Hi I’m Jeff. I’m assigned to set a telephone system for a
company. So I’ll do a full system configuration today.
Let’s work together on this and learn about S-Series
IPPBX along the way.
Before anything, we need to choose a model for this
company, there are about 80 staff in the office. Well,
let’s see what choice do we have first.

Now we’ve chosen a suitable model for a
company, let’s get started!
Now, we’ll logon the WebGUI for the first time!

3.1 HTTPS
This is the first thing you will see after logon, on S-Series IPPBX we logon through HTTPs.
Https, simply, is a encrypted channel for secure communication over a computer network. It
processes two certificates for server and client to protect the privacy. Because WebGUI is
not a public website, the web browser will alert you, don’t hesitate, believe us, just go
ahead and login.
Part 3 Basic Configuration

3.2 Password and Account
Step If you want to change the password, you need to input the old password and a new one,
then retype it. Also, you need to put in your email address to help you find the password back if
you forget it.
When you log in PBX for the first time, S-Series IPPBX will recommend you to
change your initial password into a stronger one.

After the confirmation of the login security, we
need to configure the network settings for the
LAN port and WAN port so that your S-Series
IPPBX will be able to get connected to local and
public network.

DHCP server in your local network ( for auto
provisioning of IP Phones, or other devices)
please remember to disable the DHCP server in
other devices in the same network, like your

WAN port
To enable the WAN port, you should choose the Dual Mode.
WAN port is disabled by default, you need to enable it before setting the
WAN port. WAN port can also be used to realize connection with local
network, so DHCP server is available on WAN port. On Bridge mode, WAN
port can be used to connect your PC or other equipment in local network, in
this mode LAN and WAN will be working as uplink and downlink of switch.www.senatelecom.com 30

[1]DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol): It is a communications protocol that network
administrators use to centrally manage and automate the network configuration of devices attaching to
an IP network. With DHCP, computers request IP addresses and networking parameters automatically
from a DHCP server, reducing the need for a network administrator or a user to configure these settings
manually.
[2]Static IP Address: Static IP addresses are manually assigned to a computer by an administrator. With it,
computers own a permanent IP address to access network.
[3]PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet): It is a network protocol sometimes used by broadband
modems for DSL Internet service. With it, computers access network with the residential gateway through

like as the default system prompt.

If your system has access to the Internet, you can easily download system
prompts in different languages. If not, you can download the prompt file that

Usually, the default date and time of S-Series
IPPBX are appropriate for China.
So we need to define the local date and time. It
is necessary to apply time condition setting in
call routing and some other features.

S-Series IPPBX supports Automatic Synchronize as well as manual setting. Step
4, 5 and 6 indicate how to set your time in the automatic mode. Step 7 shows
how to set it in the manual mode.

1. The administrator of a company need to apply a stronger
password and connect it with his email to ensure the security of their
communication system.
2. The company prefers defining a local prompt as their system
prompt.
3. The head office of a company is located in UK, they should change
the date and time to fix the local situation.
What should the administrator do for the settings?

Hey guys! Now we’ve finished the basic settings for
S-Series IPPBX. But it’s just the first step of the
whole setting process. So let’s turn to configure the
extension to realize a basic communication.

In step 2, it’s recommended to set the same number for extension, name, caller ID and
register name. The original password is generated automatically by the system, you can
customize your own password. We recommend that you set a complex one to guarantee

Concurrent Registrations
Note: The maximum number of Concurrent Registrations is 5, which means 5 devices at most can
share the same number. For example, the extension number 1000 not only can be used for the
phone in office, but also can be registered for the user’s mobile phone or the phone at home. If
someone calls 1000, the phone in office, the phone at home, and the mobile phone will ring at the
same time. Users will not miss any call when they go out of office for business trip.

A company has 80 phones that need to be registered
as extensions to make phone calls. It’s inefficient to
register them manually one by one. S-Series IPPBX
supports auto provisioning to help administrator save
time.
Auto Provisioning makes it possible to register at the
same time multiple phones automatically instead of
manually one by one.

After the registration of extension, S-Series
IPPBX will support internal interactions among
users in office.
But to realize normal communication with
people outside, we need to set up trunk
connection. So the next step is to define trunk
preferences!

IMPORTANT: Please contact your service provider to get correct parameters. Putting in
wrong parameters will make it impossible to use the trunk normally with your telephone
system.

Apart from the physical trunks, S-Series
IPPBX also supports VoIP trunks for
communication.

Usually if you are getting an SIP Trunk from service provider, we suggest that you
add a Register Trunk to register said trunk to S-Series IPPBX. DO REMEMBER to
get correct parameters from your service provider.

