Case Study - Aircraft Maintenance Hangar
1. Johnson MarCraft Total Solutionā¢
Case Study: AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE HANGAR
Georgia
BUILDING DESCRIPTION:
SIZE: 22,500 square feet LOCATION: Georgia
TYPE: Aircraft Service & ASHRAE Summer Temperature = 75o/77o,
Maintenance Hangar ASHRAE Summer R.H. = 44%
CHALLENGE:
Some of the finest quality and most well-appointed
private and corporate aircraft are manufactured at this
facility. Georgiaās intense humidity and heat created an
environment where it was impossible to work or to store
sensitive, electrical and mechanical equipment.
Storing this type of equipment required a controlled and
tempered environment to prevent condensation around
the mechanical and electronic components. Additional
considerations involved avoidance of mold and/or
mildew in the passenger cabins and cockpits.
JOHNSON TOTAL SOLUTION:
One Johnson Air RotationĀ® heating and cooling unit was
installed and configured to use electric coils as āreheatā
for additional humidity control on demand, and
customized cooling coils and system controls that
guaranteed temperature and humidity controls within +
2o F and + 2% R.H.
RESULT:
One indoor, ductless, Johnson Air RotationĀ® unit,
which met the indoor design conditions, was all that
was needed to heat and cool this facility, eliminating
the need for the following:
Multiple roof-top air handlers with multiple roof
penetrations.
Expensive ductwork that requires periodic
dismantling and cleaning.
High-cost maintenance of roof-top air handlers vs.
floor-mounted Air RotationĀ® units.
Bonus: The Air RotationĀ® unit can be easily dis-
assembled and relocated to another facility if the need
arises at the end of the customerās short-term lease.
This company is one of the largest manufacturers of private and corporate aircraft. At this
facility, upgrades and modifications to elite aircraft are provided to customers on a contract
basis. This facility is also used as a demo site for future customers; it was extremely
important to have the indoor environment comfortable as potential customers tour the
facility and view the high-end products.
