This was the third year the school participated in the event, which raises awareness of older people in society. Over the past two years, the school has raised over £4,000 for Age UK Solihull through 'Slip into Slippers' and other fundraising activities. The director of the school said they have developed a strong relationship with Age UK Solihull and look forward to continuing fundraising efforts through this event.

Balsall Common Primary School ‘Slips into Slippers’ for Older People’s Day
Balsall Common Primary School, part of Central Schools Trust, recently took part in ‘Slip
into Slippers’ where staff and children wore slippers for the day to raise money for Age UK
Solihull. Age UK Solihull is one of their favourite charities.
Lorraine Hart, Fundraising Manager at Age UK Solihull, says, “It was great to see so many
schools, staff and local business people take part this year. It’s an easy and fun way to raise
money for the charity, but at the same time there’s a serious message about the value of
older people in society, both at work and in the home, and this is a way to recognise all that
our parents and grandparents do for us.
“We are so pleased with the success of this year’s event. We started with only two schools
and, year on year, it’s grown in popularity.’
This is the 3rd
year that Balsall Common Primary has taken part and, over the last 2 years,
has raised £4,178 for Age UK Solihull from ‘Slip into Slippers’ and also ‘Flourishing Fivers’,
where the Year 5 children all receive £5 and have to get into teams and come up with
entrepreneurial ways to make their fivers ‘grow’;all the proceeds go to Age UK Solihull. They
also raised money from a Christmas concert last year.
Howard Rose, Director of Funding & Publicity at Balsall Common Primary School, said, “ We
have started to develop a really strong relationship with Age UK Solihull and ‘Slip into
Slippers’ has become firmly fixed on the calendar. I am pleased to say we have been able to
raise even more money this year through ‘Flourishing Fivers’. The children really enjoy the
day and it is a great way to support such a fantastic charity.”
If you are interested in taking part in ‘Slip into Slippers’ next year, please contact Age UK
Solihull’s Fundraising Team on 0121 704 7842 or email events@ageuksolihull.org.uk All
money raised will stay in Solihull to help Age UK Solihull offer advice, information and
practical support to the older people in the borough. The charity is located in The Core at
Solihull Central Library and information and advice is also available at The Hub, Chelmsley
Wood Library.
