  • 35. Who Should Become an SFP? IFMA’s Sustainability Facility Professional (SFP) is designed for all FM and like-minded professionals with an interest in sustainable practices. It is ideal for: Facility management practitioners with a baseline of FM industry knowledge. FM professionals with proven experience transitioning into sustainability related positions. Related industry practitioners such as architects, designers and safety engineers. Facility-related product and service providers. CFMs and FMPs interested in expanding their depth of expertise in the area of sustainable facility management
  • 36. Steps to achieving the SFP: 1. Order the IFMA SFP Credential Program, an all–inclusive training and assessment program that combines comprehensive reading materials to help you learn about sustainable facility practices from an FM perspective, interactive online study tools to test your understanding and retention, and final SFP assessments to qualify you to earn the SFP credential. 2.  If you have limited experience in the FM industry, consider achieving your FMP first. Also, review Essentials of FM, an online introductory overview of the FM industry. 3.  Read the electronic/printed training materials and complete the online interactive study tools for each course to enhance your skills and knowledge. 4. Complete the three online SFP final assessments with a passing score. 5. Submit your SFP application (with application fee) to IFMA to validate your SFP credential.

Hinweis der Redaktion

  1. IFMA’s members only area is a primary benefit of membership primarily because of the Online Directory that can be used to network with your fellow IFMA members world wide. You can update your contact information here – it goes live into the database – as well as renew and more.
  2. One of the absolute easiest ways for you to maximize your IFMA membership is to take a few moments to read these e-newsletters when they hit your email box. I’ve had members tell me that they can hardly wait for the IFMA Insider to arrive. Insider is full of FM news and trends. The Wire is our Assocaition update newsletter, providing you information about the latest IFMA news, products, services, and more.
  3. IFMA’s FM research is a unique part of IFMA and available to you either free or at a deep discount
  4. The FMP can be achieved entirely self study with the materials and online assessments, or by attending courses, studying the materials, and taking the online assessment.
  5. The SFP does not compete with LEED, rather it compliments it. LEED certifies the building and the SFP is more than a building certification and rating system, it is an assessment-based certificate program demonstrating a proven comprehension of environmental stewardship and sustainability in facility management. This credential provides the FM with sustainability knowledge to operate a facility on a daily and long-term basis to achieve its desired performance goals. It helps facility professionals play a key leadership role in creating, managing and operating sustainable facilities by giving them the tools to continually improve their facility’s impact on the environment and the community. It also helps to bridge the gap between the professional and the property by teaching facility managers how to implement sustainability concepts that align with corporate strategy. In an nutshell, while LEED certifies the building the SFP certifies the FM professional. It arms the FM with the knowledge and resources necessary to operate and manage a facility in a sustainable manner regardless of the building rating system used and especially if the building is not classified under a green building rating system.
  6. As you are aware, as part of IFMA’s continuing efforts to magnify the role of the facility management professional and to help shape issues of importance to the profession, we have maintained an aggressive legislative monitoring and advocacy program in Washington, D.C.
