2. Population: 6.2 million
people.
45% of the population
live in the rural area and
are mostly dedicated to
agriculture and cattle
production.
Women are 52% of the
population.
3. MAPNorway Program
The Mesoamerican Agroenvironmental Program (MAP) developed
by CATIE (Tropical Agriculture Center of Research and Teaching) is
focused on the development of Climate Intelligent Territories in four
countries of Central America (Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador and
Guatemala). This program is designed to contribute to solve core
problems (poverty, inequity and food insecurity).
A Climate Intelligent Territory is a geographic and social space
where mitigation and adaptation to climate change are
optimized through continuous improvement.
4. This program aims to:
Families: increase assets, diversify production and improve equity in family
decision making for food security of 5000 rural households.
Organizations: Improve capacity for linkages and access to better markets in
seven prioritized value chains of 30 business organizations and stakeholders.
Territorial management and massification: Actors of local, national and
territorial governance, civil society, universities and research centers promote
climate-smart management in the project territories.
