29. Future Direction Recommendations

– Central, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest, & Northeast
• Build smaller comprehensive tutoring centers at each remaining
location – all sites should have support
• Ensure we have the proper infrastructure in place
– Add Full Time Tutor Positions
– Consider Full-Time Learning Associates
– 12 Learning Center Managers
– Regional Associate Director or Director to oversee each region
– The Director, Instructional Support would either stay a Director or move to an Executive
Director or Dean,
• Continue application for CRLA Certification
• Develop an evaluation program for the tutors
30. Future Direction Recommendations
• Conduct Program Assessments
Student surveys
Data analysis, trends, scheduling, and reporting
Coordination with the VC of Innovation & the Success and
Completion Department to prepare data analytics
We are transitioning and the Current Recommendation remains the goal for the structure of the department.
The Associate Director, Learning Support for Online stayed under the Distance Education Department under the oversight of
Director, Instructional Support – Amanda Vork hired January 2016
Manager, Learning Center (North) – Patrick Teoh hired August 2016
Manager, Learning Center (South) – Position closed November 2016 and is currently in Process
Manager, Learning Center (Central) – Position is still needed, budget needed
The goal is to have a Manager at each of the 12 Learning Centers eventually and a Regional Associate Director or Director to oversee each region. The Director, Instructional Support would either stay a Director or move to an Executive Director or Dean, and to have one full-time English and one full-time Math Tutor at each of the 6 Colleges
We were able to separate the budget for this department
The subjects we cover are in alignment with the top 10 high enrollment and low completion rate courses
We have also expanded our tutoring services to support the Centers of Excellence
The recommendations on temporary space was executed exactly as recommended
This is the model center and permanent space
Can not be replicated exactly at every site, so we have modified versions based on the resources, space, electrical and furniture we worked with
These slides are a few examples of repurposed temporary space
We will be keeping Southeast in these rooms, but will be reconfiguring the space
These are the plans for the Spring 2017 implementation in the current Writing Center at SE
We plan to convert this corridor as the space in B202 will become the Writing Center and all other subjects will be covered in these cubbies
This is the second half of the corridor
Note at NW; we are being told that we will have permanent space built out in the rebuild of Spring Branch and Katy
Again these are a few examples – we have been given space at NE Campuses as well
These are our hiring requirements
All new Tutors are Interviewing with the Director, Instructional Support
We have anywhere from 150 to 230 Tutors from the Spring 2016, Summer 2016 and Fall 2016 semesters
Note: This is the CRLA Requirements:
E. TUTOR SELECTION CRITERIA
Interview plus written approval of a content and/or skill instructor AND/OR Interview plus endorsement of tutor trainer and/or supervisor PLUS at least one of the following:
Grade of "A" or "B" in subject content being tutored
Documented experience equivalent to grade of "A" or "B" in subject content being tutored
We have executed the face-to-face training and the video series
We are in-process with working with ELOD on combining all training to one site
Rolled out Jun 2016
All topics are required to apply for CRLA Certification
We covered the required topics plus some for the face to face training component and supplemented Tutor Lingo, which is a video training series for other topics
We had 120 Tutors attend the retreat
We also administered a survey to gauge the effectiveness of the training
We had 11 different websites for tutoring previously and we took them all down and created 1
Implementation went through mid-fall 2016, so the first full semester of data that we will be able to capture is the Spring of 2017
Once the student enters their “w” number or scans their “Student ID” this is what the interface looks like and how we are able to capture key data