Service Provider is usually used to register other devices like other SIP Server or gateway
to S-Series IPPBX. So you have to put in the right IP Address of said device.

Account Trunk is usually used to connect two S-Series IPPBX deployed in two branch
offices. On one IPPBX, create an account trunk as shown above. On the other IPPBX, create
a register trunk with parameters you have set in the account. Once the registration takes
effect, branch offices are connected.

Multisite Interconnect

Multisite Interconnect is a function used to connect IPPBXs in branch offices. Among all
IPPBXs, one plays the role of headquarter and others are branch offices. We need to
register all branch offices to the headquarter while there’s no need to connect every two
branch offices.

The configurations of trunks are basic steps of
external communication settings. Now we need
outbound routes for calling out and inbound
routes for receiving calls from people outside.

Before we add outbound routes, please configure
Time Conditions firstly to design a timetable for the
office. It is really necessary to set time conditions as
we need to define outbound routes according to the
office schedule.

Remember to click APPLY to confirm the configuration. Configure the Outbound call route to define
how you like to send out phone calls. Once applied, all the phone calls made by selected
extensions will be sent through selected trunks. If Office Hour is enabled, this route is only

After setting outbound call rules, defined
extensions can call out through specific trunks
according to outbound rules.
But to realize a more convenient way of dialing,
we can define a dial pattern for a specific
outbound call rule so that only numbers dialed by
extensions that match the pattern can be sent out.

Remember to click APPLY to confirm the configuration. Configure the Inbound
call route to define how you like to receive phone calls. Once applied, all the
phone calls received by selected trunk will be sent to the configured destination
according to the Office Hour.
Step 8 Decide whether to enable an office hour time table, and define the corresponding
destination accordingly.
Step 9 Click Save to finish setting the inbound route

Now we’ve finished the settings of inbound routes, then
extensions in the office could receive external calls
successfully. If the company wants an audio attendant to
guide external callers to specific, we can confirm
preferences in IVR.
IVR (Interactive Voice Response) interacts with callers
through dialogue so that they can go to the desired
destinations by following the guidance. Let’s see how to
make it work.

The IVR number setting should match the IVR range in General Preference, as
shown in the below picture. Once you enable Direct Dial, a caller can directly dial
the extension number to reach corresponding extension. Prompt can be
customized by users, we will show you how to set prompt later.

1. A company has 80 IP phones to be registered, the administrator want
quick registration to save time.
2. Acompany has 1 GSM trunk and 4 PSTN trunks. What’s more, they want
to register a SIP trunk to its service provider.
3. The business time in a company is Monday to Friday, 9:00-12:00, 14:00-
18:00.
4. A company wants to enable the SIP trunk in specific outbound route for
extension 1000-1030 and enable PSTN trunks in an inbound route for
extension 1031-1040.
What can the administrator do to set up an appropriate
and efficient communication system for the company?

After the above settings, a company has set up a
common telephone system basically. They can use IP
phones for internal or external callings of business.
However, to create a better and more convenient
communication environment, we should do some
advanced settings for the company.

There are several departments with precise responsibilities
in a company. In most cases, some of them may
communicate with their customers by phone. So it is
necessary to direct calls according to departmental function.
We can set Ring Group to realize that.

4.1 Ring Group

A group of extensions are collected together as a ring group by administrator. So any call that matches
the routing condition will be accessible for all members in the ring group.

We support two ring strategies: Ring All and Sequentially. If choosing the
former one, all members will ring at the same time; if choosing the latter
one, all members will ring according to the order in the list.

Call parking allows extensions to put callers in waiting while dealing with other callers, instead of
hanging up the call.

For internal communication, S-Series IPPBX also support
Paging Group to make an announcement over the
speakerphone to a phone or group of phones.

4.3 Paging Group
Paging group number must be set within the range defined in General Preference as shown in the
picture above. Paging group is mainly used as a way to broadcast announcement. Once calling up the
paging group extension, all extensions in the group will hear the broadcast from the sponsor of
telephone. If enabling 2-way Intercom, all users can talk and be heard by all.www.senatelecom.com 96

Just talked to the company manager, she hopes that
she is able to hear the conversation while sales team
made phone call…Good thing is, S-Series IPPBX can
do that with Monitor function.
Monitor mode allows a supervisor extension to hear
the conversation taking place within the same
telephone system.

Only authorized extension will be spied. There are 3
monitor modes, Listen, Whisper and Barge-in. In Listen
mode, the supervisor extension can only hear the
conversation. In Whisper mode, the supervisor extension
can speak to the internal party while the conversation
between them won’t be heard by the external party. Barge-
in mode allow supervisor extension to speak to both sides.

