Dr. Steven Olsen presented on his research at the National Animal Disease Center. The facilities include ABSL2 and ABSL3 laboratories for small and large animals, as well as a BSL3 facility for agriculture research. The research focuses on Brucella abortus, the cause of brucellosis. Studies include the lipopolysaccharide structures of vaccine and field strains, as well as vaccine efficacy in cattle using RB51. Mapping shows the spread of feral swine and risk of transmission. Variance in immune response between ruminants is also examined.
