Event: Ignite Phoenix 2
Event Date: October 29th, 2008
Ever thought of stepping away from tech and making a tangible product? Wanna do it in Phoenix? That’s what I did with OneLessDesk and I learned a few things along the way. I’ll share as much as I can in 5 minutes.
Prepare for weeks of sounding like an idiot to people who don’t have the time. Ask about factory reps - they help. Cold Calls Suck.
Focus on a great prototype. People will be polite to you sketches, but they’ll get truly enthusiastic when you have a real product. Greases the skids. The idea may be “real” to you as a drawing, but people other than you HAVE TO SEE it.
I learned the development of the packaging, ship box can be as involved and expensive as developing the product
Length + Girth?
Don’t skimp on photo’s! Get a professional, professional lighting. People are buying based on the pictures alone.
Do a pre-sale! Then go to manufacturing. Break even is the goal. Base your price on your most expensive, low volume manufacturing cost.
