Wilko 1996- present General/ Operations Manager
Following a 12 month training program, appointed manager of South Shields store.
Successful commercial performance provided the opportunity to set up and manage the flagship
store in Middlesborough. This concept store carried a sales budget of £6 million, retailing 25,000
products from 2 floors totaling 35,000 square feet, and employed 120 people within a 24 hour
operation.
2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Quantitative objectives. Sales, Costs, Shrinkage and Profit Contribution.
This incorporates targets, budgets, variances, trends,
cause and effect, financial ratios and data analysis.
Additional roles involve planning via forecasts and
scenario planning
Implementing Change. Managing strategic, operational and cultural change
whilst ensuring behaviours that support objectives.
Operational Management. Balancing task and resource across 12 teams and 24
hrs, to support a competitive strategy focused on
proposition implementation, service, availability and
presentational standards.
People Management. Within HR areas of recruitment, training/development,
appraisals, disciplinary, engagement and retention.
Stakeholder Management. Managing competing perspectives and objectives of
various stakeholders with differing power dimensions.
Legislation. Health and Safety including food hygiene, Retail Law
and Employment Law.
