Climate adaptation - A wake up call for the utilities sectorHans Olav Hygen
This document summarizes the impacts of climate change on utilities in Norway. It shows that temperatures in Norway are increasing and precipitation patterns are changing, with more heavy rainfall events and shorter snow seasons projected by 2060. These changes will impact hydrological systems and increase flooding risks. The document concludes by emphasizing the need for utilities to adapt operations and planning to the new climate realities shown by climate modeling down to the local level in order to prepare infrastructure for future weather and climate.
A speach at EMS 2016 about how MET Norway and Nationalteateret adapted the classic play by Sheaksepar into a modern play where climate change plays a role.
Klima 2050 is a research centre financed by the Research Council of Norway and industry partners to focus on long-term climate research. The goal is to enhance business innovation by forging close relationships between research groups and companies. Klima 2050 aims to reduce risks from climate change like increased precipitation and flooding by developing moisture-resistant buildings, stormwater management solutions, landslide prevention, and policies to incentivize adaptation. The research will address both extreme weather and gradual climate changes.
Ems2016: Providing climate information for local authoritiesHans Olav Hygen
This document discusses providing climate information to local authorities in Norway. It outlines variables like temperature at different spatial and temporal scales. It also notes that Norway has 428 municipalities with populations ranging from 196 to 662587 and an average of 12236 inhabitants. The document states that climate services can provide municipalities with climate profiles, information on their needs and key climate challenges.
