7- The course itself sounds very practical, With it being in
MediaCityUk it becomes vey appealing.
14. To me media is about the intensity of words; it can dominate, it can spread ideas to thousands of people; it can
make people think about the society which we have all become accustomed to. Becoming a journalist has been
a long-held passion for me. As a journalist, I would aspire and strive to get my words heard. I am hoping that
studying a course which will challenge me, excite me and will benefit for my aspirations for a future in
journalism. My main interest in studying a journalism course is to learn the law and ethics of journalism as well
as working in print and online reporting. Eventually I would like to work for a more liberal left leaning paper
such as the Guardian.
I am also interested in magazines. A huge inspiration to me is Catherine Mayer who is also the co-founder and
President of the Womenâs Equality Party. Her journey through journalism is very inspiring especially when she
launched a lawsuit against TIME for sex and age discrimination. She stands for up for what she believes in, this
is the type of journalist I would like to become.
From a very young age, I knew that I wanted to have a career in creative writing. However, over recent years it
has become clearer from the decisions I have made which sector of writing I want to be in. As a GCSE option, I
undertook Media which led me to choose my college course where I am studying a Level 3 UAL Diploma in
Creative Media Production and Technology.
At York College, I have learnt many different skills, I have learnt how to produce my own 90 second short film,
create a video game and also have used InDesign to create numerous magazines. My recent project is to create
a Fanzine based on anything, I have chosen to create a Feminist Fanzine with interviews from the feminist club
at college and this is something which I am interested in as it is the type of journalism I would like to go into
after university. For my Final Major Project at the end of the year I am hoping to create a refugee specialised
magazine. This would include interviews with refugees and refugee charities.
