The Eiffel tower was built between 1887 and 1889.

The Eiffel tower was constructed for the
International Exhibition of Paris. It was only
suppose to stay standing for the exhibition, but the
tower offered important needs to the people of
Paris . In 1909 the plan to tear it down was
upended because the tower could be used for
telegraphy. Then in 1918 French Radio used the
tower to send their signal. It also helped French
television in 1957 by sending signal out.
This is a old picture of the Eiffel Tower.
The Eiffel tower has a unique structure. The

tower is 324 meters (1063 feet) tall including
the flag pole. Constructing the tower took two
years with 300 hundred steel workers. To the
top it is 1652 steps and it has three platforms in
between. The tower weighs about 7000 tons
and was the largest building ever constructed
until 1930 when the Empire State building was
    built.
This is a picture of the Eiffel Tower in comparison to famous
                      American buildings.
The three platforms on the Eiffel tower are

filled with unique places. On the second
platform there is a restaurant called the Jules
Verne, which is very expensive. Jules Verne
was a very famous French scientific author.
You are required to have reservations to the
    restaurant because of the restaurants
popularity. On the third platform of the tower
there is a bar, a souvenir store and the office of
Gustav Eiffel. Gustav Eiffel is who the tower is
named after. He was a very good constructor
    who built the Eiffel tower.
This is a picture of the top platform of the Eiffel Tower.
The Eiffel tower is a great tour extraction. The

outstanding views are what sell people to the
tower. On the 2nd floor the view is the best
during the sunset. You can see miles away.
There are places to eat, drink and get a
    souvenir.
This is a picture of the view from the top of the Eiffel Tower.
There were many people who weren’t

supporters of the construction of the Eiffel
tower. A group of three hundred people
formed and signed a petition against the
construction of the Eiffel tower. Of the 300
people there were writers, artists, sculptors and
architects. They had claim the tower was
useless and a monstrous ugly tower.
The petition stated,


quot; We, the writers, painters, sculptors, architects

and lovers of the beauty of Paris, do protest
with all our vigour and all our indignation, in
the name of French taste and endangered
French art and history, against the useless and
    monstrous Eiffel Tower.quot;
Gustav Eiffel was born in Dijon in 1832. He

graduated Ecole central des Arts et
manufacturing when he was twenty three. He
is most famous for constructing the Eiffel
tower, but he did a lot more than that. He
supervised the construction of the railroad
bridge Bordeaux. He designed the United
    State’s Statue of Liberty.
This is a picture of the man who designed the Eiffel Tower, Gustav
                               Eiffel.
