2. Style sheet – Colours (Black)
The colour I have began to explore is the colour black. This may be a main theme of my album as this colour represents passion. I think that
the colour black works well with almost every colour so it will definitely be a colour that I use for a font, background or any extra items on
the product such as a social media logo. This colour is also a good colour to contrast other colours with. It can make any other colour stand
out and works very well as a background. I have collected some images of album covers to show how well this colour works. I believe that
this colour is a very strong colour to use because of the many ways it can be used to compliment styles, colours and images. I think I would
use this colour as a clothing colour when doing photography or maybe as a font colour as it could appear quite menacing so people will feel
this mood when listening to the album.
3. Style sheet – Colours (Red)
The second colour that I have made a style sheet on is the colour red. This colour is also a colour that I plan to use because of how
noticeable this colour is. This colour has been proved to be one of the most noticeable colours when used in branding so I plan to use this
colour on either my album or my animation. What this colour represents is anger, love, danger etc, so this will definitely help me to deliver
the message of the tone of my album to the audience. I collected a picture of some hip-hop style clothing and also some hip hop albums
that include the colour red. I think that these albums are very eye-catching and I would want to but them because now that I have noticed
them, the images begin to intrigue me. For example, I want to know why this artist is sat down on stage not enjoying himself and why the
other artist looks unhappy. I am thinking about these things because of this colour so I will definitely want to create this effect with my
audience.
4. Style sheet – Colours (White)
The colour that I am analysing now is the colour white. Although this colour may appear boring, plain and simple, I feel that it has a lot of
potential to make a product very interesting. I feel this way because of what the colour represents. For example, this colour represents
purity and innocence, so using this on a hip hop cover can be very controversial/contrasting as hip hop is sometimes quite infamous. This
clever technique is a good way to attract audiences as they may want to find out why such a colour is being used on an album that talks
about things that are considered taboo. Aside from this, I think the colour white can also be used in similar ways to the colour black. For
instance, it goes well with a lot of colours and can be used to balance out the lightness in a dark looking product. I think that I would use this
colour as a font or maybe a background. I would have it as something noticeable so that the audience is drawn to it.
5. Style sheet – Colours (White)
The final colour that I have made a style sheet on is the colour blue. I find this colour very attractive and will most likely use this in my final
product. I think that I will use this colour in the title to convey the sad emotions of the artist towards the audience. I may even make the
title of the album blue and red to show the change of mood from anger to sadness and regret. This colour represents depression, loyalty
trust etc, which are some main topics of many hip-hop albums. After knowing this, I feel that it is essential to use this colour in my product
to really show the true genre of this album. There are two examples of hip hop albums that use the colour blue in them. I think it works very
well but I need to make the genre clear through fonts or clothing if I am going to use this colour because blue isnt always the main colour on
a hip hop album.
6. Style sheet – Fonts (Other)
These fonts that I have collected are all fonts that I plan to use on all the side products such as the animation or the tracklist. For example, I
plan to use the glitch font in the animations I want the release date of the album to glitch through some animated smoke. I think this will be
an effective product because it will start of simple but then the exciting part will happen for a split second and then the audience will want
to watch it again and again to figure out what is happening. This font would also look good on the merchandise because it looks similar to
existing products that sell well.
The second font that I have chosen is called “The Jacatra”. This font is classic hip hop style and I think I will use a graffiti font similar to this in
my tracklist. I have the idea that I will have a picture of the artist stood next to the tracks on a brick wall. This font doesn’t really represent
anything for my artist. For other artists, I believe it could represent their street background. I think that I could create a good and realistic
graffiti technique for my tracklist using this font.
The last font, “Mentha Rapture” would be a good font for some merchandise. I think this would be good for merchandise because it looks
like it should be on merchandise. I wouldn’t have it as my title because it is fairly hard to read so the audience would have to spend a while
trying to figure out what it says and who its by.
7. Style sheet – Fonts (Sans)
These fonts that I have collected are all fonts that could potentially be used for my album title or artist title. My reasoning for this is that these
fonts are clear to read and very obvious to notice so the audience will be interested in what the product is if it catches their eye. The only
problem with a sans font like these is that they blend in as quite a lot of products use them.
The first font is “Capicola Sansish”. I feel this font would work extremely well as a font for the name of my artist. On one side it doesn’t
represent who my artist is and what the album is about but on the other hand, it has audience appeal due to how neat and easy it is to read.
Audience appeal is very important because if there was no audience appeal on a product, it would not sell or gain interest.
The second font is “Bebas Neue”. I have used this font in previous projects and I found it to be very effective as a side font (not a main font).
This was because it wasn’t eye-catching enough. It wasn’t very bold compared to other fonts and it looked similar to other fonts. I could use
this font as the song names on the back cover of my album due to how easy it is to read. The only problem with this is that the audience may
get bored of looking at it after a while.
The final font is called “Coluna”. This font is quite a stretched font so would be good for an artists name on the album as it would be
noticeable. If the audience notices the artists name, they will be more likely to pick the product up and gain an interest on the product
because they recognise the product.
8. Style sheet – Fonts (Hip hop style)
I have collected some fonts that follow hip-hop styles and then collected some existing hip hop logos/titles. I like the “Edo
SZ” font because of its informal and messy look. It is similar to the N.W.A logo which is very effective because it represents
the groups resistance to authority well due to its untidy edges. I think this style of font shows that the artist does not follow
by the rules and they will do as they like and it also has a personal touch because of its handwritten look. I may consider
using this type of font as my title or on a tour poster.
The “Relapse” font is also very effective because of the way it appears to an audience. I found it similar to the title of an
existing hip hop album named “Cheers”. I think this style of font with a title such as “Cheers” is very effective because it has a
sarcastic tone to it. What I mean by this is that the harsh and quite intimidating font is used to deliver a kind hearted
message; “Cheers”. This is a good technique that I may consider to use in my album title or artist name.
The last font is called “Rapscript”. I feel that this font is neater than the rest but still contains those sharp edges that may
come across as malicious or intimidating. A font like this could be used on the back cover of an album as it is clear to read,
but the audience still gets that sense of fear and classic hip hop when reading it.
9. Style sheet – Image styles
The image styles that I have chosen to look at are all styles that look effective. I think the middle photo would be the most
suitable for my album cover as this represents classic hip hop albums. The first photo is also something that I think is effective.
The reasoning for this is that because the artist is turned around, we don’t know what the album will be like as we cant see his
face. The music will be a surprise to the listener which is good audience appeal. I think this could be a good technique that I could
use because it is simple to create. There isn’t a lot of editing I could with this type of photo after if I choose this style however.
The third photo is a good image style because there is a lot of editing that I could do with a style like this.
