estreham and hambro roads. as you’ll know the
rLF was founded in 1790 to provide funds and
bursaries to help train aspiring writers, and the topic
of this film is “Essay writing”. The producer said they
filmed here as they thought that bit of Streatham,

really lovely, so look for the final output on their

Benson's Funfair
Benson’s Funfair has visited streatham
Common for over 50 years. Proud of its heritage
spanning several generations of showmen, they
also open regularly at many other parks in the
area, as well as the annual Country show and
a Christmas Fair at Windrush square, and have
built up a strong and lasting relationship with
Lambeth Council.
We would like to take this opportunity to
reassure everyone that Benson’s Funfair
always pays great respect to the open spaces
in which we work, in Lambeth and beyond, and
do our utmost to leave any site in the same tidy
condition in which we find it. We always take
steps to protect the ground, particularly as we
arrive and leave the area, and readily make any
small repairs which are sometimes unavoidable.
We even took the regrettable decision to cancel
our visit to Brockwell Park in april due to the very
wet weather, as we would have clearly caused
too much ground damage.
Please note that we are not in any way
associated with the circus operators who
attended streatham Common in march this year,
who, we were told, left the site in an appalling
state. We are often complimented by local
residents on the respect with which we treat
them and their local parks.
Our main aim is always to bring fun and joy to
the local community, so please do pay us a visit
soon!
Check out our Facebook page at
www.facebook.com/MLFairs/ for a chance
to win FREE ride tickets and our website at
www.mlpleasurefairs.co.uk for upcoming
venues, dates and opening times.
Father’s Day has been celebrated in roman
Catholic communities as the feast of st Joseph
since medieval times, but the day we’ll celebrate
fathers and paternal role models comes from
the Usa, traditionally on the third sunday in
June, this year 17th June.
so, here’s the plan to make Dad’s day. First stop
from midday (give him a lie-in; he’ll appreciate
it) is Streatham Odeon. Playing at press time
were solo (star Wars franchise) and the new
Marvel film. Both are Dadtastic, but my personal
recommendation, if it’s still on, is a Quiet Place,
an incredibly moving story about fatherhood.
After the film, nip into Blackbird Bakery for
coffee and pick up some tasty delights. You
especially want a sourdough loaf for dad’s lunch
tomorrow. From there, head up the high road to
Talay Thai for a tasty late lunch with a special
offer of free beer for Dad with his meal, followed
by moreish tequila cocktails at El Chico’s.
supper is at The Mere Scribbler. he really
wants to tuck into the mere scribbler’s mouth-
watering hamburgers on brioche with serious
fries. Watch him eat without speaking for several
minutes. trust me on this, the burgers are that
good! Order him what he wants to drink, but I
highly recommend their Burlesque “Old Vine”
Zinfandel from California. there just may be
some sport he likes on the telly, in which case it
will be showing on the scribbler’s screens.
there you have it – Dad had a great day; the
bank is not broken, and all can be done on foot-
right here in streatham. enjoy!

a few weeks ago, we were invited to sample the
sauciest brunch in streatham – and we don’t
mean sriracha! When we arrived at exhibit B,
just after 2.30pm on a Saturday afternoon, it
was already packed with partying people ready
for free-flowing fun and prosecco from 3pm
at the Boozy Bougie Drag Brunch. Brunchers
were mostly female (there were a couple of hen
parties in the house) attractive, young, lively,
and ready to boogie, and clearly au fait with the
fashion for all things drag in the likes of Balham,
shoreditch and Camden.
But is Streatham ready?
exhibit B revellers gave a resounding Yes! two
of the most glamorous drag queens in London
strutted their stuff, and even sashayed out onto
streatham high rd followed by quite a few of
their fans. there was a little dancing on the
pavement in the sunshine until the manager
shoo-ed them back inside. even motorists stuck
in the usual A23 traffic smiled, agog at the
spectacle – including a police van that stopped
for a friendly chat.
Tickets cost £35 and include a brunch dish with
an hour-and-a-half of bottomless bubbles from
3pm, with drag performances from 2.30pm ‘til
7pm. We had the classic smashed avocado and
poached eggs on sourdough (menu price £7)
and a full english breakfast (£10.50), both of
which were good, but we were most impressed
by the excellent silver medal-winning prosecco.
It really did flow freely – empties were promptly
replaced with fulls, and the waiting staff were
charming and efficient.

performances throughout until 7pm, lip-syncing
and strutting to pop classics spun by DJ Jennifer
Joy-ride. People were soon up to boogie along
to pop classics from DJ Jennifer Joy-ride’s
decks, and we can report that streatham’s got
moves! We retired (and emotional) before the
catwalk competitions, team games and dance-
offs after an unforgettable afternoon!
It’s no surprise that exhibit B, won the time Out
Love London awards 2018 for 'most loved club/
party and most loved bar/pub' in streatham-
everyone seemed to be having a ball. the bar
looks great inside, with a giant fish tank, a long
cocktail bar, and a dark room that’s used for
an eclectic and ever-changing range of events
from silent cinema screenings, debates, life
drawing to private hire. the exhibit B now has a
late weekend licence, and their DJs and dancing
make it a top night spot.
We had a lot of fun at exhibit B, and we’ll be
back for more – got my eye on sunday roasts
with bottomless roasties and Yorkshire puds