In order to simplify some complex phone
numbers that the company always use, S-Series
IPPBX supports the speed dial to turn the
original phone number to a simple code, so that
it could be dialed out in an easy way.

The prefix of speed dial is used to trigger the speed dial, caller will only need to dial the
prefix followed by the source number, the call will be sent to destination number. For

To help clients to save the cost of external caller, the
administrator of a company can set call back. Once
the specific number that you have defined in the
call back rules calls in, S-Series IPPBX will hang out
automatically and call back through the chosen
trunk immediately.

Call back rules are rules for sending out the call. The rules have nothing to do with dial
pattern set in outbound rules, but need to be set according to actual cases. For example,
if the caller ID of the external number is 05925503399 and we need to drop 0592 when
calling back, we can enter value 4 in Strip.

It is common to see that a company uses
facsimile equipment to fax some documents
to their customers. To realize that via S-
Series IPPBX, we need to set up the FAX
settings.

Besides the system prompt, there are two
more kinds of prompts you should confirm:
music on hold and custom prompt. Music
on hold is played when callers were put on
hold; Custom prompt is customized prompt
played to callers under certain occasions
according to our settings.

4.9.3 Record A Prompt
Once deciding which extension to use, click
Record to trigger the recording. The system will
make a call to that extension. Pick up to answer
the call and once hear an indication, you can
speak to record the prompt.

The administrator of S-Series IPPBX has
permissions to configure all settings. At the
same time, he can authorize specific
permissions to common users. After the
authorization, users can log in the S-Series
IPPBX via their own accounts to do other
allowed configuration besides to check their
voicemail, recording.

4.10 User Permission
S-Series IPPBX offers 2 types of accounts: administrator and custom with different authorities to
get access to the administration and control of S-Series IPPBX. “Administrator” has the highest
authority and can realize all administration including managing all accounts. While users as
“Custom” can only check or modify some privileges that administrator has set specifically for
them. The default user name and password is their extension number.

1. A sales apartment has 20 staffs. The administrator wants to assign their
extensions 1050-1070 into a group so that all calls can be dealt with even if
some members are busy.
2. The marketing manager wants to announce something to extension 1000
to 1005 at the same time through paging.
3. The sales manager wants to spy extension 1060 and he only want to hear
the conversation between two parties in the conversation.
4. The administrator authorizes extension 1000 to configure the PBX settings.
What should the administrator do to realize the above
situations?

4.11 Conference Panel
Conference call is an in-demand function, but
users have to initiate and manage their
conference call by dialing features code. S-Series
PBX also offers a totally graphical conference
managing module. So you can handle conference
call directly in the Web GUI. Now let’s set a
meeting room and try to configure this meeting
room with our conference panel.

Besides the settings to improve the communication
system, we should also focus on the maintenance
of S-Series IPPBX. So now let’s know something
important parts of Maintenance.

Part 5 Basic Maintenance
5.1 External Storage

You can set one computer in the same local network as the device to store back up recording and
voicemail.

Step 1 Give a name to this network drive
Step 2 Put in IP address of the assigned computer
Step 3 Input the name of work group if you have set one

Step 6 Put in the login password of the computer

Click Backup to create backup file of S-Series IPPBX. If you have backup file

your computer. Also the existing backup can be downloaded to computer.

5.3 Firmware upgrade
5.3.1 HTTP Mode

Step 5 Put in HTTP URL to download new firmware
Step 6 Click Save to start upgrade
In HTTP mode, you can directly download the firmware upgrade from Yeastar
website by putting in the HTTP URL. If checking Reset Configuration Factory
Defaults, the system will be reset to default configuration after upgrade.

5.3.2 TFTP Mode

In TFTP mode, you can directly download the firmware from a local TFTP server. If

SIP data package for troubleshooting. You
need to put in the Information of the port

Apart from Ethernet capture tools, we also offer monitor tools for
analog ports, which will record conversation taking place in the
trunks for troubleshooting.

mathematical possibility of system breakdown,
we need to come up with a solution.

1. Have two pieces of exactly same equipment with the same model, the same
hardware and firmware version, the same modules installed in the same slots.
2. Link the two PBX in the same local network, one set as main server and the
other as backup server.
3. If main server breaks down, backup server will detect the situation and

• Set the PBX as secondary server, then put in the IP
address of the primary server. In access code you need to
set the same code as primary server.
• Set same virtual IP address as the primary server.
• In keep alive we suggest you keep the default settings.
