantation of kidney, liver etc. Both these
professions are studied in the same basic course (MBBS) and then students go for
specializations.
Q 17: What is organ system?
Ans: Different organs performing related functions are organized together in the form of an
organ system. In an organs system, each organ carries out its specific function and the
functions of all organs appear as the function of the organ system. For example digestive
system is an organ system that carries out the process of digestion.
Q 18: What is Biogeography?
Ans: It deals with the study of occurrence and distribution of different species of living
organisms in different geographical regions of the world. It applies the knowledge of the
Characteristics of particular geographical regions to determine the characteristics of living
organisms found there.
Q 19: What are parasites?
Ans: Parasites are the organisms that take food and shelter from living hosts and in return
harm them.
Q 20: Write the names of any four unicellular organisms?
Ans: Amoeba, Euglena, Paramecium and volvox are unicellular organisms.
Q 21: Define Species?
Ans: A species is defined as a group of organisms capable of interbreeding and producing
fertile offspring.
Q 22: Write down the scientific name of mustard plant and frog?
Ans: Mustard plant: Brassica campestris
Frog: Rana tigrina
Q 23: Define inheritance?
Ans: Inheritance means the transmission of characters from one generation to other.
Q 24: Differentiate between Macromolecule and Micromolecule?
Ans: The molecules with high molecular weights are called macromolecules e.g. starch,
Protein. The molecule with low molecular weights are called micromolecules e.g. water
glucose etc.
Q 25: Define science?
Ans: Science is the study in which observations are made, experiments are done and logical
conclusions are drawn in order to understand the principles of nature.
