SELF-DISCLOSURE
• Transferring information from the hidden self
to open self.
• Reveals selected information that is not
easily transparent.
• Based on feelings
• Can be consciously or unconsciously done.
• Usually involves some degree of risk.
ELEMENTS OF SELF DISCLOSURE
Self disclosure has following elements.
i. Feelings more than facts
ii. Greater breadth and depth over
time
iii. A focus on the present rather than
the past
iv. Reciprocity

Involves disclosure of nonthreatening
information
Reveals information that is easily
transparent
Based on facts
Information that can usually be acquired
in some other way
