Heart of Mersey was established in 2003 and became a registered charity in 2005. An independent organisation, it is mostly funded by the NHS and local authorities across the sub-region of Cheshire and Merseyside. We manage programmes of work underpinned by our own research activity that focus on the conditions that actively contribute to ill health such as poor diet caused by too much salt, sugar and saturated fat, smoking and physical activity. We provide a strong local voice for regulatory activity and policy at regional, national and international levels, to promote an environment in which healthier choices – particularly around food, tobacco and physical activity - are made easie
