During the 2014 ISIS crisis in Iraq, the Institute for the Study of War publishes a Terrain Control map when a major city or area is being contested, needs to be watched, or has changed hands. This is the 3rd in the set, covering July 3-21, 2014. NOTE: These maps are produced as needed, so they are not necessarily daily.

Mansouriyah, north of Muqdadiyah district, is an area that has been contested by the ISF, Iraqi Shi’a militias, and ISIS since the fall of Mosul on June 10. ISIS took over the mini-dam after clashes with ISF units stationed in its vicinity and the ISF is now attempting to retake the dam. On July 20, Iraqi Shi’a volunteers were reportedly flown in from the south in order to provide protection from possible ISIS advances in the area.
