This game is a Basketball ball game. The game has a very simple
colour theme with the blue and red scoring board. They use rather
competitive colours, the uniforms are either red, blue, green or
white. These all have rather competitive connotations.
Consequently, the basketball court is all lit up where as the
background with the chairs and the reporters are rather darker. As
you can see in this screenshot the video game is located in a
stadium where many basketball supporters can watch. The actual
concept of this game is rather simple. The objective is to shoot as
many hoops as possible, the characters are rather stereotypical
players as they are rather tall and look the part. This is very helpful
to know for my own game which I want to make. It is helpful
because I can use some of the same colour theme which these
people who made the game have used. When winning a point, it
makes a ping noise. I think this makes you want earn more points
and beat the other team as well it builds a hype which makes you
want to play on. The soundtrack is very fast tempo which can give
the player some motivation to get more upbeat and win the game.
The font and players are very pixelated which shows that the
people who have created this game put so much detail in. I think
the only thing which would have made the game a bit better would
be having the audience reacting to the scores. I think if I choose
my game idea ‘Shoot the Hoop’. This example would have a vast

Space Invaders is considered the father of all shooters and
remains one of the most popular and influential games in
history. Many old school games have the same colour theme.
The game has a very dark colour theme but the colour
themes blend really well. The Black and white stands out and
gives it a retro aspect whereas the red and green give the
enemy concept. I am considering this kind of idea for my
video game. Mainly because it will be rather easy to create
and it will be simple to add original soundtracks. The
soundtrack is rather high pitch and has two different sound
effects. One for when they your team are being hit and one
for when you are shooting at the enemy. As you can see in
this screenshot the video game is meant to be located in out
of space. When this arcade game first came out, everyone
was obsessed with it. Maybe if I recreated a different but
similar game to space invades it would potentially have the
same effect on the audience. There is many ways how to play Space invaders. There
are apps which you can get on a android or apple phone.
You can play it online as well as these ways, you can even
play them in arcades.

This game is called Need For speed which was
released in 2005 created by Electronic Arts Canada
and can be played on a PlayStation and Xbox. The
concept of the game is set in a open world
environment which the player selects one car and
competes against other racers in three events. Cops
are integrated into certain racing sessions in which the
police deploy vehicles to stop and arrest the player.
This racing game has low key lighting and has a very
beige colour theme which runs throughout the game.
The game features a lot of cars which are more
superior than the others. The font is very basic and
stands out from the background. There is no
soundtrack to the game as it is mostly just the car
noises which is being heard. You can here when they
car breaks and bumps into something. I think if I did a
racing game I would add a soundtrack involved. It
would be something upbeat which would motivate the
player and would help bring the game to be upbeat. By
there being many sequels to the ‘Need for Speed’ it
brings the audience appeal to a higher level. As if it
was a rubbish game they wouldn’t of released another

This retro game is called Pac-Man. It was published in
1980 by Namco. Pacman has always been a favourite for
most of the population. This 80’s game has many different
ghost look a likes. Each colour ghost was programmed to
behave differently, one colour will run away, and one
would chase you. This is a very clever way of
programming a game as it gets very stressful when
something is following you all the time. The colour
scheme for Pac Man is mainly black, yellow, red, orange,
pink and blue. This means that the colours stand out a lot
against the black and blue background. The font is very
bold and bright. This makes it stand out more! The font is
very unique which means when the audience sees font like
this they automatically think of the game which makes
them want to play it. The maze background is very
symbolic as many people will remember the design of it.
The soundtrack to Pacman is a very annoying sound. Its
very high pitched but it goes to the beat of the game.
When this game was first released it was the Bee’s Knees.
Everyone had heard of the game and everyone thrived to
play it! This is why I would like to do a game similar to
that as maybe the older generation would play it and

7. Research Analysis
What common features do the researched products
have?
The common features of my existing products is the lighting. The vast
majority of these products have high key lighting. They have all got in
common the competitive side of the games. Only one of the games have
a multiplayer aspect where as the rest have only single player. This
would be rather drastic if I did not include a multiplayer aspect as most
of the 21st generation prefer a multiplayer aspect.
What aspects of the research will you include within
your own work?
Within researching these specific examples I have come to the
conclusion that which ever game I choose, I will add the specific colour
themes which my product will look like that. I will keep in mind the
soundtrack which each of the games have chosen.
