Part1 YOUThere are 4-6 questions in this part. It lasts for 4–5 minutes.
Introduction and Interview.
The examiner will introduce him or herself and ask you to introduce
yourself and confirm your identity. After checking your ID the
examiner will start the test by asking questions about yourself.
This part is all about YOU. The questions in this part include familiar
topics such as your home, family, work, studies and interests.

Part 1 Task
Focus
This part of the test focuses on your ability to
communicate information on everyday topics
and common experiences and situations.

Part 2 About
A Topic
It lasts for 3-4 minutes.
Individual long turn.
The IELTS examiner will give you a topic card. On the card, there will be a short
description of a topic, with some ideas for what to include. You will be asked to
speak on the given topic for one to two minutes.
The topic will be related to your personal experience, for example about
a gift someone gave you on your last birthday or an interesting place
you visited during summer holidays, etc.
After 2 minutes (or earlier if you have finished talking) the examiner will
interrupt and ask you one or two extra questions about the topic.

Part 2 Task
Focus
This part of the test focuses on your ability to
speak at length on a given topic using
appropriate language and organising your ideas
coherently.

(3) Connotation. Adequacy and appropriacy of the words used - the
neutral or negative association of some words like; slim, thin, and skinny.
(1) Range and variety of vocabulary.
(2) Collocation. (A collocation is a group of words that usually go together.
For example, in English, we usually say “heavy rain”. not “strong rain’”, “make
a telephone call” not “do a telephone call”.

Each criteria in IELTS speaking test is worth 25% of the total score.
You get a score out of 1-9 for each of the criteria, they are added together,
and the total is divided by 4.
